BREAKING NEWS - Hanna to Make Landfall in Savannah on Thursday Night. Not Clear When McCain Will Do the Acceptance

Ahhh... McCain's women :))) Sarah, Hanna, Cindy... Gustav? But, I must admit, I'm a bit puzzled. Did all political activities stop during WW2? Weren't there election, party conventions, electoral campaigns while hundreds or thousands of Americans were dying on foreign lands? And, today... they stop the stupid GOP convention because of a strong wind? How wimpy is this?

Poll: Obama gets 'convention bounce' By Susan Page, USA TODAY ST. PAUL — The Democratic National Convention significantly boosted Americans' views of Barack Obama as a strong leader who "shares your values" and can manage the economy and Iraq, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Saturday and Sunday finds. Republican John McCain's advantage in handling terrorism was dramatically reduced and his "unfavorable" rating ticked up to its highest level this year. "This is a convention bounce," says Robert Eisinger, a political scientist at Lewis & Clark College and author of The Evolution of Presidential Polling. The results reflect the impact of ...

Aug. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Antoin ``Tony'' Rezko, the former fundraiser for Democratic Party presidential nominee Barack Obama who was convicted of fraud, was declared bankrupt by a judge and ordered to face creditors who say he owes at least $23.1 million. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Carol Doyle in Chicago denied a request by Rezko's lawyer to throw out the petition filed in May by three creditors. Doyle declared Rezko bankrupt under Chapter 7 of federal bankruptcy laws, where a trustee is appointed automatically to liquidate assets and pay creditors. ``The motion to dismiss the involuntary petition is denied,'' Doyle said in a hand-written one-page order on Aug. 26. She ...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans. During her first speech after being named as McCain's surprise pick as a running mate, Palin said she had told Congress "'thanks but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere." In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the ...

Impact of Gustav on convention frustrates McCain

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - His political celebration muted by Hurricane Gustav, nominee-in-waiting John McCain felt frustrated and could do little Monday but await the outcome of the storm before gauging its further impact on the Republican National Convention. Republicans canceled their prime-time program for the convention's first night and all daytime activities except those aimed at the formal business of nominating a president and vice president. Worried that a festive atmosphere would be incongruous with a potential calamity, McCain and GOP officials instead sought to show concern for those in Gustav's path. "This is an overwhelming thing. Let's hope and pray that ...

DOVER, Del. (AP) _ Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War, the same number of deferments received by Vice President Dick Cheney, and later was disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager. Officials with Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's campaign released Biden's Selective Service records at the request of The Associated Press. Less detailed records were available from a National Archives facility in Philadelphia. According to the documents, Biden, 65, received several deferments while he was an undergraduate at the University of Delaware and later as a law student at Syracuse ...

Update #2- One Woman's Eyewitness Account of Pregnant Palin
Post Date: 2008-08-31 12:41:37 by Horse

All the speculation on whether Governor Palin was pregnant is easily put to rest by the eyewitness account of Elizabeth Eubanks from April 29 of this year. Eubanks was in an airport in Fairbanks waiting for a flight when she unexpectedly saw Governor Palin in the airport also waiting for a flight. Eubanks reports that she found Palin to be a wonderful person. Of course I had to check out the “Hottest Governor in the US” and quickly turned to see her pregnant (she has since had her baby) with bags and daughter in tote. Then it struck me as odd. Why is the Governor of Alaska in the airport and preparing to get onto my commercial flight? Well, why WAS the Governor waiting for a ...

Bush Unlikely to Attend Opening of GOP Convention

DEVELOPING: The White House says it is unlikely that President Bush will attend the Republican National Convention on Monday as scheduled because of concerns about Hurricane Gustav, the White House said Sunday. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino says it is unlikely right now that Bush will go to Minnesota on Monday. She says alternate plans are being prepared. The convention schedule has the president set to speak late Monday night in St. Paul, Minn. on opening night. But those plans appear to be on hold because of the monster storm that could make landfall along the Gulf Coast as early as Monday. In addition, GOP presidential candidate John McCain, along with his wife, Cindy, and ...

DENVER--If you're a candidate for president during the 2012 primaries, you may want to watch how sharply you criticize your rivals. Your critiques may come back to haunt you on the Web. That's what the Republicans, at least, are hoping to demonstrate with their notready08.com site, which features clips of Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and John Edwards slamming Barack Obama last year and earlier this year for being inexperienced or over his voting record in Illinois. Other sections include a YouTube video listed as the "Temple of Obama" that shows the makings of Obama's stage tonight at the Invesco stadium here, where he's scheduled to accept the Democratic ...

Palin - Bachelors of Arts in Sports Journalism from Idaho. McCain - Bachelors from Naval Academy rank 5th from the bottom of his class of 800. Biden - BA University of Delaware in both History and Political Science. - Juris Doctor (JD) from Syracuse University College of Law. Obama - BA in International Relations form Columbia University. - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in 1991. (That’s top of his class at arguably the best school in the country/world.) While at Harvard he was also president of the Harvard Law Review.

Sarah Palin as his running mate - some 16 hours after Democrat Barack Obama's historic speech accepting his party’s presidential nomination - has possibly stunted any Obama convention bump, the latest Zogby Interactive flash poll of the race shows. The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden. In other words, the race ...

Just heard that on the TV. Anything for votes. But... it's fine, I guess. They don't do nothing at conventions anyway and the wind is coming just in time on Monday so maybe few people catch W talking. I can imagine a conf call with Rove and Scooter and Cheney, trying to figure out how to turn the wind to their advantage.

