Politico Reports Herman Cain Sexual Harassment Allegation Coverup
Post Date: 2011-10-30 22:33:05 by Phant2000

Late Sunday evening, Politico published a report alleging that current Republican presidential frontrunner Herman Cain was the subject of accusations of sexual harassment while he was head of the National Restaurant Association (The Other NRA™). While Politico’s story is thoroughly reported, it relies completely on anonymous sources, which might make this budding scandal survivable if not for the candidate’s, and his campaign’s, prosciutto-fisted handling of it. According to the report, Cain was accused by two women, employees of the NRA, of repeated inappropriate behavior, including “unwanted sexual advances,” but both women were paid off to leave the ...

Herman Cain spent over $100,000 of donor's money buying copies of his OWN book By Meghan Keneally Last updated at 4:44 AM on 22nd October 2011 Herman Cain may have based presidential bid around his 9-9-9 tax plan, but some of his other numbers may not be adding up. Financial filings show that the GOP candidate has used over $100,000 of donor's money to buy copies of booklets that his own company profits from. Mr Cain is the sole owner of a corporation called T.H.E. New Voice, Inc., which sells self-published booklets, DVDs and videos chronicling the pizza magnate's rise to fame. Recently released Federal Election Commission filings, show that the 66-year-old's campaign ...

Ron Paul ramps up campaign spending

Ron Paul’s 2012 campaign has ramped up faster than his 2008 bid, hiring staff in key states and making paid media buys earlier than last time. That’s costing a lot of money. Paul’s heavy campaign burn-rate emerged in his third-quarter campaign finance report filed Saturday, which showed him raising about $8.2 million for the period but also spending $7.5 million. He finished the quarter with $3.6 million in the bank. The largest costs came in the form of more than $2 million spent on TV and direct-mail advertising, for airtime and mail pieces that are running well past the quarter’s closing date last month. The campaign also is spending hundreds of thousands of ...

The New Polls Have Some Ominous News For Mitt Romney
Post Date: 2011-10-13 09:08:19 by Ada

There's a growing sense that the GOP nomination is Mitt Romney's to lose now. But there are a couple of problems with this. First of all, he's not leading in the polls. Herman Cain is. For various reasons, people don't think Herman Cain can actually hold on (he lacks organization, his policies won't stand up to scrutiny, he's a bit too odd, etc.), so people still think Romney is the leader. But one line in the latest WSJ poll is ominous: Mr. Romney held firm in second place at 23%, his same share as in a Journal poll in late August. So Perry is fading, and Cain is gaining, and even Newt (!) has been gaining in polls. Everyone is gaining expect Mitt Romney and ...

Grin and Bear It was the name of a Sunday comic strip I loved. Its writer/artist went by the name George Lichty. When I was a kid, he did one I've always remembered. In Stalinist Russia, two bureaucrats with star-shaped "Hero" medals on their chests stand either side of an office safe with a broken door. One of the two is lamenting, "Is terrible news, Comrade! Someone is stealing results of next week's election!" Welcome to 21st century America. You've seen it yourself, and recently. The state-controlled "news" media announce that Michelle Bachmann (or Herman Cain or whoever) wins a "straw poll", while Mitt Romney (or some other zombie) ...

Medina highlights questions of money and influence in Capitol

Piggybacking off the national attention being paid to Gov. Rick Perry’s 2007 vaccine mandate and his ties to the vaccine-maker’s lobbyist, former Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina and other advocates sought to shine the spotlight back on the Texas Capitol. “The fact that public policy is being written to provide market advantages to political donors rather than to promote a fair and just free market climate is at the heart of the economic crisis our nation faces today,” Medina said at a Capitol news conference on Thursday. The critics said they wanted to show a pattern of “crony capitalism” in the Legislature that stretched beyond the HPV ...

The Birth of American Imperialism

In The Costs of War (edited by John Denson), historian Joseph Stromberg referred to the Spanish-American War of 1898 as a "trial run" for the American empire. The war had nothing to do with national defense and was purely an act of imperialism on the part of the U.S. government, which gained control over Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands. It led the renowned late nineteenth-century libertarian scholar, William Graham Sumner of Yale, to compose a famous essay entitled "The Conquest of the United States by Spain." The essay described how the war transformed America from a constitutional republic into an imperialist power, just like the old Spanish ...

How Obama Won His US Senate Office

At Political Theatre, Lew Rockwell mentions my comment to him about Tim Geithner's father funding President Obama's mother. The facts are there and it should be broadly understood, but what also should be understood is that it appears Obama had his political career cleared for him right from the start. I happened to have somewhat of a front row seat when Obama first ran for Senate in Illinois. In the Democratic primary he ran against a very wealthy stock trader, Blair Hull. Hull was unskilled as a politician, but he had big money (his own) to compete against Obama. He had the support of Chicago's Gold Coast behind him and I attended one event where Billie Jean King endorsed ...

