Whitman wins Sacramento River Cats bobblehead race

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Republican Meg Whitman can now claim another endorsement—fans of a Sacramento minor-league baseball team. The Sacramento River Cats on Friday held their own kind of gubernatorial election—a bobblehead contest. The team gave away 2,500 bobbleheads in the likeness of Whitman and Democratic candidate Jerry Brown. Team spokeswoman Rebecca Brutlag says the Whitman bobbleheads were snatched up first, making her the winner. The team did not count how many fewer Brown bobbleheads had been distributed when Whitman won. In 2008, President Barack Obama won a River Cats bobblehead contest against his GOP opponent Sen. John McCain. Brutlag says the contests are ...

US Military Surge in Costa Rica May Fan Regional Tensions
Post Date: 2010-07-21 14:13:21 by Rotara

In a controversial decision that is likely to fan the flames of regional tensions in Latin America, Costa Rica recently granted the US permission to move 7,000 troops and 46 warships (along with their accompanying planes and helicopters) into Costa Rican waters. Officially, the act is considered to be part of the “Drug War,” which appears to be increasingly more war-like in nature due to such actions and mounting violence in Mexico and Colombia. Costa Rica’s neighbors, however, see the massive military presence as a potential base for regional strikes. Due to the long history of US intervention in Latin America (perhaps most notably in neighboring Nicaragua), the region is ...

A Radical Proposal for Airline Security [Vision-Challenged Perplexed Neocon ALERT!!!]

A Radical Proposal for Airline Security Steve Chapman If a job not worth doing is going to be done anyway, better for it to be done well than badly. So the Transportation Security Administration deserves credit for its Secure Flight program, aimed at curbing mistakes on its no-fly list. The American Civil Liberties Union, likewise, warrants praise for suing on behalf of travelers who were wrongly snared. But there is a better option that would eliminate this problem, as well as others: Get rid of the no-fly list entirely. For that matter, get rid of the requirement that passengers provide government-approved identification just to go from one place to another. Americans have a ...

Project HAARP: Possible Cause Why Certain Alaskan Posters & Political Poseurs Continuously Make Idiotic Statements

Project HAARP: Overview The Pentagon's provocative plan to superheat the earth's ionosphere The HAARP phased-array transmitter zaps the earth's ionosphere with high-frequency radio waves. In an Arctic compound 200 miles east of Anchorage, Alaska, the Pentagon has erected a powerful transmitter designed to beam more than a gigawatt of energy into the upper reaches of the atmosphere. Known as Project HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program), the $30 million experiment involves the world's largest "ionospheric heater," a prototype device designed to zap the skies hundreds of miles above the earth with high-frequency radio waves. Why irradiate the ...

Palin Guilty of Major Ethics Act Violation: Must Return $386,000 in Contributions

Nearly a year after she quit her governorship of Alaska, Sarah Palin was found guilty today of another breach of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act involving her so-called Alaska Fund Trust (AFT), which she established as a private "legal defense fund" while governor. Timothy Petumenos, independent counsel for the Alaska Personnel Board (and ironically, the same independent counsel who issued the Troopergate findings nearly two years ago while Palin was the GOP vice-presidential nominee), presented the state's Findings, Consent Decree and Settlement Agreement this afternoon from the perfectly named Adventure Room of the Captain Cook Hotel in downtown Anchorage. In what ...

So Much for "Core Conservative Values"

So Much for "Core Conservative Values" Brent Bozell We're entering the summer vacation season, and conservatives continue feeling confident that an electoral wave is going to wash over the opposition come November. Polls show there is a great and growing dissatisfaction with Washington, which is not new, except the face this time around is that of Barack Obama, and the public is revolting over his administration's incessant attempts to grant the federal government ever more power and resources. But success in the fall is not guaranteed, and even if it ends in a GOP takeover of the House, as many predict, questions remain. Have Republicans learned anything from the ...

'Bush Did It' Is Not a Foreign Policy Victor Davis Hanson Thursday, June 17, 2010 Not being George W. Bush while apologizing for America's purported sins is not a foreign policy Ronald Reagan came into office with the idea of rolling back the Soviet Union. Reagan hoped that such an evil empire might collapse from its inability to match a newly confident United States. George H.W. Bush sought to oversee a peaceful dissolution of the Soviet empire, the reunification of Germany, and a new Western-led world order that thugs such as Manuel Noriega or Saddam Hussein could not disrupt. Bill Clinton pushed Western-inspired liberal globalization to lift the Third World out of ...

