Nearly 70 percent of respondents to a survey conducted by a leading Christian publication believe in disinvestment from companies whose products are used by the Israeli government in the territories. The poll of more than 2,800 people, conducted on The Tablet website, pointed to the widespread existence of anti-Israel sentiment among respondents and a suspicion of the Jewish State's actions. Despite a reduction in terror attacks since the creation of the security fence, nearly 80 per cent felt the security fence was not needed to protect the population of Israel from suicide bombers and nearly as many advocated that Churches campaign for its dismantling. Three quarters of people who ...

Description: In the 1960’s an anti-war movement emerged that altered the course of history. This movement didn’t take place on college campuses, but in barracks and on aircraft carriers. It flourished in army stockades, navy brigs and in the dingy towns that surround military bases. It penetrated elite military colleges like West Point. And it spread throughout the battlefields of Vietnam. It was a movement no one expected, least of all those in it. Hundreds went to prison and thousands into exile. And by 1971 it had, in the words of one colonel, infested the entire armed services. Yet today few people know about the GI movement against the war in ...

When I was a teenager we didn't have CDs, just vinyl albums. They had lots better covers than CDs, that's for sure. But I already digress. Once I left my favorite album lying in the sunlight streaming in through my bedroom window. When I picked it up the vinyl had softened, so it warped and burned my fingers. Alas, Love it to Death was no more. The human race reminds me of that album. We started out good -- well, pretty good -- then got warped so that we burn everything we touch. Theologians claim evil is nothing but "bent" good. It makes sense. Look at Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, seduced and corrupted by power. Or Satan, who was the most favored of God, until he ...

Whose side are the Democrats on? Post Date: 2006-12-29 14:44:10 by Fibr Dog

Democrats led the fight to fix the most egregious parts of the misnamed Patriot Act. However, they, along with the conservative Republicans, caved into George Bush and his statist minions and passed Patriot Act II with none of the fixes and some provisions that are even more outrageous than were in the original law. Now that the Democrats are in charge of both houses of Congress, the question is will they go back and repeal the worst parts of these very bad laws, or were they just posturing? Were they serious about protecting liberty or just opposed to a Republican president pushing through a favorite piece of legislation? Sen. Russ Feingold and Sen. Harry Reid were very outspoken about ...

One of these, now making the rounds inside the Beltway, is a real shocker. I will capsulate it for you. Also, Brian Harring has taken excerpts from this and acquired far more information and his detailed study follows this. It has long been known in intelligence and ...

Gore Vidal was in Cuba for five days, following a frantic and packed program that took him from the University of Computer Sciences, the Latin American School of Medicine, the University of Havana's main campus, to the National Ballet School, from Old Havana to the park in honor of John Lennon where a bronze replica of the lead Beatle is found, seated as if he were a nearby neighbor. For the brief span of an hour, Gore Vidal agreed to chat with us for this interview. He is the most erudite American writer of his generation and the most corrosive critic of the present Republican administration. But Vidal does not simply speak to us. He interprets what he says. After Mr Blair had received his orders from his "Boss" in Washington, it was announced that he would go almost immediately to the Near and Middle East to try to restart the "Peace Process". Akhtar Mohammad Osmani and two other guerrillas were killed in an air strike on their car on an isolated desert road on Tuesday, spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition force, Colonel Tom Collins, said in Kabul. "Mullah Osmani is the highest ranking Taliban leader that we've ever killed," he said. "His death is very significant and will hit the Taliban's operations." The Taliban said Osmani, once anointed by the group's leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, as his ...

Controversial historian David Irving has come under attack for comments he made after being released from prison in Austria, including a reference to a "n***** brown" Rolls-Royce. Mr Irving made the remarks at a press conference on his return to the UK, after serving a third of a three-year jail sentence for Holocaust denial. The writer also endorsed drunken comments by Hollywood actor Mel Gibson to the effect that Jews had been behind all modern wars. Labour peer Lord Foulkes, a member of the Policy Council of Labour Friends of Israel, said the police should keep a close watch on Mr Irving's comments to see whether they breached anti-racism laws. He said: "Mr Irving ...

Why We Are Not Acting To Save The World [or X] Post Date: 2006-12-22 01:26:09 by Tauzero

Why We Are Not Acting to Save the World Most thoughtful people agree that the world is in serious trouble. A nuclear war could mean a nuclear winter that would destroy all living things; fossil fuels will not last forever, and many other critical resources are nearing exhaustion; the earth grows steadily less habitable; and all this is exacerbated by a burgeoning population that resists control. The timetable may not be clear, but the threat is real. That many people have begun to find a recital of these dangers tiresome is perhaps an even greater threat. Why is more not being done? Within a single generation, we have made extraordinary progress in the exploration of space, genetic ...
