McCain Continues Portraying Obama As Favorite Of Hamas Post Date: 2008-05-10 03:24:53 by RickyJ

In the clearest indication yet of how he intends to confront Sen. Barack Obama on foreign policy issues in the general election, Sen. John McCain on Friday again portrayed the Democratic contender as being the favorite of Hamas, the militant Palestinian group, and implied that he would also be friendly with Iran, a Hamas ally. Speaking at a news conference in New Jersey, McCain said he believed that comments made by a Hamas leader approving Obama's candidacy were "a legitimate point of discussion," and he went on to accuse Obama of agreeing to negotiate with the president of Iran, who Wednesday referred to Israel as "a stinking corpse facing annihilation." He ...

To the question of the moment--What did Barack Obama know and when did he know it?--I answer, Obama knew everything, and he's known it for ages. Far from succumbing to surprise and shock after Jeremiah Wright's disastrous performance at the National Press Club, Barack Obama must have long been aware of his pastor's political radicalism. A careful reading of nearly a year's worth of Trumpet Newsmagazine, Wright's glossy national "lifestyle magazine for the socially conscious," makes it next to impossible to conclude otherwise. Wright founded Trumpet Newsmagazine in 1982 as a "church newspaper"--primarily for his own congregation, one gathers--to ...

Analysis: 'Hillary Democrats' could be up for grabs Post Date: 2008-05-09 18:25:40 by Ferret Mike

WASHINGTON -- With the racially tinged Democratic race drawing to an awkward close, Barack Obama and John McCain face the challenge of winning over "Hillary Democrats" - the white, working-class voters who favored the former first lady over Obama's historic candidacy. Obama and McCain clearly have set their sights on each other, a recognition of the long odds Clinton faces in trying to capture the Democratic presidential nomination. The McCain campaign figures some of her supporters might be up for grabs and won't necessarily vote Democratic in the general election in November. "I've been saying for a year that you never count a Clinton out, but now people are ...
Obama Adviser Leaves Campaign After Speaking With Hamas Post Date: 2008-05-09 18:22:05 by RickyJ

A Middle East policy adviser for Barack Obama has left the campaign after acknowledging having held talks with Hamas, FOX News confirms. The Times newspaper in London first reported Friday that the campaign was severing ties with the adviser, Robert Malley. Malley said he had been in contact with the Palestinian group, but only through his work for a conflict resolution think tank, and not on behalf of the Obama campaign, the newspaper reported. Obama spokesman Bill Burton told FOX News Malley was an ancillary adviser who never met with Obama, literally one of hundreds of informal advisers who from time to time offered advice on Middle East policy. Another Obama ...
Poll shows Clinton with big lead in West Virginia Post Date: 2008-05-09 17:43:34 by RickyJ

Even as she faces pressure from some to call her White House bid quits, Hillary Clinton holds a commanding lead in West Virginia, according to a new poll released Friday. Clinton has a 43-point advantage over Obama, 66 percent to 23 percent, according to a new survey from the American Research Group. The poll was conducted entirely after Tuesday's primary results, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The poll suggests Clintons white, working class base seems to be holding firm for her at least in West Virginia, where that demographic makes up a substantial portion of the Democratic electorate. West Virginia, one of the six contests left in ...

Down But Not Out, Clinton Stays Steady On the Trail By Aaron Bruns PORTLAND, Ore Despite limited resources, impossible delegate math, and a ticking clock working against her, Hillary Clintons first few public events after a big loss in North Carolina and too-narrow victory in Indiana on Tuesday have shown very little to suggest that shes changed her strategy or approach going forward. In the wake of that poor performance, some pundits suggested that Clinton would cease and desist in attacking her Democratic rival Barack Obama to pave the way for a graceful exit and possibly curry favor for a joint ticket. Indeed, in her remarks in Shepherdstown, WV on Wednesday, there ...
Obama Unlikely to Pick Clinton as Running Mate, Kennedy Says Post Date: 2008-05-09 16:26:40 by christine

May 9 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama isn't likely to pick rival Hillary Clinton as a running mate, according to one of his most prominent supporters. ADVERTISEMENT ``I don't think it's possible,'' Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy said in an interview on Bloomberg Television's ``Political Capital With Al Hunt,'' airing this weekend. Kennedy, 76, without naming names, said Obama should pick someone who ``is in tune with his appeal for the nobler aspirations of the American people.'' ``If we had real leadership -- as we do with Barack Obama -- in the No. 2 spot as well, it'd be enormously helpful,'' ...

Elite opinion on the Democratic race has congealed around the idea that it is over. Clinton has no chance whatsoever to win the nomination now. There is a minority of analysts out there - maybe 5%, maybe even less - who see her path to the nomination as much narrower than it was four days ago, but who still see a path. I'm with the minority on this one. I think she is nearly finished, but not quite yet. As those who know me in personal life can attest, I am a contrarian. For better or worse, when I see everybody looking right, the first thought in my head is, "What's over there on the left?" So, the following might just be a product of my contrarian instincts, but I have ...

