Jon Stewart's faux report on Fox GOP debate Post Date: 2007-05-17 10:57:48 by robin

Jon Stewart does a Daily Show take on Fox News' recent Republican debate. In a clip from the start of the debate, Fox's Brit Hume intones, "This event is being sponsored by Fox News and the South Carolina Republican Party." Quips Stewart, "Isn't that redundant?" Correspondent Jason Jones tells Stewart "you must've stepped out for one heckuva pee" to miss a "career-ending blooper" by Mitt Romney, who said (in a series of clips pieced together out of context), "I support a global jihadist effort to bring down the West, and it's critical to have marriage as a relationship between one man and al-Qaeda."

Fox News Claim Ron Paul's Online Voters Skewed Text-Message Only Poll! Limbaugh, Neo-Cons pretend Ron Paul doesn't exist to prevent their delusional soap bubble from being popped Paul Joseph Watson Prison Planet Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Fox News had an explanation for why Ron Paul did so well in their poll even after the deliberate smear job that constituted their presidential debate - online activists were skewing the numbers. There's only one problem with that claim - the poll was by text message only and no online votes were taken! Watch the video. It seems that the Neo-Cons who are hell-bent on destroying anyone other than their Neo-Lib icon Hillary Clinton, for whom ...
25 years later, Mumia Abu-Jamal's case to be argued in appeals court Post Date: 2007-05-16 21:40:36 by Ferret Mike

PHILADELPHIA: When police officers arrived as backup during a traffic stop in 1981, they found black activist Mumia Abu-Jamal sitting on a curb with a bullet in his chest and a gun by his side. Officer Daniel Faulkner lay dying from bullets fired from Abu-Jamal's gun. The facts seem brutally clear to prosecutors, but Abu-Jamal's writings from death row have sparked a boisterous, global "Free Mumia" movement that has attracted celebrities and endured for a quarter century. On Thursday, the movement's claims that he is the victim of a racist U.S. justice system reach the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after decades of litigation. Abu-Jamal's death sentence was ...

Former Sen. Mike Gravel, the longshot presidential candidate who has generated buzz in the liberal blogosphere following a dramatic and heated performance during the first Democratic presidential debate, reaffirmed his belief that President Bush should be jailed for going to war in Iraq and that all drugs should be legalized during an interview with the Iowa Independent blog.Advertisement Responding to why he seemed to display anger at the debate, Gravel asserted it was the growing casualty list in Iraq that fueled his passion. "How would you feel if you were over there (Iraq) getting shot at, getting crippled, because your leaders didnt exercise proper judgment?" said ...
19,000 Iraqis Disappear Into U.S.-Run Prisons Post Date: 2007-05-16 05:47:10 by Ada

Last summer, the Associated Press and New York Times each did stories on the detention facilities operated by the United States inside of Iraq. The conclusions of each investigation were roughly the same. At the time, they noted roughly 14,000 Iraqis were being held in a legal vacuum. The detention facilities were chaotic, a large portion of the persons held were taken in on sweeps through their neighborhoods and were suspected and charged with nothing. No trials occur, but the detainees languish often for many months in some cases for more than a year. They may not be enemies when they enter these prisons, one Army officer told me, but you can count on ...

When I picked up my mail yesterday, there was a small box from the U.S. Army addressed to me. Now I retired over 20 years ago, so of course I was interested to see what they would be sending me. When I opened the box, I found a "Go Army" decal, a lapel pin "U. S. Army Retired", and a DVD. Well I could hardly wait to play the DVD! Did you ever see the "Parallax View" with Warren Beatty? There is a scene where they are screening him to see if he has the right goods to be a political assasin...he's sitting in a chair, watching images on a screen, power images, love images, patriotic images, some sick images. This DVD MUST have been produced by the same ...

Stang: The Lesson of Appomattox - Learn it or Die! By Alan Stang Recently, I walked across the battlefield at Manassas, where the Yankees expected to win. They came out from Washington, some 25 miles, with picnic baskets and their women, expecting a days entertainment. They would defeat the troublesome, uppity, amateurish rednecks and go home, the preposterous idea of secession dismissed. It was July 21st, 1861. It didnt work out that way, but it could have. The Confederate forces were seriously outnumbered. General Bernard Bees Alabama forces were retreating. They stopped when Bee, who died there, shouted, Form, form, follow the Virginians. Look. There stands ...

