80-Year-Old Man Gives Assailant Fight Last Edited: Friday, 06 Jul 2007, 5:23 PM CDT A Dyersburg man is making a solid recovery from injuries he received during an assault at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis on Tuesday. 80-year-old George Younger, a WWII veteran lost his wallet, but probably saved his own life in warding off his attacker. When he was a 15-year-old teen in Memphis, George Younger more than toyed with the idea of taking up a career in boxing. Only a broken wrist kept him from competing in the golden gloves competition. But, while Younger didn't score a knock-out in his latest unexpected scuffle, he still came out a big winner because he stayed alive. 80-year old George ...

Bruce Leichty, the American lawyer for Ernst Zundel (the jailed homicidal gas chamber skeptic serving five years in a German prison) hosted a two day "Good Information Advocates" conference in San Jose, California last week. It was timed to coincide with the Mennonite Church's national convention, also in San Jose (Leichty is a Mennonite). Thousands of Mennonites were leafletted with invitations to attend. A handful did. The rest of the audience was primarily comprised of this writer's readers and supporters. Day 1, July 4, featured a survivor of the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York, as well as Dr. Paul Rea (pronounced "Ray"), Professor of Philosophy ...

It’s What Bush Craves!

We observe the modern American political theme – global democracy, global freedom, global security, global planning – from afar, as if on a big screen, framed and shaped for our consumption, neat. Americans watch and wonder. George W. Bush speechwriters, neoconservatives and the odd state-worshipping evangelical – or do I repeat myself – nod encouragingly in our direction, in Paris Hilton-style and say, "Do you love it?" Sadly, overwhelmingly, we do not. The recent image of Paris Hilton curled, shaking and incoherent in a fetal position on the floor of an LA County jail may be more reality-based. Greed, incompetence, immorality and outsized egos leading ...

Meaningless High School

When I was in high school my life consisted mainly of four things: high school, family, partying, and science-fiction. The first two were close to meaningless, and the last two meant a lot. In fact, they were pretty much the focus of my high school life. It took me years to figure out what the answer was to that puzzle of why the first two meant so little and the last two so much. I didn't have a bad family life. It was just that, like a lot of kids then and now, family just didn't mean that much (I'm sure I would have realized just how much it meant if I didn't have it). Finally, I realized the answer was pretty simple: it had to do with meaning. The first two had little ...

Cheney impeachment bill gains yet another co-sponsor07/10/2007 @ 5:42 pm Filed by Nick Juliano On Tuesday, a northern Virginia Democrat decided to add his support to a growing movement in the House of Representatives to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. A spokesman for Rep. Jim Moran told RAW STORY that the congressman had decided to co-sponsor the impeachment bill introduced in April by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio. When he announced the bill, Kucinich, who is currently seeking the Democratic nomination for president, said that he wouldn't push his fellow lawmakers to sign on. But the bill has gradually gained support since then, garnering at least 10 co-sponsors, including ...

OUR DANGER AND OUR DUTY

OUR DANGER AND OUR DUTY; BY REV. J. H. THORNWELL, D. D. COLUMBIA, S. C.: SOUTHERN GUARDIAN STEAM-POWER PRESS. 1862. OUR DANGER AND OUR DUTY. The ravages of Louis XIV. in the beautiful valleys of the Rhine, about the close of the seventeenth century, may be taken as a specimen of the appalling desolation which is likely to overspread Confederate States, if the Northern army should succeed in its schemes of subjugation and of plunder. Europe was then outraged by atrocities inflicted by Christians upon Christians, more fierce and cruel than even Mahometans could have had the heart to perpetrate. Private dwellings were razed to the ground, fields laid waste, cities burnt, churches demolished, ...

Growing trend to delegitimize Israel worries Jewish leaders

The trend toward delegitimizing Israel's existence as a Jewish state is growing not only in Europe, but also in the United States, according to Jewish-American academics and community leaders. Anti-Israel attacks are even beginning to affect Jewish supporters of Israel, who have been accused of trying to silence public debate, they said. Advertisement This trend toward delegitimization will be one of the topics discussed at a conference on the future of the Jewish people that opens in Jerusalem this morning. The conference, which will be attended by researchers, heads of Jewish organizations and senior Israeli politicians, was organized by the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute. ...