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll Friday, May 09, 2008 Rasmussen Reports has been tracking the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination daily for nineteen months
since November 2006. For the last few months, the most remarkable feature of the race has been its consistency and stability. Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are both running historic campaigns and both have captured the votes and hearts of distinct and important constituencies within the Democratic Party. Obama has won Primaries in states where the demographics favor his campaign and Clinton has won in the states that favor her campaign. However, while Senator Clinton has remained close and competitive in ...

I'm getting e-mails about this, too, and there obviously is some kind of campaign out there to have oil discussed. You know, the story out there past couple of days is "experts" say that the barrel price of oil will soon hit $200 -- and this is roiling the markets, they say. Now, I want you to stop and think about something, folks. If $200-a-barrel oil leads to the pump price of $10 a gallon at the gasoline pump, let me just ask you a simple question. Will the market support that? Will it? Are you asking yourself at this point in ...

WASHINGTON - The movement of Democratic superdelegates to presidential hopeful Barack Obama gained steam Friday with endorsements from a union president and two congressmen, including one who switched his backing from rival Hillary Rodham Clinton. Obama has now climbed within a handful of superdelegates of catching Clinton in endorsements from the party and elected officials who will ultimately decide the nomination. With the three new superdelegate endorsements, the superdelegate count is Clinton, 271.5 and Obama, 266. Obama also picked up the endorsement of the influential American Federation of Government Employees union on Friday. "Our people, I think, recognize the enthusiasm and ...
John McCain backed a land swap that would benefit donor Post Date: 2008-05-09 10:53:12 by FOH

PRESCOTT, ARIZ. -- Sen. John McCain championed legislation that will let an Arizona rancher trade remote grassland and ponderosa pine forest here for acres of valuable federally owned property that is ready for development, a land swap that now stands to directly benefit one of his top presidential campaign fundraisers. Initially reluctant to support the swap, the Arizona Republican became a key figure in pushing the deal through Congress after the rancher and his partners hired lobbyists that included McCain's 1992 Senate campaign manager, two of his former Senate staff members (one of whom has returned as his chief of staff), and an Arizona insider who was a major McCain donor and is ...

Too Late to the Duck Hunt - A Farewell to Hillary [Dr. Kaka has a pretty good summary of Hill's campaign] Post Date: 2008-05-09 07:56:18 by a vast rightwing conspirator

Too Late to the Duck Hunt - A Farewell to Hillary By Charles Krauthammer Friday, May 9, 2008; Page A27 By the time Hillary Clinton figured out how to beat Barack Obama, it was too late. When she began the race in 2007 thinking she was in for a coronation, she claimed the center in order to position herself for the real fight, the general election. She simply assumed the party activists and loony left would fall in behind her. However, as Obama began to rise, powered by the party's Net-roots activists, she scurried left, particularly with her progressively more explicit renunciation of the Iraq war. It was a fool's errand. She would never be able to erase the stain of her original ...

The presidential races punch-drunk prizefighters are staggering into Oregon, where both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will bring markedly different aspirations to their campaign appearances. Obama, fresh off a big win in North Carolina and a near draw in Indiana, is coming Friday and Saturday to Oregon, a state that can deliver him the majority in the total of available pledged Democratic delegates. That will happen on the night of May 20, said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, referring to the primary election date of both Oregon and Kentucky. Speaking with reporters on a conference call, he said it will be an incredibly important moment in the campaign ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama on Thursday did not rule out selecting rival Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential running mate if he ultimately defeats her in a race in which he has an almost insurmountable lead. "There's no doubt that she's qualified to be vice president, there's no doubt she's qualified to be president," Obama told NBC News. In a CNN interview, he said he had not wrapped up the Democratic presidential nomination, but when he does, he will start going through the process of selecting a running mate. "She is tireless, she is smart. She is capable. And so obviously she'd be on anybody's short list to be a potential ...

But I would like to highlight two particular aspects of the post. First is Silber's succinct description of the "corporate-authoritarian political system" that confronts us at every turn with its soul-crushing, death-dealing power: This system encompasses every area of our national life....The military-industrial complex -- or what is now often more accurately described as ...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Memo to those writing political obituaries for Hillary Clinton: She ain't done yet. Clinton sought to drive home that message to hundreds of cheering supporters at a rally here today, contending West Virginia will muzzle the pundits by giving her a resounding win on Tuesday over Barack Obama, whose victory Tuesday in North Carolina and strong showing in Indiana moved him closer to clinching the Democratic presidential nomination. "I know that according to the polls, I'm doing well here. But I want to do really well," Clinton said. "Some people call you swing voters, I call you hard-working Americans." She said she is best able to defeat ...

Poster Comment:This is a funny 30 second anti-Pelosi ad that was even played as a news story on the news locally in SF. Shirley Golub's campaign is for the Democratic nomination. Cindy Sheehan is trying to file for the November election from the best I understand with little info turning up in my Google search. This means they will not run against each other unless Shirley wins the primary. Shirley is supported by ACT BLUE. http://actblue.com/ Cindy should be on the ballot in November which I think will be after the attack against Iran happens. THAT will make for an interesting election.