Two police officers practice intimidation tactics at counter-recruitment vigil This evening, a handful of protesters had taken their usual stations in front of the recruiting center (1317 NE Broadway), holding signs saying things such as, "Don't Die for Lies," "Killing is Wrong," and "War is Not the Answer." Most stood in a no parking spot. An unmarked police car parked across the street, an officer emerged and began observing and taking photos of the protesters. Soon, a squad car pulled up and two police rushed up and told everyone to get out of the street [parking lane] or they would be arrested. A fairly burly cop earned extra credit in his ...

The gunsmoke at Virginia Tech had barely cleared when the reliable thunder about gun control began pealing from the New York Times editorial page and other cumuli in the leftist stratosphere. Down on terra firma, a few intrepid observers, citing the students who used their own weapons to stop a gunman at Appalachian Law School in West Virginia in 2002, unlimbered the obvious opposite point: Had someone at Tech been packing heat, he might have cut down the lead-slinging Korean lunatic before he killed nearly three dozen people. The points truth is self-evident. But it also skirts over an underlying pathology: the liberal fear of and disdain for Americans using guns or even their ...

Where have all the viewers gone? NEW YORK (AP) -- Maybe they're outside in the garden. They could be playing softball. Or perhaps they're just plain bored. In TV's worst spring in recent memory, a startling number of Americans drifted away from television the past two months: More than 2.5 million fewer people were watching ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox than at the same time last year, statistics show. Everyone has a theory to explain the plummeting ratings: early Daylight Savings Time, more reruns, bad shows, more shows being recorded or downloaded or streamed. (Blog: What -- and when -- are you watching?) Scariest of all for the networks, however, is the idea that many people are ...
The War on Free Expression Post Date: 2007-05-09 14:08:59 by Stephen Lendman

The War on Free Expression - by Stephen Lendman In a post-9/11 climate, the right of free expression is under attack and endangered in the age of George Bush when dissent may be called a threat to national security, terrorism, or treason. But losing that most precious of all rights means losing our freedom that 18th century French philosopher Voltaire spoke in defense of saying "I may disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Using it to express dissent is what noted historian Howard Zinn calls "the highest form of patriotism" exercising our constitutional right to freedom of speech, the press, to assemble, to protest publicly, ...

State rebuffs plate complaint Rapid City woman allowed to keep license tags reading 'MPEACHW' By Staff Reports The South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation's Division of Motor Vehicles decided Monday against recalling a Rapid City woman's license plate that encourages the impeachment of President Bush. It boiled down to the law. "After reviewing case law on this issue, we have determined that the plate will not be recalled," department head Paul Kinsman said. The personalized license plate, which reads MPEACHW, was issued to Heather Morijah of Rapid City. She has the plates mounted on her silver 2005 Prius. An unnamed critic of the plates complained ...

I truly value the mail that I receive from the old timers of law enforcement; they are a unique group of individuals. I used to love the profession and the people in it. When I entered into the profession 48 years ago it was a long suffering and put upon fraternity. The pay was rotten, the benefits nil, and appreciation seemed to be non-existent. Yet the people who filled the ranks were more dedicated and professional at that time than any other group of people in this nation. Unfortunately I was a witness to a steady and progressive decline in the profession during the years that I was active in the law enforcement community. Ironically as the pay, benefits and other perks increased the ...

Boy: Do not try to bend the spoon; that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth. Neo: What truth? Boy: There is no spoon. Neo: There is no spoon? Boy: Then you will see, it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself. ~ The Matrix (1999) Mr. Bush has vetoed the latest war-spending bill from Congress because it set a date to begin troop withdrawals, despite the fact that the withdrawal date was non-binding and the bill did not require the withdrawal of the hired mercenaries fighting the war. Congress may now attempt to create an even looser version that will leave Mr. Bush with even more maneuvering room to continue his war. Many of us wonder what we might do to end ...

She had raised her daughter for six years following the divorce, handled the shuttling to soccer practice and cheerleading, made sure schoolwork was done. Hardly a day went by when the two weren't together. Then Lt. Eva Crouch was mobilized with the Kentucky National Guard, and Sara went to stay with Dad. A year and a half later, her assignment up, Crouch pulled into her driveway with one thing in mind bringing home the little girl who shared her smile and blue eyes. She dialed her ex and said she'd be there the next day to pick Sara up, but his response sent her reeling. "Not without a court order you won't." Within a month, a judge would decide that Sara ...