Troops storm Pakistan mosque; 60 killed By ZARAR KHAN, Associated Press Writer 44 minutes ago Pakistani troops were flushing out holdouts entrenched inside a women's religious school, taking control of the sprawling Red Mosque room by room in fighting that left about 50 militants and eight soldiers dead, the army said. Commandos stormed the sprawling mosque compound before dawn. Twelve hours later, the army said the complex was 80 percent cleared of militants but it was still trying to root out well-armed defenders the government accuses of holding a number of hostages. A local relief agency said the army asked for 400 white funeral shrouds. The extremists had been using the ...

Kucinich: 'Imperial' vice president needs to be impeached

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, continued to stress his case for impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney, saying his role in pushing the false case for war is akin to a high crime against the constitution. Advertisement "To me it's about the constitution, it's not about the personality," Kucinich said Monday morning on Joe Scarborough's MSNBC show. "And the constitution requires the highest office holders to have the highest standards and obedience to the law, and I think serious questions have been raised, which is why I introduced the resolution." Kucinich predicted more members of Congress would join his impeachment push after a poll showed last week that a majority of ...

Defense and Other Lies

When you lie too much, you may end by forgetting how to tell the truth. I just read that China’s defense spending has increased alarmingly. So what’s the problem, you may ask. If they’re only defending themselves, why should we worry? But you know the answer: nowadays defense really means war. After World War II the United States Government renamed its Department of War the Department of Defense, and military spending became defense spending, and we kept defending ourselves around the world in war after war, until we had military bases in a hundred countries, plus enough nuclear weapons to kill the entire world’s population several times over. Defense. Then in late 200 ...

Every time Bush stands up to speak about the war, how we have to stick it out, how we have to stand up against evil, how our nation is being called to do its historic duty, I have the same thought: and what are you doing besides making this stupid speech? Presidents speak as if they somehow embody the will of the nation, and so the courage shown by the troops is their courage, the determination of the commanders on the ground is their determination too, and the strong will of the people to fork over to fund this ghastly war is their strong will too. They might even believe it. But this has nothing to do with reality. The people who are ordering this war to be fought are not actually doing ...

Enough of seeing the Constitution trashed? Enough of the corruption? Enough of the war? Enough of the gutless response of our elected Democratic representatives? I don't think our reps read our e-mail or listen to our phone calls. Hell, they didn't even listen to the 2006 election in which we told them to stop the war. Scooter Libby is the last straw and I'm not going to take it anymore. I've had enough. Cenk Uygur and I were talking this morning about what to do. We've decided it's time to tell America we've had enough. We'll be standing outside the Federal Building in West L.A. at the corner of Veteran and Wilshire for one hour this Sunday. If you'd ...

ARE THE POLICE AFRAID TO PATROL on JULY 4?

In my state of Delaware fireworks that go BOOM are against the law. The only legal ones are sparklers and such, and the people who wish to see fireworks are encouraged to go where professional fireworks displays are scheduled events for the holidays. Needless to say, on the night before the 4th and for the next couple of nights there are many detonations and gun shots heard all around, and on these lawless nights the cops never cruise through the neighborhoods. I think I know why. IF someone wished to take a shot at a cop car that would be the time to do it. Not only would it be impossible to locate the shooter because of the holiday noise but even nosy neighbors who would call the cops ...

Picky Japanese princesses pass on putrid peckers

Picky Japanese princesses pass on putrid peckers Unmarried Japanese women are most unlikely to compromise and tie the knot with a guy if he has a smelly penis, according to Spa! (7/10). Of 100 women in their mid-20s to mid-30s that the men's weekly surveyed, 96 said they could look askance at some unsavory aspects of a man, but not if his amorousness stands out more for its odor. Unwillingness to compromise in the search for a perfect partner is often cited as the main reason why so many Japanese are choosing either to never marry or putting off wedlock until the latest possible moment. The men's weekly tried to find out exactly where young Japanese are willing to conciliate when ...

“Behavior-Detection” Graduates from Airports to Bus and Train Stations Thursday July 05th 2007, 5:31 am In celebration of Independence Day commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, the feds have increased the visibility of armed goons at train stations and bus terminals across the country. “Officials from the Transportation Security Administration, formed after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, said the additional security is not a response to any specific threat to any of the regions,” reports the Examiner. In other words, there are no terrorists and you are not in danger. Since the Constitution is nothing more than a “goddamned ...

