LessonsinWrestling and Physical CulturebyFarmer Burns School of Wrestling Book I This course of lessons is PRACTICAL. It is simply written. The language is plain. The whole object kept in view when preparing the lessons was to make it possible for the student to get RESULTS. There are many methods of physical culture. Several course have been prepared and offered to the public. As a rule the instructions in these courses are very good, and will develop certain parts of the body satisfactorily. But most of them are too technical. In this course we studiously avoid all attempt to teach physiology and anatomy. We omit all scientific terms, words, and phrases. We want RESULTS. We want the ...
Anybody Watching the Show "Jericho"? (Spoiler Alert - Big Reveal Inside) Post Date: 2007-04-12 23:21:02 by Arator

OK, in this week's episode was the big reveal about who was behind the "terrorist" nuking of the US. It turns out that the nukes were "stolen" while being moved by the Department of Energy to the federal holding facility at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. (Hmmm, the nukes were in federal custody when they were "stolen"...clue #1.) The terrorist organization was chocked full of black-ops feds from different agencies monitoring each other (unaware that they were spying on spies from other fed agencies). The CIA's undercover guy was fingered by the FBI's undercover guy, who in turn was shot by the CIA's undercover guy to climb up the ladder and ingratiate ...

The Surge Is Working! by Tom Chartier by Tom Chartier DIGG THIS "The American people are not getting the full picture of what's happening here." The Noble Senator Ignoramus from Arizona (John McCain) didnt wait for April Fools Day to wax eloquent. "There are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today." But, actions speak louder than words: McCain may have tripped the light fantastic through a Baghdad market but CBS reports that "according to someone who was actually with the delegation, that sense of security required a massive military operation: dozens of U.S soldiers, snipers, and helicopters hovering ...

Signs and Wonders by Karen Kwiatkowski by Karen Kwiatkowski DIGG THIS When the muffler fell off my 15-year-old Subaru Justy a few weeks ago, I started driving the good car to work. It has a radio. Oh, the wonderful things I am learning from Sean Hannity! For one thing, the Iraq occupation is a success. Not a blazing success, but a damn fine thing. According to Sean, we are made noble by the experience, and the Iraqis have already become passionate democrats. Just look at the demonstrations they held on the four-year anniversary of our takeover of the capital! "They couldnt have protested like that under Saddam!" he crows. Had they done so, it is likely Saddam would ...

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Army, thwarted in two previous bids to dispose of chemical waste from the destruction of Indiana's deadly VX nerve agent stockpile, has contracted with a French company to incinerate the waste at a Texas plant, but environmentalists said they will fight that effort as well. Army spokesman Greg Mahall said Wednesday that Veolia Environmental Services had signed a $49 million contract to truck about 2 million gallons of the caustic wastewater, called VX hydrolysate, about 1,000 miles from western Indiana's Newport Chemical Depot to Port Arthur for incineration. The deal, finalized Monday, comes three months after DuPont Co. dropped out of a plan to treat the ...

Feeding the American Dream Into That Grinder by Tom Chartier by Tom Chartier DIGG THIS In December of 2003, as Bushs invasion of Iraq plunged into its eighth disastrous month, the punk band in which I played lead guitar went on a last-gasp tour. I was leaving The Rotters maybe forever and departing the U.S.
probably for the rest of my life. Fact is, it was a sad time. The Rotters had a Saturday night gig in San Diego. Rather than sleep on someones floor, we splurged on motel rooms in nearby Oceanside. Oceanside is known for being the nearest community to Camp Pendleton, the west coast training base for the Marines. Concerned that we should have a peaceful nights ...

