Bush Said Of Larry Craig: 'What Is Up With All These Republicans?'
Post Date: 2009-09-21 19:47:28 by Brian S

President George W. Bush was flabbergasted by the revelation that Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig had plead guilty to soliciting an undercover cop at a Minneapolis airport, a former Bush speechwriter alleges in a new book. "What is up with all these Republicans?" he purportedly remarked. Matt Latimer, an ex-Bush aide who grew disillusioned with the former president, also posits that onetime Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld considered editing his own page on Wikipedia, but "had to be talked out of" it. "He was a Drudge Report reader and used to watch YouTube clips that made fun of his press conference performances," Grimm summarizes. The claims -- ...

(AFP) - Former US vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin is expected to speak about US foreign policy and China in her first keynote speech outside North America, Hong Kong organisers said on Monday. Palin, mocked during last year's presidential campaign for her lack of experience in foreign affairs and for her verbal gaffes, is due to address hundreds of financial big-hitters at the CLSA Investors' Forum on Wednesday. "We have asked her to address US foreign policy, to discuss her views on governance, healthcare, and of course, China," Jonathan Slone, chief executive officer of the Asia-focused brokerage, said in an interview with AFP. Palin was chosen to speak since ...

GOP Senator's Aide: Tell Little Boys That Porn Will Make Them Gay

Michael Schwartz, chief of staff to Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), has an interesting theory: If you tell little boys that looking at pornography will make them gay, maybe they won't want a copy of Playboy. Schwartz attempted to explain this claim during a pep talk on "the new masculinity" at the Values Voter Conference last week, reported ThinkProgress. During his presentation, Schwartz asserted that all the pre-adolescent boys he has been associated with "speak badly" about homosexuality, which he implied to be somehow positive. He added that a friend of his once claimed that all pornography is homosexual, because it turns one's sexual urges "inwards." ...

(09-17) 13:35 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) -- A top aide to former Attorney General John Ashcroft claimed his Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination Thursday in a trial related to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. David Ayers, who was Ashcroft's chief of staff at the Justice Department during the Bush administration, refused to answer questions under oath about tickets he received from Abramoff's firm and any favors he may have granted for the firm's clients. Ayers was called as a defense witness in the corruption trial of Abramoff deputy Kevin Ring. Ring faces charges that he illegally influenced federal officials by providing them with expensive meals, drinks and ...

Cleon Skousen was a right-wing crank whom even conservatives despised. Then Beck discovered him By Alexander Zaitchik Sep. 16, 2009 | On Saturday, I spent the afternoon with America's new breed of angry conservative. Up to 75,000 protesters had gathered in Washington on Sept. 12, the day after the eighth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, sporting the now familiar tea-bagger accoutrements of "Don't Tread on Me" T-shirts, Revolutionary War outfits and Obama-the-Joker placards. The male-skewing, nearly all-white throng had come to denounce the president and what they believe is his communist-fascist agenda. Even if the turnout wasn't the 2 million ...

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 Alex Jones has addressed Glenn Beck in the form of an open letter, appealing to him to “be on the right side of history” by using his growing public platform to tell the truth rather than exploiting it to deceive grass-roots conservatives and libertarians into following a re-birth of the neo-con agenda that Beck has embraced all along.——————————————Glenn Beck,It is important to preface this letter by highlighting the fact that I do not attack people lightly and have defended you in the past when Van Jones was calling for you to be fired. I fully support your right to free speech. It ...

Glenn Beck's Demagoguery, Right Wing Extremism, and Racism - by Stephen Lendman At a time of 24-hour news and a proliferation of television and radio talk shows featuring hatemongers and demagogues like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck may stand out as the most unhinged and extremist of all as evidenced by his jihad against anyone to the left of his views, disadvantaged minorities, Muslims, Latino immigrants, and progressive change in some of his most outlandish comments, including: -- calling Barack Obama a "racist (who) has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture; I don't know what it is....This guy is, I believe, a ...

Bush Joked About Hillary’s ‘Fat Keister', Palin's Inexperience And Dismissed The "Conservative Movement" While In Office

Former Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer has a new book coming out that promises to disclose what administration officials were saying behind the scenes. Not surprisingly, there’s a “growing nervousness” about the book amongst many prominent conservatives. GQ has some new excerpts of Latimer’s book, which reveal that President Bush liked to mock other politicians: On Sarah Palin: “‘I’m trying to remember if I’ve met her before. I’m sure I must have.’ His eyes twinkled, then he asked, ‘What is she, the governor of Guam?‘ … ‘This woman is being put into a position she is not even remotely prepared for,’ he said. ...

