McCain to Hillary supporters: I voted to confirm Ginsburg and Breyer, you know Post Date: 2008-06-16 15:46:08 by Rotara

Kaus expects nothing less than a full-blown conservosphere freak-out over this. Im underwhelmed. After his public conference call with Clinton supporters (covered extensively by Jonathan Martin) Saturday, John McCain met privately with some 75 of those supporters at his Virginia headquarters, two people who were there said
He stayed for a good almost half hour afterwards shaking hands, listening to our concerns, talking to us, said [Party Unity My Ass] founder Will Bower, who said he thought many of the people there would vote for McCain
Bower said hed liked McCains answer on judges, in which he pointed out that he supported Bill Clinton ...
McCain, Obama Differ on Approach to Judicial Nominees Post Date: 2008-06-16 12:32:47 by Jethro Tull

(CNSNews.com) - The records of Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.) are very different when it comes to judges and courts. The Republican and Democratic candidates for president are far apart when it comes to judicial philosophy and the votes they cast on major judicial nominations during the 109th and 110th Congresses. McCain wants to appoint judges who hold a constructionist interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, according to his campaign's Web site. "When applying the law, the role of judges is not to impose their own view as to the best policy choices for society but to faithfully and accurately determine the policy choices already made by the people and ...

The pundits agree that this election is all about "change," so naturally we have two presidential nominees who present identical positions on the major foreign policy issue of the day: the looming prospect of the U.S. launching a "preventive" war against Iran. Shmuel Rosner, the U.S. correspondent for Ha'aretz, notes: "The Washington Institute for Near East Policy has just published the final version of a report by the Task Force on the Future of U.S.-Israel relations. The title is appealing: How to Deepen U.S.-Israel Cooperation on the Iranian Nuclear Challenge. But no less appealing is the list of people endorsing this report: Tony Lake and Susan Rice of the ...

McCain ad asserts his hatred of war (does he think anyone is going to buy it?) Post Date: 2008-06-15 19:48:24 by christine

WASHINGTON - John McCain, who credits his defiant defense of the Iraq war for his comeback victory in the Republican primaries, is using his first major television ad of the general election to show his dovish side. "Only a fool or a fraud talks tough or romantically about war," McCain says over mournful strings against a bleak backdrop, including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. "I hate war, and I know how terrible its costs are." It is a far different tone than McCain took during the primaries, when he launched a "No Surrender" tour to highlight his involvement in the Bush administration's "surge" strategy in Iraq. A high-profile ad then used ...
Advice for Obama - Pick Jim Webb for Vice President Post Date: 2008-06-15 14:02:14 by Arator

Advice for Obama by Fred Reed Barack, listen up. This election thing is important. If you dont win this fall, the US will be in the hands of a borderline-senile headcase who thinks we need more wars. The country cant afford another eight years under an escapee from a psych ward. Which is why you ought to think about Jim Webb as veep. No, you didnt ask my advice (doubtless an oversight) and he didnt authorize me to nominate him. I dont know whether he wants the job. However, I am a citizen, and believe I have the right to inflict the vice-presidency on anyone. Now, why Webb? Think about it. Youre a black guy running for president. Obviously race ...
Malik Obama confirms his half-brother Barack grew up a Muslim [Full Thread] Post Date: 2008-06-15 12:07:38 by Horse

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt -- contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given. As the Jerusalem Post reports, "Barack Obama's half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya." The Obama brothers' father, a senior economist for the Kenyan government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in 1982. He ...
Many historians see little chance for McCain Post Date: 2008-06-15 10:08:43 by christine

One week into the general election, the polls show a dead heat. But many presidential scholars doubt that John McCain stands much of a chance, if any. Historians belonging to both parties offered a litany of historical comparisons that give little hope to the Republican. Several saw Barack Obamas prospects as the most promising for a Democrat since Roosevelt trounced Hoover in 1932. This should be an overwhelming Democratic victory, said Allan Lichtman, an American University presidential historian who ran in a Maryland Democratic senatorial primary in 2006. Lichtman, whose forecasting model has correctly predicted the last six presidential popular vote winners, ...

While most political prognosticators in the mainstream press presume that Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, they still wonder aloud if Hillary Clinton (or some other entity) has something up their sleeve.
The bombshell may involve the murder of Donald Young, a 47-year-old choir master at former Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ—the same ...
BLACK CONSERVATIVES CONFLICTED ON OBAMA CAMPAIGN Post Date: 2008-06-14 12:16:04 by rowdee

WASHINGTON (AP) - Black conservative talk show host Armstrong Williams has never voted for a Democrat for president. That could change this year with Barack Obama as the Democratic Party's nominee. "I don't necessarily like his policies; I don't like much that he advocates, but for the first time in my life, history thrusts me to really seriously think about it," Williams said. "I can honestly say I have no idea who I'm going to pull that lever for in November. And to me, that's incredible." Just as Obama has touched black Democratic voters, he has engendered conflicting emotions among black Republicans. They revel over the possibility of a black ...

THE ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE Powell tells B.C. crowd he might vote for Obama IAN BAILEY June 13, 2008 VANCOUVER -- Colin Powell, the former Republican secretary of state, says he is not ruling out a vote for Barack Obama, the presumed Democratic nominee for president. While Mr. Powell served in the administrations of two Republican presidents, he suggested yesterday his support for presumed Republican nominee John McCain is not a forgone conclusion. He noted that although both he and Mr. Obama are black, he would not cast a vote for the Illinois senator on the basis of race. "I will vote for the individual I think that brings the best set of tools to the problems of 21st-century ...

