Senator Tom Coburn on a personal Jihad against the Voice of America. (WMR)

April 4, 2007 -- Oklahoma's extreme right-wing Republican Senator Tom Coburn is on a Joseph McCarthy-like crusade against the Voice of America -- or what remains of it after draconian budget cuts, foreign language program cancellations, and neo-con editorializing. According to VOA sources, Coburn is on a personal vendetta against some long-serving VOA broadcasters. Coburn is accusing some of having links to Hezbollah, the government of Iran, and other bogeymen of convenience. Radio Farda, a joint operation of the VOA and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, has been dubbed by Coburn and his staff of neo-cons as "Radio Khatami," a reference to the previous moderate President of ...

April 6-8, 2007 -- Delusional neo-cons. Herbert Meyer, who was the Special Assistant to the Director of Central Intelligence and Vice Chairman of the CIA's National Intelligence Council during the Reagan administration, has penned a "Global Intelligence Briefing" for CEOs. Some highlights from the monograph, a copy of which was obtained by WMR: "the underlying strategy behind the war is to use our military to remove the radicals from power and give the moderates a chance. Our hope is that, over time, the moderates will find a way to bring Islam forward into the 21st century. That's what our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan is all about." "It won't be ...

The U.S. military operation against Iran code-named "Operation Bite" and scheduled by the leading global media for April 6 did not take place. Bravo, Iran! Bravo, because Iran did not swallow the bait. Eye-witnesses report that life there remained perfectly normal. State-run television and radio continued working as usual. News reports in the early hours of April 6 informed the audience as usual about the situation in Iran and the rest of the world, and the latest events in sports and culture. Now, the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to live a normal life, as if the "Bite" had never been planned. A whole army of military experts had swallowed the provocative ...

Iranian Diplomat Alleges CIA Torture

An Iranian diplomat freed two months after being abducted in Iraq accused the CIA of torturing him during his detention, state television reported Saturday. The United States immediately denied any involvement in the Iranian's disappearance or release. Jalal Sharafi, who was freed on Tuesday, said the CIA questioned him about Iran's relations with Iraq and assistance to various Iraqi groups, according to state television. ``Once they heard my response that Iran merely has official relations with the Iraqi government and officials, they intensified tortures and tortured me through different methods days and nights,'' he said. Sharafi's comments came a day after 15 ...

Bill O’Reilly: JFK Conspiracy Theorist

Bill O’Reilly: JFK Conspiracy Theorist Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has been criticizing Rosie O’Donnell over her blog post repeating a 9/11 conspiracy theory. O’Reilly declared that “you can’t allow” someone to “make anti-American remarks…accusing your own government of murder.” He called claims that the U.S. government acted in a criminal way “irresponsible and dangerous.” Too bad for O’Reilly, tapes from his days on the Peabody Award-winning Inside Edition are still floating around. Watch below as O’Reilly spreads the JFK conspiracy theory that the CIA secretly supported assassin Lee Harvey Oswald: (Go to the ...

Americans offered 'aggressive patrols' in Iranian airspace

The US offered to take military action on behalf of the 15 British sailors and marines held by Iran, including buzzing Iranian Revolutionary Guard positions with warplanes, the Guardian has learned. In the first few days after the captives were seized and British diplomats were getting no news from Tehran on their whereabouts, Pentagon officials asked their British counterparts: what do you want us to do? They offered a series of military options, a list which remains top secret given the mounting risk of war between the US and Iran. But one of the options was for US combat aircraft to mount aggressive patrols over Iranian Revolutionary Guard bases in Iran, to underline the seriousness of ...

U.S. protects Iranian opposition group in Iraq

An Iranian opposition group based in Iraq, despite being considered terrorists by the United States, continues to receive protection from the American military in the face of Iraqi pressure to leave the country. It's a paradox possible only because the United States considers the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, or MEK, a source of valuable intelligence on Iran. Iranian officials tied the MEK to an explosion in February at a girls school in Zahedan, Iran. (Full story) The group also is credited with helping expose Iran's secret nuclear program through spying on Tehran for decades. And the group is considered an ally to America because of its opposition to Tehran. However, the U.S. State ...