During a hearing in U.S. District Court Monday, an attorney for an Army officer fighting deployment to Iraq questioned Barack Obama’s legal right to serve as president, asserting he was born in Kenya, not Hawaii. Judge Clay Land, inquisitive throughout the 90-minute hearing, said he will issue a decision on Capt. Connie Rhodes’ request for a temporary restraining order by noon Wednesday. Rhodes was represented by Orly Taitz, a California lawyer and a national figure in the “birther” movement that claims Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president. Top state Republicans will urge former Mayor Rudy Giuli ani to abandon his interest in running for governor and run instead against unelected US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, The Post has learned. The appeal, expected within a few weeks, comes in the wake of Giuliani's embarrassing defeat in his effort to block Manhattan lawyer Ed Cox, ex-President Richard Nixon's son-in-law, from becoming the state GOP chairman. Sponsored Links "I am picking up no support for Rudy for governor, but I'm hearing his name mentioned for US Senate," one of the state's most influential elected Republicans, a Cox supporter, told The Post. ABC News Was Misquoted on Crowd Size, Reported D.C. Rally Size in Tens of Thousands, Not 1M to 1.5M as Activist Said

Conservative activists, who organized a march on the U.S. Capitol today in protest of the Obama administration's health care agenda and government spending, erroneously attributed reports on the size of the crowds to ABC News. Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, the group that organized the event, said on stage at the rally Saturday that ABC News was reporting that 1 million to 1.5 million people were in attendance. At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as ...

Sarah Palin: Neocon Pawn?

Here come the neocons again—and this time with Sarah Palin. A group of conservative foreign policy advocates—including a bevy of neoconservatives—this week sent President Barack Obama a letter urging him to stand firm in Afghanistan and vowing their support for him (on Afghanistan) if he did so. The letter was organized by the Foreign Policy Initiative, a think tank put together by leading neoconservatives Bill Kristol and Robert Kagan, and signers included the pair and such neocon stalwarts as David Frum, Max Boot, Robert Kagan, John Podhoretz, Clifford May, Danielle Pletka, Randy Scheunemann, Dan Senor, and Gary Schmitt. But two high-profile right-wingers also added their ...

Advertisement Nunn, 56, is being treated at the Bowling Green Medical Center where a medical center spokeswoman said he was in fair condition Friday afternoon. Joe Wilson Voted to Provide Taxpayer Money for Illegal Immigrants' Healthcare

On Wednesday night, Rep. Joe Wilson [R, SC-2], shouted “You lie!” at President Obama when he said that the healthcare bill would not cover illegal immigrants. “The supporters of the government takeover of healthcare and liberals who want to give healthcare to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan,” Wilson said the next day in a campaign fundraising video. However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing ...

Rep. Joe "You Lie" Wilson Amends Financial Disclosures

Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., is heavily leveraged and his debts may even exceed his assets, according to an amended financial disclosure form for 2008 that for the first time reveals hundreds of thousands of dollars in previously unreported loans from federal credit unions and banks. Wilson made headlines Wednesday night for yelling "Lie. You lie," at President Obama during an address to a joint session of Congress. Now, it turns out that the personal financial disclosure form Wilson filed with the House of Representatives in May was grossly inaccurate. Lawmakers are required to declare what they own and disclose -- within a pretty wide range -- how much each asset is worth and how ...

The Bloody Legacy of Cheney's Failures

By Gerhard Spörl AP While Cheney warns of a "what if" future, many are forced to deal with the bloody wounds of his devastating past. After 9/11, Dick Cheney took the reins in America. The 'war on terror' was his idea, and it led to real wars in Afghanistan and Iraq -- and to the torture he approved and defends. While Cheney is writing a memoir to influence how people see his role, the rest of the world would just prefer to get on with cleaning up his mess -- with him out of the picture. Dick Cheney has bought a house in McLean, an upscale community in the largely rural state of Virginia. Although it's conveniently located near Washington, DC, it somehow ...

Republican U.S. Reps. Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul will share the stage at a student town hall this month. The event, hosted by Young Americans for Liberty, will be held Sept. 25 at Northrop Auditorium on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Organizers said Bachmann and Paul will discuss "monetary reform, limited government and free market economics" and that their appearance is designed to counter "President Obama's health care proposal, bailout mania and the rapid rise of government control and spending." Bachmann, who is in her second term representing Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District, has attained a national profile as a conservative ...

Just over a month ago, Linda Douglass, a former ABC News correspondent and current communications director for the Obama administration’s Health Reform Office, appeared in a video posted on the White House’s official blog titled “Facts Are Stubborn Things.” In the video, the Drudge Report was displayed on one of the computer screens at her desk. Peering over her red-framed glasses, Ms. Douglass read one of the headlines posted on the site: “Uncovered Video: Obama Explains How His Healthcare Plan Will ‘Eliminate’ Private Insurance.” “Well, nothing can be farther from the truth,” Ms. Douglass said into the camera. “The people who always ...
