'Iraqi resistance winning, but it will be a long war' Post Date: 2007-03-14 08:43:08 by leveller

New Delhi, March 14: Drawing an analogy with Vietnam, a long-time Iraqi dissident says the armed resistance in his country against the US is winning, but it will take a long time to make the American troops go home. Kamal Majid, a Professor Emeritus in the University of Wales (Cardiff), also said here that Iraqis had every right to invite foreigners to join the fighting against the US troops as Washington too had other governments on its side. "The Iraqi people are optimistic that they will succeed (against the US)," Majid told an "International Conference on War, Imperialism and Resistance" here, drawing thunderous applause at the end of an impassioned speech. ...

I just got done watching the video, Death and Taxes on google. You can watch it here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7020741932984905397= I found that after I read the The Uncensored Gordon Kahl Story on http://www.constitution.org. For anyone that doesn't know who Gordon was, he was a tax resistor who was ambushed by federal marshals back in 1983, and his son was wounded and two marshals killed in the firefight. Gordon escaped, and was eventually tracked down and found in Arkansas and subsequently killed by the FBI. The Uncensored Gordon Kahl Story made reference to Gordon having been dismembered then shot and killed, and had his body burned pretty much beyond recognition. ...

"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials." George Mason, in Debates in Virginia Convention on Ratification of the Constitution, Elliot, Vol. 3, June 16, 1788 On March 9, 2007, a decision came down in the United States Court of Appeals that flashed all across cable networks as breaking news and indeed, it was. My first reaction even though details were limited, was this must be my friend, Dane von Breichenruchardt's case. Dane is president of the Bill of Rights Foundation in Washington, DC, and is part of a group of appellate attorneys that I knew were involved in an important Second Amendment case. As the details emerged ...
Richard Thompson writes anti-war song Post Date: 2007-03-13 14:38:09 by Horse

NEW YORK - Richard Thompson didn't set out to write a searing anti-war song. He was fascinated by the language of the soldiers in Iraq and wanted to put it to music. "I was looking at Web sites of military slang, because I like language and I find language interesting, and I love some of the language that was coming out of the Iraqi war, and I just started to put some of these phrases together," the 57-year-old British guitarist/songwriter told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "Then I figured it was a bit too cryptic for most people to understand, so I modified it a bit and made it more accessible," Thompson said. His song "Dad's Gonna Kill ...

In my article The Pentagons Power to Arrest, Torture, and Execute Americans, I explained that the post9/11 power to designate Americans as enemy combatants in the war on terror has revolutionized Americas legal system by enabling the Pentagon to circumvent the rights and guarantees in the Bill of Rights. In my article The Critical Dilemma Facing Pro-War Libertarians, I explained that 9/11 has confronted pro-war libertarians with what undoubtedly is one of the biggest moral and philosophical quandaries of their lives whether to remain committed to a conservative foreign policy, thereby giving up their commitment to a ...
Democratic senators say Gonzales should go Post Date: 2007-03-11 17:50:13 by robin

U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should resign following disclosures of mass firings of federal prosecutors and a report that the FBI improperly obtained information on private citizens, top Democratic senators said on Sunday. In addition, a key Republican voiced concerns about Gonzales and his embattled Justice Department, but stopped short of calling for his resignation. "I think we need a change in the top at the Justice Department," said Sen. Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record) of New York, a member of the Democratic leadership. Sen. Joseph Biden (news, bio, voting record), a Delaware Democrat and a 2008 White House contender, said, "I think we'd be ...

Ten Ways to Prepare for a Post-Oil Society By James Howard Kunstler, http://Kunstler.com Posted on February 10, 2007, Printed on March 10, 2007 http://www.alternet.org/story/47705/ Editor's Note: James Howard Kunstler is a leading writer on the topic of peak oil the problems it poses for American suburbia. Deeply concerned about the future of our petroleum dependent society, Kunstler believes we must take radical steps to avoid the total meltdown of modern society in the face looming oil and gas shortages. For background on this topic, read Kunstler's essay, "Pricey Gas, That's Reality." Out in the public arena, people frequently twang on me for being "Mister ...
Waxman's 'Speech Control' Bill Subverts Democracy Post Date: 2007-03-09 17:32:44 by Eoghan

Good news from Congress! Onerous Sec. 220 of the Senate's Lobby Reform bill, defeated by the providence of God and the political and religious right in January, has been omitted from Pelosi's new House version. This does not exclude possible Democratic attempts to reattach it in some form during the upcoming conference between the House and Senate. Yet, Sec. 220, with its ambition to impose crushing paperwork requirements on small Christian/conservative activists (on penalty of $100,000 fine) seems defeated -- at least for this session of Congress. New Threat Emerges But how does liberal Jewish activism, epitomized by senators Carl Levin and Joe Lieberman, sponsors of Sec. 220, ...

On the menu: Opposing racial diversity By PETER DUFFY HE ORDERS the fish and chips; I settle for a cup of coffee. The waitress leaves with our order and Jared Taylor leans back, catching his breath. "The media scrum gave you a pretty rough time back there," I remark. He shrugs and smiles. "That was the only time I saw you rattled," I press him. "When that TV reporter asked you whether youd ever had gone out with a person of colour, you were rattled." "I was annoyed," he corrects. "There are certain things I wouldnt talk about, like my eating habits and my bowel habits." Its been a long Tuesday morning for this ...
Heated Iraq War Protest At Crosses In Lafayette Post Date: 2007-03-08 23:45:59 by Brian S

(CBS 5) LAFAYETTE The tension was obvious Thursday morning as anti-war activists gathered among over 3,000 crosses on a hill near the Lafayette BART station. It was a rally and counter rally in front of the crosses, with people on both sides of the war in Iraq. On the street, a grassroots group called "Move America Forward," an organization which says the crosses make a political statement at the expense of dead servicemen and women. "It is not appropriate to put our son's name up there without our permission or even with our permission as far as I'm concerned," said one protestor. Mark Barnes of Move America Forward said the crosses are "a mock ...

