Secret Service Halts Obama security in Dallas by la urracca [Subscribe] Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 01:18:34 PM PST I find this terrifying... Evidently, the Secret Service in Dallas gave an order to stop screening for weapons, an hour before Obama took the stage. This was supposedly in order to "expedite" moving the crowd. More below... Stop screening for weapons? In Dallas? Several of the police officers present were very concerned, but did not feel that they could comment because the order came from a Federal agency. The Dallas Deputy Police Chief said, " It seemed a friendly crowd.." From another source: "Apparently the Secret Service was overwhelmed by the ...

WASHINGTON: Barack Obama won the Democrats Abroad global primary in results announced Thursday, giving him 11 straight victories in the race for the U.S. Democratic presidential nomination. The senator won the primary in which Democrats living in other countries voted by Internet, mail and in person, according to results released by the Democrats Abroad, an organization sanctioned by the national party. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has not won a nominating contest in more than two weeks. More than 20,000 U.S. citizens living abroad voted in the primary, which ran from Feb. 5 to Feb. 12. Obama won about 65 percent of the vote, according to the results released Thursday. Voters living in ...

John McCain (R-AZ) and 40-year-old Washington lobbyist Vicki Iseman. Last night, two Times staffers told Politico the second lead reporter on the Times story, Marilyn Thompson, announced she was leaving her job at the Times Feb. 12 after concerns the piece had not yet run. Thompson said she was returning to the Washington Post. "Rumors had circulated ...
OBAMA'S COMMUNIST MENTOR Post Date: 2008-02-21 10:12:51 by christine

In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obamas life as a secret smoker and how he went to great lengths to conceal the habit. But what about Obamas secret political life? It turns out that Obamas childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist. In his books, Obama admits attending socialist conferences and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a hard-core academic Marxist, which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes. However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone ...

John McCains campaign promised to go to war against the New York Times Wednesday night after the newspaper posted its long-awaited story on McCain's alleged relationship with a telecom lobbyist. Both McCain and the woman in question denied having a romantic relationship. The story, word of which first leaked to the Drudge Report in December, relies on anonymous sources tied to McCain who said the lobbyist was warned to keep her distance to the senator in the run-up to his first presidential bid. Do Elections Guarantee Freedom? Post Date: 2008-02-21 06:46:23 by Ada

Elections are sometimes portrayed as practically giving people automatic remote control on the government. Elections kindly provide a chance for people to pre-program the government for the following years. The government will be based on the popular will, regardless of the ignorance of the populace or the duplicity of the government. President Lyndon Johnson declared in 1965 that the vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men. But the fact that voting rights helped undermine Jim Crow restrictions on blacks did not prevent the ...

More pictures available here Burnt Orange Report: Early voting starts today in Texas. In Waller County, a primarily rural county about 60 miles outside Houston, the county made the decision to offer only one early voting location: at the County Courthouse in Hempstead, TX, the county seat. Prairie View A&M students organized to protest the decision, because they felt it hindered their ability to vote. For background, Prairie View A&M is one of Texas historically Black universities. It has a very different demographic feel than the rest of the county. There has been a long history of dispute over what the students feel is disenfranchisement. There was a lot of outrage in 200 ...

"Obviously, it is a matter I take very seriously," said McClintock, confirming he is looking at entering the race. He added: "I'll have more to say about this in the future. But at the moment, I'm simply listening to people in the district." In an interview at the state Capitol, McClintock said he is uncertain when he will decide, but said it won't ...
Clinton, (McCain) Obama bank major donations from Abramoff's former law firm (in that order) Post Date: 2008-02-20 21:19:57 by robin

Clinton, Obama bank major donations from Abramoff's former law firm02/20/2008 @ 12:34 pm Filed by Michael Roston Jack Abramoff has been the specter haunting Republican politicians for a few years now. The disgraced GOP lobbyist, who pled guilty in 2006 on fraud and corruption charges, burrowed his way deep into Washington, DC's political elite, leading to the convictions of top Bush administration officials and contributing to 2006's electoral calamity for the Republican Party. Abramoff's fall also encouraged Democrats to reposition themselves as the party of clean government. But in 2008, it might be harder for the Democratic presidential nominee to make the same case ...

For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk
By JIM RUTENBERG, MARILYN W. THOMPSON, DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and STEPHEN LABATON
WASHINGTON — Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people ...

February 20, 2008 After Wins, Obama Is Focus of McCain and Clinton By JOHN SULLIVAN The Democratic contenders are scheduled to appear at rallies on Wednesday in Texas, which has emerged as a critical race for the campaign of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. With Senator Barack Obama having won primaries in Wisconsin and Hawaii on Tuesday by broad margins across nearly every voter group, Mrs. Clinton has now lost 10 contests in a row since splitting votes and delegates with him on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5. Mrs. Clintons aides have calculated that she must win the partys next two major contests, in Texas and Ohio, on March 4. Senator John McCain, all but assured of the Republican ...

Clinton targets pledged delegates By: Roger Simon Feb 19, 2008 05:48 AM EST Hillary Clintons presidential campaign intends to go after delegates whom Barack Obama has already won in the caucuses and primaries if she needs them to win the nomination. This strategy was confirmed to me by a high-ranking Clinton official on Monday. And I am not talking about superdelegates, those 795 party big shots who are not pledged to anybody. I am talking about getting pledged delegates to switch sides. What? Isnt that impossible? A pledged delegate is pledged to a particular candidate and cannot switch, right? Wrong. Pledged delegates are not really pledged at all, not even on the ...

McCain Makes No-New-Taxes Pledge By Terence P. Jeffrey CNSNews.com Editor in Chief February 18, 2008 (CNSNews.com) - Sen. John McCain pledged Sunday on national television not to raise taxes under any circumstances if he is elected president. "So on taxes, are you a 'read my lips' candidate, no new taxes, no matter what," host George Stephanopoulos asked the Arizona Republican on ABC's "This Week." "No new taxes," McCain affirmed, before making an argument that taxes ought to be cut if the economy deteriorates. "But under circumstances would you increase taxes?" Stephanopoulos asked in a follow-up question. "No," said ...

In election 2008, dont forget Angry White Man Gary Hubbell February 9, 2008 There is a great amount of interest in this years presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates a woman and an African-American while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their partys nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain. Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical ...

It's About to Get Real Ugly By Armstrong Williams Monday, February 18, 2008 Before the primary season began the Democratic Party reached an agreement with its potential presidential candidates that they would not campaign in Florida or Michigan and that the delegates from those states would be meaningless. All the candidates agreed, which in effect, made the Florida and Michigan primaries moot because none of the delegates could be used by the candidates vying for the nomination. The Clinton campaign was the main advocate for this ban because at the time they felt they were invincible and would have little competition from the field. A few months later Super Tuesday ...