Huntsman Finishes Opening Day with Big Money HaulBy JEFF ZELENYJon M. Huntsman Jr. opened his day on Tuesday by formally declaring his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. He closed it by accomplishing an equally important task: collecting $1.2 million for his campaign.A dinner in Manhattan, hosted by Lynn Forester de Rothschild, was the venue to kickoff Mr. Huntsman’s fund-raising effort. It was the first stop in a weeklong fund-raising sprint, as Mr. Huntsman tries to catch up with the rest of the Republican presidential field that is locked in a cutthroat scramble to sign up high-dollar donors.Mr. Huntsman is attending a fund-raising dinner Wednesday night in ...

The Founding Father of ‘Collective Responsibility’
Post Date: 2011-09-12 06:57:00 by Ada

The phrase "collective responsibility" is rather pleasant sounding, with its implication that, perhaps, we should all collectively take responsibility for our own actions. What parents should not teach their children such things? But for at least the past 150 years "collective responsibility" also has a specific meaning with regard to U.S. military policy. In the military context, "collective responsibility" is a euphemism for the mass murder of innocent civilians. It is a phrase that was used by General William Tecumseh Sherman himself, long preceding today’s nonchalant dismissal of the murder of civilians in foreign countries as "collateral ...

Starbucks CEO hosts town hall on politics

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz changed how America drinks coffee. Now, he wants to change the political system. The leader of the coffee giant says U.S. political leaders have created a "crisis of confidence" with their political wrangling that is wreaking havoc on the economy. He said he wants to give a voice to all citizens by hosting a national telephone forum on Tuesday. He's also running ads in the New York Times and USA Today ahead of the event, featuring an open letter that urges Americans to participate in the forum and insist politicians end their hyper-partisan behavior. "We must send the message to today's elected officials ... ...

'Jewish' Bachmann is costing Romney

'Jewish' Bachmann is costing Romney Funny, she doesn't look Jewish. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is facing a new challenge: He's having trouble raising money from some Jewish donors who mistakenly believe one of his opponents, Michele Bachmann, is Jewish. Some Jewish donors are telling fund-raisers for Romney, a Mormon, that while they like him, they'd rather open their wallets for the "Jewish candidate," who they don't realize is actually a Lutheran, The Post has learned. "It's a real problem," one Romney fund-raiser said. "We're working very hard in the Jewish community because of Obama's Israel problem. This ...

The Lobbying that Shouldn't be Happening

The extraordinary lobbying campaign on behalf of the sometime Marxist/Islamist cult/terrorist group known as the Mujahedin-e Khalq is getting waged on ever more fronts. The specific objective is to get the Obama administration to remove the MEK from the list of foreign terrorist organizations. Wherever the money to fund the campaign is coming from, some of the largest expenditures so far have been in the form of fat speaking fees to notables who are willing to accept the check and come out in favor of delisting the group. Some of these high-profile hired advocates later acknowledged they did not have all that much knowledge about the MEK. Having purchased advocacy at the high end, the ...

Perry and Obama deadlocked in national poll
Post Date: 2011-08-22 17:55:11 by CadetD

Gov. Rick Perry and President Barack Obama are tied in Gallup’s new national polls of registered voters, with each getting 47 percent of the vote in a hypothetical matchup. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney does slightly better than Perry against Obama, while Perry comes out a little better against Obama than U.S. Reps. Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann. Among independents, Perry leads Obama, but within the four-point margin of error — 46 percent to 44 percent. The poll was conducted last Wednesday and Thursday, a couple of days after Perry suggested that it would be potentially treasonous for the Federal Reserve to purchase U.S. Treasury bonds in order to stimulate the ...

Who do these people work for?? (Author’s note: I am aware that this is an incomplete list, but I had to narrow it down to 10 points-please add to the list in the comments section) Rick Perry: • Perry mandated compulsory Gardasil vaccines for 6th grade girls, which was overturned by the state legislature (2007). • As the Agriculture Commissioner of Texas, Perry ushered genetically engineered (GE) crops into the state. He used dirty tricks to defeat the former Commissioner, Jim ...

Rick Perry: Extremist White America's Evangelical Hope

Rick Perry: Extremist White America's Evangelical Hope - by Stephen Lendman Consider the unpalatable 2012 options, a choice between: -- a so far unopposed lawless/crime boss/militarist/pro-war/anti-populist president; and -- a rogue's gallery of Republican aspirants, looking more like a police lineup than legitimate candidates for any office, let alone the nation's highest - with one exception, Ron Paul, ignored by America's media for the following reasons: (1) He advocates abolishing the Federal Reserve, owned and run by Wall Street. In fact, several times in Congress, he introduced the Federal Reserve Abolition Act. With no co-sponsors, no further action followed. ...
