Obama says he didn't know aunt's illegal status

CHICAGO – Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Saturday he didn't know his aunt was living in the United States illegally and believes that laws covering the situation should be followed. The Associated Press found that Obama's aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama's late father. A statement given to the AP by Obama's campaign said, "Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate ...

Service union contends signatures for Nader petition faulty (Article from 2004 election where I kept Nader off the Oregon presidential ballot)

A public employees union claimed Monday that it has uncovered widespread fraud in the Ralph Nader campaign's effort to gather enough signatures to qualify for Oregon's ballot. Nader's campaign discounted the allegations and said the Service Employees International Union -- which supports Democrat Sen. John Kerry -- is trying to intimidate its petitioners as a way of keeping the independent presidential candidate off the state's ballot. Nader must collect 15,306 valid signatures from registered voters by Aug. 24 to run in Oregon. Earlier this year, he twice failed to draw 1,000 voters to a convention, which is another way of qualifying. In those attempts, he received help ...

Self destruction: thy name is Bob Barr

by Jonathan Cymberknopf(Libertarian) What started out as the most promising Third Party campaign in years is turning out to be the most disappointing one in years. Looking back at the Libertarian convention, the purists of the Libertarian Party did try to warn us, but we did not listen as promises of gold blinded our eyes. We forgave Bob Barr’s despicable voting record in Congress as a Republican and gave him the benefit of the doubt that he truly had repented for his sins and hoped his transformation was true to form in exchange for going after the gold. Unfortunately, it turned out to be fools gold, as Bob Barr has made one bad decision after another during a Presidential race ...

Obama's New Attack on Those Who Don't Want Higher Taxes: ‘Selfishness’ [Full Thread]

On the stump this week, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has pushed back against Sen. John McCain's description of his tax policies. "The reason that we want to do this, change our tax code, is not because I have anything against the rich," Obama said in Sarasota, Fla., yesterday. "I love rich people! I want all of you to be rich. Go for it. That’s the American dream, that’s the American way, that’s terrific. "The point is, though, that -- and it’s not just charity, it’s not just that I want to help the middle class and working people who are trying to get in the middle class -- it’s that when we actually make sure that everybody’s got ...

Poll: Dead heats in 2 key swing states

Barack Obama and John McCain are evenly matched in the swing states of North Carolina and Missouri, though Obama is strongly outpacing McCain in two of those states’ crucial battleground counties, according to new Politico/InsiderAdvantage polls. In North Carolina, Obama and McCain were tied with 48 percent of the vote. Only 3 percent of voters in the state remain undecided. In Missouri, McCain led Obama 50 percent to 47 percent, an edge that was within the margin of error. Voters in North Carolina’s Wake County, however, part of the politically competitive Research Triangle area, chose Obama by a solid 53 percent to 39 percent margin. That represented a considerable improvement ...

Nader puts spotlight on 1967 'cover-up' Friday, October 31, 2008 3:12 AM By Jim Siegel THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Ralph Nader wants John McCain to address his support of a book about Israel's attack on a U.S. ship in 1967. Adding to his usual criticisms of the "corporate candidates" from the two major parties, independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader yesterday introduced a wrinkle, calling on John McCain to come clean about Israel's 1967 attack on the USS Liberty. "He doesn't like to have his character impugned. I'm challenging his character on this point," Nader said in a news conference at the Statehouse. McCain was not involved in the ...

Obama and the Runaway Train The race, the case, a hope for grace. By PEGGY NOONAN The case for Barack Obama, in broad strokes: He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief. He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and ...

Making Excuses for Obama

October 31, 2008 Making Excuses for Obama The mythology of good intentions by Justin Raimondo Every time I write about Barack Obama I get a lot of letters, and the most typical goes something like this: Dear Justin, I read your column regularly, and generally agree with what you have to say, but I think you've got Barack Obama all wrong. Yes, I know, he went before AIPAC and kowtowed; he pledged to do "anything – and I mean anything" to stop Iran's nuclear program. He acts "tough" and says he's going to invade Pakistan; he gets in Russia's face. But that's all a show: you see, he has to do this stuff or else he won't get elected. Once ...