An Oral History of the Iraq War--By 30 Soldiers Who Were There "I found myself in a highly civilized world ignoring the Vietnam War . . . . Nobody I knew even talked about Vietnam, making it a very difficult situation to return to." ~ Oliver Stone, movie director and Vietnam veteran Imagine yourself, never having left America before and only recently out of school and, suddenly in a foreign land. Now imagine yourself as a heavily-armed, heavily-armored teenager, sweating under 50 pounds of gear in 110 degree heat, having to tell a beaten, occupied people what to do. Imagine not knowing the local language. Imagine having conquered that country, having the war declared ...

Conservative Democrats Assert Power By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS The Associated Press Wednesday, March 7, 2007; 3:01 PM WASHINGTON -- When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi faced scorn from fellow Democrats during a recent closed-door meeting for not moving more aggressively on Iraq, it was conservative Blue Dogs _ her ideological opposites _ who rose to defend her. The unlikely support reflected an emerging dynamic in the House, where the 43 right-of-center fiscal hawks are increasingly asserting their power, working to moderate the policies and image of a party with a liberal base and leaders to match. The coalition's name is a play on yellow dog Democrats, an epithet that came into being ...
IRS closing argument (by Fred Marshall) Post Date: 2007-03-08 12:38:12 by christine

Closing argument re: IRS (by Fred Marshall) I've been studying the subject of the legality/illegality of income taxes for about 12 years now, and have learned a great deal of good information. It is not possible, in my view, to discredit many of the conclusions to which the evidence presented by Larken Rose, Irwin Schiff, and Tommy Cryer lead. But the evidence is complex and comprehensive and requires a thorough and in-depth examination before the logical conclusion can be reached and, even then, the conclusion is neither indelibly clear nor conspicuous nor self-evident to the "man-on-the-street." If presented to a jury, the evidence would do little more than confuse 99% of ...

Better Think Twice About Paying At The Pump With Your Card Or...Little-known ways the banks rip you off every day Ted Twietmeyer 3-5-7 RIP-OFF #1 Everyone has done it. You stumble out of your car, make a bee-line for the card reader on the pump, swipe your card and the pump and start filling your tank. Why go inside and stand in line? This is far easier and it's all the same, right? I thought so too, until one day I found my bank balance was seriously shorter than it should be and explored the reason why. Paying at the pump is NOT the same as paying inside. When you pay at the pump here's what happens. This fact is straight from a bank officer at my bank. Using your credit/debit ...

Most Allen County homeowners have received their notice of assessment, and some are still experiencing the sticker shock of seeing their homes value rise 25 percent or even more since the last assessment. Here are answers to basic questions about the new assessments and how they will affect property-tax bills: Q. According to the new assessment notice, my homes value went up 30 percent. How could my homes value have gone up so much in a year? A. The increase covers a period of several years. The last assessment was based on home sales in 1999; the most recent assessments are based on sales in 2004-05. Because of the states new trending requirement for property ...

Maynard Brazeal, the retired Director of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center told me privately in 1980, that the moral character of the men and women he was preparing for a career in law enforcement would determine if America remained free or would be under police state conditions. Mr. Brazeal is one of those few exceptionally talented men who knew police work well and also knows that societys thin line between jungle rule and ordered society is but one riot away from catastrophe. Maynard was to become a very close personal friend who was admired by thousands of Kansas Peace Officers, state and federal agency heads, and politicians two numerous to count. His word was his ...

Cherokees eject slave descendants Members of the Cherokee Nation of native Americans have voted to revoke tribal citizenship for descendants of black slaves the Cherokees once owned. A total of 76.6% voted to amend the tribal constitution to limit citizenship to "blood" tribe members. Supporters said only the Cherokees had the right to determine tribal members. Opponents said the amendment was racist and aimed at preventing those with African-American heritage from gaining tribal revenue and government funding. The Cherokee Nation has 250,000 to 270,000 members, second only to the Navajo. 'Right to vote' The list of descendants stems from the Dawes Commission, ...

When those at the front arrived at the Capitol, there were still crowds of protesters turning the corner at First Street onto Congress Avenue (roughly 10 blocks down). CHILDREN aged 11 to 16 are to have their fingerprints taken and stored on a secret database, internal Whitehall documents reveal. The leaked Home Office plans show that the mass fingerprinting will start in 2010, with a batch of 295,000 youngsters who apply for passports. The Home Office expects 545,000 children aged 11 and over to have their prints taken in 2011, with the figure settling at an annual 495,000 from 2014. Their fingerprints will be held on a database also used by the Immigration and Nationality Directorate to store the fingerprints of hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers.-Snip

Weekend Edition March 3 / 4, 2007 The Legacy of Caracazo; The Fourth World War Started in Venezuela By GEORGE CICCARIELLO-MAHER Caracas. Those seeking the origins of the global rebellion against neoliberalism will need to look further back than Seattle 1998 (U.S.-centric activists are notorious for claiming that the movement began in Seattle), and before London's J18 protests earlier the same year. We would need to look before even the public emergence of the Zapatista movement on January 1st 1994. Before all these events, there was the Caracazo. On this, the 18th anniversary of this epic struggle, it is worth looking back at this singularly important but oft-overlooked event which ...