Americans Not Fooled by Obama's Israel Stance

Americans Not Fooled by Obama's Israel Stance Matt Towery Friday, June 11, 2010 I'm going to exercise a new freedom with polling. I'm going to take advantage of my experience with a nonpartisan polling firm to ask Americans some hard-hitting questions that can't in fairness be asked by that nonpartisan firm. So today I'm introducing the first "Towery Poll" of national issues. That means I don't have to worry if some Democratic polling expert likes it or not! Towery Poll questions will never consist of loaded questions. They will be fair, and the answers will be accurate. What those answers say about America and its politics may sometimes be hard for some ...

Smiling for Dollars Mike Adams Monday, June 07, 2010 I got a lot of hate mail last week in response to my column about Joel Osteen. Much of the hate mail was from the usual sources. But much of it came from so-called conservative atheists. These conservative unbelievers thought I should stop talking about my religious views on a conservative “political” website. But I refuse to do so for two reasons: 1) Because God is a conservative. 2) Because Joel Osteen is bad for both Christianity and conservatism. The assertion that God is a conservative may sound strange to some. But I’m completely serious. A conservative is simply one who believes that man is born with a propensity ...

Agency Drops Helen Thomas after Anti-Jewish Remarks

Nine Speakers, the agency that represents Helen Thomas, has dropped her as a client, Politico reported Sunday afternoon. This comes in the wake of remarks made by Thomas that emerged last week in which she said that Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine." Thomas, 89, made her shocking remark on May 27 during the Jewish Heritage Celebration at the White House. When asked by Rabbi David Nesenoff of RabbiLive.com if she had “any comments on Israel,” the Hearst Newspapers columnist put her foot in her mouth by stating, “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.” Thomas added that Palestinians “are occupied and it’s their land” and that ...

Going Out of Business? Ken Connor Sunday, June 06, 2010 In September 2008, as our President announced that he was abandoning the free market in order to save it and Congress was scrambling to pass the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, Peter Schiff – President of Euro-Pacific Capital – had this to say about the notion of a government bailout of the U.S. banking industry: "In response to the most irresponsible monetary policy in U.S. history, American citizens borrowed and spent trillions of dollars, and now the institutions that loaned them the money are going broke because we can't pay it back. And this bailout isn't going to change the fact that we're ...

Five Ways to Keep America From Turning Into Greece John Hawkins Tuesday, June 01, 2010 "The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money." -- Margaret Thatcher Guess what, folks? "Eventually" is here for Greece and it may soon be for Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and Italy as well. So, when does "eventually" come for us? Last week, congressman Mike Pence told me that unless something changes, "eventually" may only be a decade away, I don't think there's any question that unless we produce national leadership that is willing to confront our mounting fiscal crisis head-on, that America will be Greece within 10 ...

Is the Impeachment of Barack Obama Moving Forward?

Is the Impeachment of Barack Obama Moving Forward? Floyd and Mary Beth Brown Friday, May 28, 2010 All of a sudden, everyone is talking about the possibility of impeaching Barack Obama. Drudge is writing about it. Sean Hannity is talking about it. Dick Morris is saying that the potential scandal is "enormous.". Karl Rove called it an "extraordinary charge." WorldNetDaily.com wrote that "it could be grounds for impeachment." What happened? The story surrounding the alleged bribe of Congressman Joe Sestak initially broke way back in February. We wrote about it then, but it never broke out into the mainstream media. But because of activist pressure and the ...

US Goes on Offensive Against Once-Touted Iran Diplomacy

As the US hypocrisy over angrily rejecting a third party enrichment deal with Iran that is materially identical to the deal they have been demanding Iran accept all along becomes painfully obvious, the State Department has turned to angrily railing against the “deficiencies” of the deal in an effort to sound cover up what amounts to an admission that they have never been pursuing diplomacy in good faith with Iran. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton termed Iran’s agreeing to US demands as a “transparent ploy” and claimed that Iran must be “held accountable” for accepting the deal. Undersecretary Nicolas Burns took shots at Turkey and Brazil for ...