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Just 5 days before the election, at 3a.m. on October 30th, all of the front windows of the Cindy Sheehan for Congress campaign offices were shattered. Although staffers had been in the office less than an hour earlier, no one was in the building at the time of the incident. No one was hurt and there were no witnesses. Cindy Sheehan is a candidate for Congress in California's 8th Congressional District race against incumbent Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). "It seems to have been a calculated intimidation tactic," said Tiffany Burns, the Cindy for Congress campaign manager. "One of our computers was stolen, but no other property was taken from ...

Ruling Set For Obama “Natural Born” Ohio Suit October 30th, 2008 An Ohio judge is set to rule Friday if a lawsuit disputing the “natural born” status of US Presidential candidate Barack Obama is valid. The suit, filed by political blogger David M. Neal, is one of eight lawsuits similar to one filed by Philadelphia attorney Philip J. Berg last August. That suit was dissmissed after some questionable legal procedures regarding time frames. Berg is preparing for an appeal to the Supreme Court. Barack Obama’s “Fight The Smears” website has confirmed that Obama was a Kenyan citizen until 1982. Hawaii governor Linda Lingle sealed access to Obama’s ...

a kid’ll eat the middle of an Oreo first, and save the chocolate cookie outside for last. So he can oppress it, or dunk it in milk as a show of power. The tiny white devil… **** I admit, this one left me nearly speechless. And given my studies of racialism and structural / critical race theory, that ain’t easy to do: Hans Bader informs us that Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree, “Obama’s top advisor on race issues, explains that since Obama is ‘biracial,’ his election won’t prove that racism has receded. White America won’t vote for blacks, Ogletree argues, and Obama’s election is possible only because he’s partly white.” ...

Democratic attorney Philip Berg had filed a lawsuit alleging Obama is ineligible to be president because of possible birth in Kenya, but as WND reported, a federal judge dismissed the complaint claiming Berg lacks standing to bring the action. Reality Check: The Cost Of Obama's Pledges

Without question, the Barack Obama infomercial served as a very slick and powerful recitation of the biggest promises he's made as a presidential candidate. But the very bigness of his ideas is the problem: he seems blind to the concept his numbers don't add up. Obama has already proposed a new stimulus package of $188 billion over two years. His tax cuts will cost $85 billion a year. His "army of new teachers": $18 billion; Renewable energy: $15 billion. CBS News and various independent experts estimate Obama's total first year spending could exceed $280 billion. Still Obama repeated his claim he can find the money to pay for every proposal. "I've offered ...

Erica Jong Tells Italians Obama Loss 'Will Spark the Second American Civil War. Blood Will Run in the Streets'

It seems that the final days of the presidential campaign have made Erica Jong and her friends more than a little anxious. A few days ago, Jong, the author and self-described feminist, gave an interview to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the choicest bits of which were brought to my attention by the reliably sharp-eyed Christian Rocca, the U.S. correspondent of Il Foglio, who published excerpts on his Camillo blog. Basically, Jong says her fear that Obama might lose the election has developed into an "obsession. A paralyzing terror. An anxious fever that keeps you awake at night." She also says that her friends Jane Fonda and Naomi Wolf are extremely worried that Obama ...

Obama's 2005 Daily Kos Post : Tone It Down , and Usher in a New Progressive Era

Barack Obama sent a letter to the Daily Kos which was posted back in 2005 to talk strategy and "change" to the Kossacks. Obama was very serious about toning down the rhetoric only until it was safe enough to "enforce a more clearly progressive agenda.” (h/t to Gateway Pundit for bringing this back through Sweetness and Light) (my emphasis added:) I thought this might be a good opportunity to offer some thoughts about not only judicial confirmations, but how to bring about meaningful change in this country. Maybe some of you believe I could have made my general point more artfully, but it’s precisely because many of these groups are friends and supporters that I ...

Would she not be featured bigtime in the mainstream media complete with new thrills running up Chris Matthews leg? Well, this did happen except that it was an Obama speechwriter, Wendy Button, who became disillusioned with The One and switched to supporting McCain. Here are the highlights of Wendy Button's explanation of why she made the switch: Since I started writing speeches more than ten years ago, I have always believed in the Democratic Party. Not ...

Berg, who filed suit in district court here in Philadelphia back on August 21 alleging that Barack Obama is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president of the United States, said that he hopes the Supreme Court will "do the right thing" by the United States Constitution and the American people and hear the case on its merits and, in so doing, avoid a ...