We want the Taliban back, say ordinary Afghans Post Date: 2007-04-08 06:16:21 by Ada

At least we felt safe under the extremists, say Kandahar residents too afraid to go out after dark Faiz Mohammed Karigar, a father of two, fled Kandahar when the Taliban held power in Afghanistan because he was against their restrictions on education. Now he wants the fundamentalists back. "When the Taliban were here, I escaped to the border with Iran, but I was never worried about my family," he said. "Every single minute of the last three years I have been very worried. Maybe tonight the Americans will come to my house, molest my wife and children and arrest me." Last week, President Hamid Karzai acknowledged for the first time that he had held talks with the ...
Pat Tillman: Killed by Friendly Fire or Executed by His Own Government? Post Date: 2007-04-07 09:42:41 by Ada

The Bush Administration knew at the top that celebrity soldier Pat Tillman had been killed by persons in, or attached to his own unit, yet it purposely chose to muffle the incident for more than two years; lying to the family while lionizing the victim as a war hero. Circumstantial evidence, primarily illogical actions at very high levels of the administration, suggests more than a cover up of a friendly fire accident (a common mistake during war.) Had Tillman been accidentally shot by one of his own unit the whole matter could have been put to rest by holding a few harsh court marshals of those immediately involved, and issuing profuse apologies to everyone. But, ...

Confirmed: The U.S. Census Bureau Gave Up Names of Japanese-Americans in WW II Government documents show that the agency handed over names and addresses to the Secret Service By JR Minkel REVELATIONS: Records show that in 1943 the Census Bureau revealed names and addresses of Japanese-Americans in the Washington, D.C., area. Prior research had found that the Bureau provided the government with less specific information about Japanese-Americans in California and other states to round them up (above) for imprisonment in internment camps. Despite decades of denials, government records confirm that the U.S. Census Bureau provided the U.S. Secret Service with names and addresses of ...

A year ago, Donald Vance learned what its like to be falsely accused by the U.S. military of aiding terrorists. He was held without charge for more than three months in a high-security prison in Iraq, and interrogated daily after sleepless nights without legal counsel or even a phone call to his family. On Wednesday, the former private security contractor was honored for his ordeal in Washington and for speaking out against the incident. At a luncheon at the National Press Club, Vance received the Ridenhour Prize for Truth-Telling, an award named in memory of Army helicopter gunner Ron Ridenhour who struggled to bring the horrific mass murders at My Lai to the attention of Congress and the ...

Here's my petition comments: A little background: I'm a rural Midwesterner from Red State land and was a registered Republican all my life until 9-11 (the evidence shows that it was indeed an inside job). The GOP's malignant transformation into on overtly fascist, police-state-promoting, torture-advocating, Bill-of-Rights-gutting party of Machiavellian Empire-lusters (and their thoroughly psy-opsed "conservative" dupes) meant that I could no longer associate myself with it (or them). Just a few years ago (pre-911), I would have considered Rosie O'Donnell as a kind of cultural and political alien. But as the neo-cons liked to say, 9-11 changed everything, just not ...

Why Should American Blood and Taxes Be Spent on Propping Up a Sectarian Shia State Engaged in Ethnic Cleansing and Daily Human Rights Abuses? A Time For Congressional Hearings The time has come to understand the new de facto US policy in Iraq: to support, fund, arm and train a sectarian Shia-Kurdish state, one engaged in ethnic cleansing, mass detention and murder of Sunni Arabs. If this description seems harsh, it is only because our minds are crowded with false or outdated paradigms. First was the dream of Baghdad as an exemplary democratic domino. Then the kumbaya notion of a unitary neo-liberal state with proportional representation and revenue-sharing among Shia, ...
Tax Resisters Withhold Payment In Protest Of U.S. Sending Troops To Iraq Post Date: 2007-04-03 12:22:34 by Brian S

Dorothy Hansen used to pay her taxes faithfully every year -- until the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Since then, the 87-year-old Sebastopol resident has stopped filing her income tax returns to show her disapproval of the war. "I am very sure that I don't want to have any part in killing people and I certainly don't want a part in any wars that do just that," Hansen said. With the tax-filing deadline just two weeks away, some Bay Area residents are using it as an opportunity to protest the war by withholding their tax dollars to fund it. Known as war tax resisters, they consider it an act of civil disobedience. Some withhold only a symbolic portion of what they ...

I first met Sam Francis at a meeting of the John Randolph club in Chicago. He was sitting at a table with Tom Fleming. Both men are two years older than me. Both gave me the impression that I was a freshman trying to sit at the Junior Lunch Table in the School Cafeteria. The last time I saw Sam Francis, it was at a meeting in Washington. Sam was the moderator at a talk given by Joseph Tyndal, a leader of the National Front in England. Mr. Tyndal was trying to get us enthused about being white guys, and so he launched into a peroration about the glories of Elizabethan England. Since Elizabethan England was the place where Catholic priests, like Edmund Campion, SJ, could be hanged until ...