RUSH: As mentioned and as promised, we welcome back to the EIB Microphone -- it's always a great privilege to have the vice president, Dick Cheney, with us. Mr. Vice President, welcome once again to our program. THE VICE PRESIDENT: Well, thank you, Rush. It's good to be back on. RUSH: I can imagine. Now, let's start talking about the supplemental funding bill for Iraq. I have to tell you something that I heard last night as I'm watching some of the cable news network shows. Some of the Democrats and Democrat commentators, are saying publicly now they expect that the president is eventually going to back off the veto threat because he will he will eventually realize that he ...

Open the Door, Richard: 'NY Sun' Wants Cheney to Join 2008 Race for President

April 05, 2007 2:55 PM ET NEW YORK The New York City daily The Sun, clearly not afraid to go where others fear to tread, declared on Wednesday in an editorial that one big man is missing on the 2008 campaign trail. "For all the talk about potential candidates who haven't entered the 2008 presidential race — from Mayor Bloomberg to Vice President Gore to Senator Thompson and Speaker Gingrich — the one that who would bring the most to the race is Vice President Cheney," the editorial began. It's not just that the president deserves a strong defender out on the trail. "Mr. Cheney has virtues as a candidate in his own right," the editorial continued. ...

Once again, it's me and Ralph Peters on the same wavelength, deploring the cowardice of the British sailors and marines kidnapped by Iran. When it happened, I said I hoped the ones who'd shamed their country would be court-martialed on return to Blighty, and given dishonorable discharges after a couple years breaking rocks in the Outer Hebrides (which, believe me—I've been there—have a LOT of rocks). Now, I confess, I wouldn't shed a tear if some worse fate befell them. The only coherent response I get to these sentiments is: "How do you know what they've been through? How would YOU stand up?" To which the obvious reply is the one Dr. Johnson gave ...

O'Reilly's America: Who Is The Real "Hater"?

A place where the right to disagree = the right to be locked up Bill O'Reilly's torrent of attacks upon Rosie O'Donnell, Charlie Sheen and Mark Cuban over the past few days in regards to their outspoken views on 9/11 is a prime example of why the First Amendment should never be presided over by those in power. In what has been described by many as a crude attempt to piggyback on the spiking of viewers to O'Donnell's show The View, O'Reilly has gone on the extreme offensive, suggesting that O'Donnell has "crossed a line" and should reprimanded for being a "hater". In two separate broadcasts on Fox News yesterday O'Reilly mentioned the ...

Bill O'Reilly cuts mic of US Colonel Ann Wright as she defends her service and stance Reported by Chrish - March 31, 2007 - 384 comments It seems the last straw that led to Bill O'Reilly cutting the mic of retired US. Army Colonel Ann Wright on The Factor last night 3/30/07 was her declaration of 29 years of service, and her questioning O'Reilly about how many years he served. This happened as she refused to let him silence her by overtalking, twisting her words and accusing her of blaming America for the Iran-Britain situation going on now. With video. Wright, who taught the Geneva Conventions to troops at Fort Bragg, might just know what she's talking about, but ...

Ex-Aide Details a Loss of Faith in the President By JIM RUTENBERG AUSTIN, Tex., March 29 — In 1999, Matthew Dowd became a symbol of George W. Bush’s early success at positioning himself as a Republican with Democratic appeal. A top strategist for the Texas Democrats who was disappointed by the Bill Clinton years, Mr. Dowd was impressed by the pledge of Mr. Bush, then governor of Texas, to bring a spirit of cooperation to Washington. He switched parties, joined Mr. Bush’s political brain trust and dedicated the next six years to getting him to the Oval Office and keeping him there. In 2004, he was appointed the president’s chief campaign strategist. Looking back, Mr. ...

Taking One for the Team, When He Could Remember By Dana Milbank Friday, March 30, 2007; A02 Kyle Sampson, the former chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, was in his fourth hour testifying yesterday about the firing of federal prosecutors when Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy cut him off. "We've just received word that the Republicans have objected, under the Senate rules, to this meeting continuing," Leahy (D-Vt.) announced before angrily bringing down the gavel. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), in the middle of questioning Sampson, was puzzled. "Does it apply to a Republican, too?" he inquired. It turned out that nobody had really ...