Librarians Describe Life Under An FBI Gag Order By Luke O'Brien June 24, 2007 | 2:22:57 PM Categories: Privacy, Spooks Gone Wild, Sunshine and Secrecy, Surveillance, The Courts Life in an FBI muzzle is no fun. Two Connecticut librarians on Sunday described what it was like to be slapped with an FBI national security letter and accompanying gag order. It sounded like a spy movie or, gulp, something that happens under a repressive foreign government. Peter Chase and Barbara Bailey, librarians in Plainville, Connecticut, received an NSL to turn over computer records in their library on July 13, 2005. Unlike a suspected thousands of other people around the country, Chase, Bailey and two ...

Some Activists Fed Up With Iraq War Refuse to Pay Taxes, Interest Is Growing NEW HAVEN, Conn. When the United States invaded Iraq more than four years ago, war opponent David Gross asked his bosses for a radical pay cut, enough so he wouldn't have to pay taxes to support the war. "I was having a hard time looking at myself in the mirror," Gross said. "I knew the bombs falling were in part paid with my tax dollars. I had to actually do something concrete to remove my complicity." The San Francisco technical writer was making close to $100,000 a year. He didn't know exactly how big of a pay cut he would need to fall below the federal tax threshold, but later ...

The Case for Independence

On July 4th libertarians celebrate the rejection of empire. Politicians more likely see it as the US government’s birthday. If they’re right, we should think it a tragic commemoration indeed. No, I see the Fourth as an independence celebration to which our government has no rightful claim. Seventeen seventy-six was, after all, five years before they ratified the Articles of Confederation and a full eleven years before the Constitution was completed. As our national mythos goes, it was on this day that America declared its separation from the British state. This is a day to remember liberation, disunion, the idea that a house divided might be more civil, peaceful and secure than ...

“I didn’t vote for him,” an American once said, “But he’s my president, and I hope he does a good job.” That—on this eve of the 4th of July—is the essence of this democracy, in 17 words. And that is what President Bush threw away yesterday in commuting the sentence of Lewis “Scooter” Libby. The man who said those 17 words—improbably enough—was the actor John Wayne. And Wayne, an ultra-conservative, said them, when he learned of the hair’s-breadth election of John F. Kennedy instead of his personal favorite, Richard Nixon in 1960. “I didn’t vote for him but he’s my president, and I hope he does a good ...

Man Acquitted for Loud Park Singing PHILADELPHIA - A man was acquitted Tuesday after being arrested for refusing to heed a police officer's command he stop singing in a public park. A judge found Anthony Riley not guilty of disorderly conduct, saying "This is America, not Afghanistan." Riley, 20, had faced a three month sentence after loudly singing "A Change is Gonna Come" in Rittenhouse Square in downtown Philadelphia in March. Greg Wilkinson, the arresting officer, testified Riley was singing so loud his voice drowned out his police radio. "All he had to do was lower his voice and this never would have happened," prosecutor William James said. ...

With Iraq Play, Students Act on Beliefs Their war drama was halted before it could premiere. Old enough to fight in it, they were being silenced. It didn't seem fair. by Erika Hayasaki WILTON, Conn. - She could not look at her principal. The words coming out of his mouth infuriated her. There would be no play about the war in Iraq, he told the drama class at Wilton High School: The topic was too controversial, too complicated. Sitting in the front row of the campus theater on a March morning, Erin Clancy squeezed another drama student’s hand and tried to hold back tears. They had been preparing for the production of “Voices in Conflict” for two months. One student ...

Most Important Videos I've Ever Seen - These Explain Everything! I thought I had seen it all, read it all, heard it all. That was until I saw the following two videos. Taken from a May 5, 2007 speech called "The Knowledge Exchange" filmed in New Westminster, B.C., Canada by Alfred L Webre, J.D., M.Ed., the videos explain the reasons for US wars since the first World War. The films also expose the history and rationale of many of the war crimes against humanity that are led by those in positions in power in the US with the assistance of international war crimes racketeers. Such war crimes include the False Flag Operation of 9/11, Depleted Uranium, and numerous other grievous ...