Review of Richard K. Morgan's "Market Forces." This is a very enjoyable, well-written and action-packed novel that I suspect Morgan wrote with the word "movie" in mind. From what I've read, it looks as if it might be made into one. I just hope justice is done. One of my friends described this novel as "conservative leftist." Sounds like an oxymoron, I know, but it's not. This book is conservative in the sense that it's partly a horror novel: good attacked by bad, order assaulted by evil. Morgan is upholding truth and decency and justice against what he sees as evil. What makes him somewhat leftist is that he locates the evil in unrestrained ...

As we learn more and more details of the extension and knowledge of the cover-up in the Pat Tillman story, an important subtext is not only emerging, but is failing to be commented on by most covering the story. The subtext of how the Bush Cult requires and supports what I like to call Movie News as part of the emotional trigger codes that feed the hysteria and drive the machine of cult-driven worship. Movie News can't be looked at on a case by case basis. They must be seen in their entirety. Think of them as chapters in a book that is still being written. When the real world intrudes, as it so often does, the Bush Cult followers need to be read another chapter of reassurance before ...

Sex In Class? Child Killers? Berserk Kids? No Respect? Orwell Knew 3-31-7 "Nearly all children nowadays were horrible. What was worst of all was that by means of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the discipline of the Party. On the contrary, they adored the Party and everything connected with it. All their ferocity was turned outwards, against the enemies of the State, against foreigners, traitors, saboteurs, thought-criminals. It was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children." -George Orwell's 1984, page 24 ...
Ministers seek deal with Iran for captives Post Date: 2007-03-31 20:22:02 by SmokinOPs

Ministers are preparing a compromise deal to allow Iran to save face and release its 15 British military captives by promising that the Royal Navy will never knowingly enter Iranian waters without permission. The Sunday Telegraph has learnt of plans to send a Royal Navy captain or commodore to Teheran, as a special envoy of the Government, to deliver a public assurance that officials hope will end the diplomatic standoff. The move, which was discussed at a meeting of Whitehall's Cobra crisis committee yesterday, came as Downing Street officials explicitly cautioned against hopes of a speedy outcome and said that families of the hostages should prepare for the "long haul". ...

Opposition to the War Growing Among Troops By Sarah Olson t r u t h o u t | Report Wednesday 28 March 2007 "I joined the Army to go to war, and now I'm fighting to get out," says Pfc. Ryan Follan, laughing nervously. He quickly becomes serious. "Some of the causes are good, but I don't think the war is for the right reasons." Follan laughs again, and there's a long pause. "I'm deploying in a month, actually. I'm not a big fan of it, honestly." Private Follan is standing in a Taco Bell parking lot just outside Fort Stewart in Savannah, Georgia. Each day, soldiers gather for lunch at fast food restaurants like this one. On this particular ...

Texas signs new self-defense by gun law Post Date: 2007-03-29 07:55:48 by Eoghan

Criminals in Texas beware: if you threaten someone in their car or office, the citizens of this state where guns are ubiquitous have the right to shoot you dead. Governor Rick Perry's office said on Tuesday that he had signed a new law that expands Texans' existing right to use deadly force to defend themselves "without retreat" in their homes, cars and workplaces. "The right to defend oneself from an imminent act of harm should not only be clearly defined in Texas law, but is intuitive to human nature," Perry said on his Web site. The new law, which takes affect on September 1, extends an exception to a statute that required a person to retreat in the face of ...

Police gun down dozens over Iraq blasts By SINAN SALAHEDDIN, Associated Press Writer 40 minutes ago Shiite militants and police enraged by massive truck bombings in Tal Afar went on a revenge spree against Sunni residents in the northwestern town Wednesday, killing as many as 60 people, officials said. The gunmen began roaming Sunni neighborhoods in the city, shooting at residents and homes, according to police and a local Sunni politician. Ali al-Talafari, a Sunni member of the local Turkomen Front Party, said the Iraqi army had arrested 18 policemen accused of being involved after they were identified by the Sunni families targeted. But he said the attackers included Shiite ...