Time to Go By The Editors The story of the eight fired U.S. attorneys has been relentlessly overhyped. We do not know that any of them was fired because the administration put its political interests ahead of his or her prosecutorial judgment. Sen. Dick Durbin’s recent insinuation that the attorneys who were not fired had kept their jobs by compromising their prosecutions was outrageous. If congressional Democrats are wrong to bluster, however, they are within their rights to investigate. They may yet turn up enough evidence to prove that some of the firings were improper violations of political norms. We do not need more evidence, however, to reach a conclusion about the ...

The White House's impending email security disaster

Yesterday my boss - who isn't the most net savvy guy in the world - got an email from Paypal claiming that there was a problem with his credit card, so he logged into his account and updated his information. Today he discovered an unexplained withdrawal for $2,600 from his Checkcard account. This is just minutes after I'd taken a look at this suspicious email and discovered that it didn't come from Paypal at all and instead directed the user to a domain called http://dancesforlifes.com which featured a facimile of the paypal login and html code that then sent his Id, Password and credit card information to a Gmail address. Oh shit!. All of this I mention just to point out ...

And some people wonder why I call him Pigboy. RUSH: I totally understand this. How old is your son? CALLER: He's 19. RUSH: Your son is 19. If I'm 18, 19, 17, I volunteered for this. I'm joining the Marines. I want to be on the front lines. I want to be the first group in. I want to go to Iraq. Despite everything that's been said about this mission in the media, despite four years of the drumbeat of defeat and, "It's not possible," we still have young men like your son signing up for this all over the country. I have to believe that when they see what the Democrats in the House are doing and how they're smiling and gloating over securing what they think ...

On June 7, the National Post, a Canadian daily, published a rather amusing article by Jeet Heer, titled "Trotsky's ghost wandering the White House." The aim of the author was to illuminate two issues occasionally argued in political media: first, the scurrilous claim by a group of neofascists that the neoconservatives are all ex-Trotskyists, and second, the very real evolution of certain ex-Trotskyists toward an interventionist position on the Iraq war. In the U.S., these are fringe topics discussed only in the most rarefied circles. In Canada, however, a labor and socialist party remains a major political force (the New Democrats), and politics in general has a more European ...

Hicks pleads guilty to escape "inhumane gulag"

Australian lawmakers have said Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks has pleaded guilty to terrorism charges to speed up his return home and escape a flawed system of U.S. military justice. "His guilty plea is simply a plea for release for exit from the inhumane Guantanamo Bay gulag. That's a human response," Reuters reported Greens Senator Bob Brown as saying. "His urge to get home to Australia almost under any circumstances has overtaken him. There is no way that this can be seen as a genuine guilty plea," he said. "Hicks has been brought before a kangaroo court. He's found his escape was to plead guilty. Who wouldn't do that after the torture and the ...

For those of you who haven't noticed, I've been removing articles posted in Breaking news that are not news....and not even close to being news. They are someone's idea of a personal rant. And since it isn't news, I'm not going to relocate it...I'm going to REMOVE it. In the past, articles were posted in Breaking news that weren't. People got sanctioned or banned for doing that. Lately, SOME people just post any garbage they seem to have an obsession over, and even put in their own comments. That ends today. NOW. I'm not going to fight any of you over it. It's a lost cause. But I moderate this site, and I will ensure that NEWS is what is being posted. ...

DHS has plan for new HQ in lunatic asylum

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is setting up its new HQ in a former lunatic asylum. The DHS says it will consolidate most of the 60 offices it has across the Washington, D.C. region into a single new headquarters building. The $3 billion move will begin in 2011, according to a plan prepared by the DHS, once a new building is ready in the grounds of the former mental hospital, St. Elizabeth's. The U.S. Coast Guard will be the first element of the DHS to move into the new building in 2011, department Spokesman Larry Orluskie told United Press International. The DHS's headquarters functions will follow in 2013, and the other components slated for centralization will move ...

Is Edward's Cancer announcement a vote-fishing stunt? Yes No If Mrs. Edwards has a recurrence of breast cancer, we should keep her and her children in our prayers. But I would not put it past her sleazebag, slip-and-fall shyster husband to announce this to get the female vote. Here's what is suspect about this announcement: 1. Timing. It's less than a year before the dem primaries and Obama and Clinton have been getting a great deal of press. Furthermore, Mrs. Edwards announced that she had breast cancer during the same year that her husband ran for president last time. I don't doubt the original 04 announcement, but I do doubt this announcement. 2. Shamelessness. ...