In 1941, the editor Edward Dowling wrote: "The two greatest obstacles to democracy in the United States are, first, the widespread delusion among the poor that we have a democracy, and second, the chronic terror among the rich, lest we get it." What has changed? The terror of the rich is greater than ever, and the poor have passed on their delusion to those who believe that when George W Bush finally steps down next January, his numerous threats to the rest of humanity will diminish. The nomination of Barack Obama, which, according to one breathless commentator, "marks a truly exciting and historic moment in US history", is a product of the new delusion. Actually, it ...

Obama's Abortion Bombshell: Unrestricted Abortion Over Wishes of Individual States a Priority for Presidency Post Date: 2008-06-13 11:32:21 by christine

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Barack Obama, the presumptive pro-abortion nominee of the Democratic Party, has plans to reward the allies that helped him topple Hillary Clinton from her throne by making total unrestricted abortion in the United States his number one priority as president. In light of Obama's recently achieved status as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Focus on the Family's CitizenLink has decided to remind its supporters that almost one year has passed since Obama made his vows to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that abortion would be the first priority of his administration. "The first thing I'd do as president is ...

Barack Obama: Part of the reason we got a current mortgage crisis has to do with the fact that people got suckered in to loans that they could not pay, he told a crowd in Reading, Pa., last week. There were a lot of predatory loans that were given out, a lot of teaser rates. Banks and financial institutions making these loans were making money hand over fist. The media firestorm this week directed at Barack Obamas manager of his vice presidential search team prompted the swift resignation of Jim Johnson for allegedly receiving favorable rates from Countrywide Home Loans. He received kickbacks in the form of great mortgages and lax underwriting ...

Michelle Obama becomes GOP target Carrie Budoff Brown
Thu Jun 12, 6:02 PM ET
It’s less than a week into the general election campaign, but already Michelle Obama is a Republican target.

Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger leveled the first blow, introducing Republican John McCain’s wife at a fundraiser this week as someone who is “proud of her country, not just once but always.” Obama wasn’t mentioned by name, but the audience got it.
The dig signaled the start of what Democrats expect will be a concerted effort to cast Michelle Obama — and, by extension, Barack Obama — as an unpatriotic radical. It also pointed out the urgency to ...
German Newspaper Slammed for Racist Cover (Obama) Post Date: 2008-06-12 20:05:23 by X-15

The German newspaper Die Tageszeitung has a reputation for leftist social sensitivity. All the more bizarre then was its choice of a cover to mark Obama's victory in the race for the Democratic Party nomination: a photo of the White House under the headline "Uncle Barack's Cabin." The Berlin-based daily Die Tageszeitung is normally considered a bastion of political correctness. The paper, which was founded in 1978, has always seen itself as a left-leaning alternative to the mainstream press and is known for its outspoken positions on issues such as globalization, the environment and xenophobia in Germany. Hence readers were all the more surprised to see on the cover ...
Why is John McCain getting $58,000 a year in disability income?? Post Date: 2008-06-12 19:59:36 by X-15

First off, I find it fascinating that John McCain, who is refusing to vote for the GI Bill for our troops because "it's too generous," is himself getting $58,000 a year, tax-free, from the US government for his military service. Had McCain been getting that amount every year since Vietnam, that would total $2,000,000 for the man who isn't into overgenerous government. I just find that interesting. His staff responded with the classic "he was tortured for his country." Yeah, we get it. The torture card. It's to McCain what 9/11 was to Giuliani's candidacy - the never-ending name-drop. Though what McCain's staff actually said was downright, um, ...

Make No Mistake: McCains a Neocon Robert Parry Consortium News June 9, 2008 Since clinching the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain has sought to hide the forest of his neoconservative alignment with George W. Bush amid the trees of details, such as stressing differences over military tactics used in Iraq. But the larger reality should be clear: McCain is a hard-line neoconservative who buys into Bushs preemptive war theories abroad and his concept of an all-powerful unitary executive at home. From McCains pre-Iraq invasion speeches to his campaigns recent embrace of Bushs imperial presidency, American voters should ...

New Gang of 14 wont back McCain By Kristen Coulter and Bob Cusack Posted: 06/11/08 07:48 PM [ET] At least 14 Republican members of Congress have refused to endorse or publicly support Sen. John McCain for president, and more than a dozen others declined to answer whether they back the Arizona senator. Many of the recalcitrant GOP members declined to detail their reasons for withholding support, but Rep. John Peterson (R-Pa.) expressed major concerns about McCains energy policies and Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) cited the Iraq war. A handful of other Republicans on Capitol Hill made the distinction between endorsing and supporting, adding that while ...

Is Obama's candidacy constitutional? Secrecy over birth certificate, demand for 'natural-born' citizenship cited Post Date: 2008-06-12 11:38:07 by christine

Bloggers are raising questions about Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's qualifications to be U.S. president, because of the secrecy over his birth certificate and the requirement presidents be "natural-born" U.S. citizens. Jim Geraghty, reporting on the Campaign Spot, a National Review blog, cited the "unlikely" but still circulating rumor that Obama was born not within the United States, but elsewhere, possibly Kenya. Geraghty defined the concerns most clearly, stating: "If Obama were born outside the United States, one could argue that he would not meet the legal definition of natural-born citizen
because U.S. law at the time of his birth required his ...

NEW YORK: It's unusual. But, it's a fact. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic party's presidential nominee, is seeking the blessings of Hanuman in his battle for the White House. The 46-year-old senator from Illinois, who defeated his rival Hillary Clinton in an epic 17-month long electoral battle for Democratic party nomination, carries a "tiny monkey god" apparently representing "Hanuman" with him for good luck.