McCain's VP Pick Palin Facing Ethics Investigation

For most of her tenure as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has enjoyed widespread popularity and a reputation as a maverick who refused to stand by fellow Alaska Republicans facing their own ethics scandals. But the 44-year-old Palin, who was selected as Sen. John McCain's running mate today, is now the focus of her own state ethics investigation as part of the so-called "Troopergate" scandal, a bizarre controversy involving the firing of a state police chief and his reluctance to fire an Alaska state trooper, Palin's former brother-in-law who has been involved in a bitter custody fight with her younger sister. Just two weeks ago, Palin revealed an audio recording of an ...

McCain's choice for Veep of the young lady governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, seems, initially, like a good way out of the box of Romney (who would make a decent President but a poor VP candidate) vs. Lieberman. As I always say, there are 300,000,000 million people in this country, more than a few of whom would do better than the usual suspects. Of course, I'm just trying to wave my hands around here without looking too idiotic, because I have only the dimmest idea who Sara Palin is.Having now read her Wikipedia article, she certainly sounds energetic. Although, with five kids, she may have a little too much on her plate, even for somebody who appears to be a force of nature. ...

McCain’s ‘Hail Sarah’ Pass His choice for veep is all but set up for failure in the fall. Happy birthday, Johnny Mac! You're 72 now, a cancer survivor, and a presidential candidate who has said on many occasions that the most important criteria for picking a vice president is whether he or she could immediately step in if something happened to the president. Your campaign against Barack Obama is based on the simple idea that he is unready to be president. So you've picked a running mate who a year and a half ago was the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of 8,500 people. You've selected a potential leader of the free world who knows little or nothing about the ...

Palin on Israel [Updated]...SHE SUPPORTED BUCHANAN IN 2000

Jewish Democrats have started to hit Sarah Palin hard for her association with former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, which seems to have amounted to her being seen wearing a Buchanan button in 1996. Here's Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida: John McCain's decision to select a vice presidential running mate that endorsed Pat Buchanan for president in 2000 is a direct affront to all Jewish Americans. Pat Buchanan is a Nazi sympathizer with a uniquely atrocious record on Israel, even going as far as to denounce bringing former Nazi soldiers to justice and praising Adolf Hitler for his "great courage." At a time when standing up for Israel's right to self-defense has ...

What with the Bush legacy of reckless war and economic mismanagement, 2008 is a year that favors the generic Democratic candidate over the generic Republican one. Yet Barack Obama, with every natural and structural advantage in the presidential race, is running only neck-and-neck against John McCain, a sub-par Republican nominee with a list of liabilities longer than a Joe Biden monologue. Obama has built a crack political operation, raised record sums, and inspired millions with his eloquence and vision. McCain has struggled with a fractious campaign team, lacks clarity and discipline, and remains a stranger to charisma. Yet at the moment, the two of them appear to be tied. What gives? If ...

DENVER (JTA) -- John McCain's campaign has walked a fine line between upholding the values of the GOP base that still reveres George W. Bush, while repudiating the legacy of the most unpopular president in modern history. In at least one area, however, there's no ambivalence: When it comes Font size: to Israel and how to deal with Iran, Republicans are happy to tout the Arizona senator's consistency with the Bush presidency and his differences with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), his Democratic rival. At next week's GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn., expect McCain and his top surrogates, including lapsed Democrat Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and former New York City Mayor ...

Bob Barr Wins Texas! Written by Dave Nalle Published August 28, 2008 In a surprising development, it appears that scrappy little Libertarian Party candidate Bob Barr may have essentially won the presidential election in Texas by default. It seems that the two major parties failed to file their candidate selections with the Secretary of State by the statutory deadline, with the result that by law they cannot appear on the ballot, even as write-ins. In a press release on Wednesday Barr's campaign manager, Russell Verney said: "Unless the state of Texas violates its own election laws, Congressman Barr will be the only presidential candidate on the ballot...Texas law makes no ...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's reputation as a crusading reformer after pushing through higher taxes on oil companies has been tarnished by revelations that members of her staff tried to have her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper. State lawmakers have launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin dismissed Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan last month because Monegan wouldn't fire a state trooper involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. She also is under fire from environmentalists for opposing the Bush administration's decision in May to list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered ...

John McCain's vice-presidential pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is an evangelical Protestant with a strong record of opposition to abortion and an openness to teaching creationism in the public schools. Palin is the mother of five children, one of whom was born with Down Syndrome. She learned that her son had Down Syndrome when she was four months pregnant, and she told the Associated Press in May that she never considered ending the pregnancy. "We've both been very vocal about being pro-life," she said in the AP interview. "We understand that every innocent life has wonderful potential." Palin also said of her son, whose name is Trig Paxon Van Palin, ...

I had the opportunity today to witness a historic event. I was at the Nutter Center in Dayton Ohio when John McCain announced his running mate to the world. He chose Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin. The place was packed. The crowd was enthusiastic. McCain was tied up in traffic on interstate 675 so he arrived a little late. There was rock music playing to warm up the crowd. When John Mccain came out the crowd gave him a very loud applause that lasted for about 5 minutes before he was able to speak. McCain spoke briefly before announcing that he had chosen a woman. He mentioned something about her being a union member, a mother, and some other things. The crowd grew enthusiastic as they knew ...