US Military Ratchets Up Iran Infiltration to Prepare for War

Officials today have admitted that Gen. David Petraeus signed a secret order months ago to dramatically escalate the number of covert military operations taking place in the Middle East. Special focus was said to have been given to Somalia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. Though officials spun the operation as aimed primarily at al-Qaeda, some sources have conceded that the Iran operations were aimed at “paving the way” for an eventual US invasion of Iran, should President Obama order one in the near future. The US has been openly funding opposition figures in Iran in an attempt at forcing “regime change,” and in the past it has also funded terrorist outfit Jundallah, but ...

Is Elena Kagan related to the PNAC Kagans? Why it matters...

I first noticed this issue in the comments section about a newsitem on the South Korean ship sinking. Below is an excerpt from one of several sites that are inquiring about Elena Kagan's suspected relationship to the PNAC Kagans. It asks this question: "why is it that she works diligently under the neoliberal Clinton/Obama regime to protect all those neocon war criminals from the Halcyon Bush days?" and answers it: "Well, simply put, it might be because she is related to several of the men who would be arrested if anyone started investigating the criminality of the neocons during the Bush years. Yeah, it might be that simple." All in the Family; The Globalist ...

Stopping Obama’s Plan to Subvert the Constitution Ken Blackwell Wednesday, May 12, 2010 [Editor’s note: This column was co-authored by Ken Klukowski, SCOTUS correspondent for Townhall.com.] On October 31, 2008, Barack Obama proclaimed, “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” In November 4, he won the presidency. Ever since that day, he’s been pursuing his vision of fundamentally transforming our country. He must be stopped. We show you how to do it in The Blueprint: Obama’s Plan to Subvert the Constitution and Build an Imperial Presidency, our new bestselling book. President Obama desperately wants to transform ...

Assassination of US Muslim Cleric is Illegal, Immoral and Unwise

Agents of the United States are openly trying to assassinate Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, a US citizen, while he is in hiding in Yemen. Despite what the apologists for assassination argue this is illegal, immoral and unwise. Assassinating Awlaki in the US would be murder, a capital crime, punishable by life in prison or even the death penalty. Morally, few would argue that agents of the FBI or the CIA could murder the cleric in the US. If it is illegal and immoral to kill a Muslim cleric in the US why would it be legal, moral or wise to do so in Yemen? The Imam, who lived in the US for more than two decades, is accused of using his powerful speaking and teaching skills on behalf of ...

‘The Monster’ Testifies at Gitmo Hearing: Former Bagram Interrogator Damien Corsetti Discusses Abuse of 15 y.o Omar Khadr

GUANTANAMO BAY — His nickname wasn’t “Monster,” he admonished the lawyer. It was “The Monster.” That was what the Bagram Collection Point’s interrogators, guards — and most especially detainees — called Army interrogator Damien Corsetti. And it was important to him that the court correctly record his story. Back then — in 2002 at Bagram, and later at Iraq’s notorious Abu Ghraib prison — Corsetti was as fearsome as his handle. Although acquitted, he went before a court-martial proceeding related to the abuse of a detainee in Iraq. Now, Corsetti is an unemployed veteran of two wars, unable to work because of post-traumatic stress ...

Losing Afghan hearts and minds

Losing Afghan hearts and minds By Julien Mercille The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is losing hearts and minds in Afghanistan, according to a report by the International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) that gives a clear signal of the dangers of the military operation against Kandahar planned for this summer. Contrary to its stated objectives of protecting the population from insurgents, NATO is actually raising the likelihood that poor Afghans will join the Taliban - not a great report card for General Stanley McChrystal, the top commander in Afghanistan, whose strategies seem to be backfiring. The report, entitled Operation Moshtarak: Lessons Learned [1], is ...

Sara Palin's Book adorns Tom Tancredo's office wall LA County Libertarian Examiner In an interview with Colorado's KDVR TV, former Colorado Congressman and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo was asked about Arizona's controversial new law SB 1070. The Daily Show ran a snippet of the Tancredo interview, claiming that the immigration hardliner was surprisingly against the new law. Tancredo rebutted this claim with a follow-up interview on FOX News, and explained that the Huffington post and other left wing bloggers mischaracterized what he had said. The Daily Show had aired a segment on the bill and included a brief clip of Tancredo saying "I do not want the police, ...
