Huckabee Wins WV Convention by MissLaura Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 11:47:19 AM PST West Virginia (30 Delegates) Closed Caucus Results Huckabee 567 52% Romney 521 47% McCain 12 1% West Virginia Republicans have one of these totally screwed-up systems for determining how delegates will be allotted: 18 of 30 delegates are being determined today at a convention. The winner? Mike Huckabee, with 52%. After the first vote, Mitt Romney led with 41% to Huckabee's 33%, but on the second, Romney was only able to get up to 47%. Marc Ambinder has one explanation for that: But sources say that representatives for John McCain called many of his reps in WV and asked them to vote for Huckabee...in ...
Problems crop up early in Super Tuesday voting Post Date: 2008-02-05 14:13:14 by robin

As voters head to the polls from coast to coast Tuesday, early reports indicate that more than a few have been unable to cast ballots because of malfunctioning machines and inadequate backup plans, while more problems could crop up throughout the day. New Jersey Gov. John Corzine was one of more than a dozen voters delayed or turned away from a polling place in Hoboken, NJ, one of 24 states holding primaries or caucuses Tuesday. The Democratic governor was scheduled at his polling place around 6:15 a.m., but the two voting machines there did not work right away and a dozen or so voters were unable to cast ballots. Poll workers spent 45 minutes trying to fix the machine, and Corzine was ...

Thats right, you read the title to this piece correctly. I am admitting that I am a RINO. I admit it openly, freely, with relish even. For those unfamiliar, RINO is not only shorthand for rhinoceros, that great beast of the African plains, but it is also an acronym. It stands for, Republican In Name Only RINO. Now, I am not going to pull a fast one here and spell RINO out with other words. No, Im happily sticking right with the words Republican In Name Only. So, there it is. I am a RINO. Some of you reading this may already be feeling your stomach curdle at the very mention of the word RINO. After all, its really gotten some bad press. Rush ...

PHOENIX Maverick presidential candidate Ron Paul rode a national wave of Internet fundraising to collect more money in Arizona last quarter than any candidate except John McCain, according to Federal Election Commission data. The 10-term U.S. representative from Texas raised $307,000 in Arizona from October through December, up from $68,000 the previous quarter. McCain, Arizona's senior senator, collected $407,000. Paul took in almost twice as much in the quarter as the next Republican candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Fred Solop, director of the Social Research Laboratory at Northern Arizona University, said Paul's jump in Arizona was connected to a national ...

The Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign cash, looks at the 2007 money-raising and finds the following: In 2007, the 2008 presidential candidates raised $582.5 million and spent $481.2 million. In the 4th quarter of 2007, individuals in the Army, Navy and Air Force made those branches of the armed services the No. 13, No. 18 and No. 21, contributing industries, respectively. War opponent Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, received the most from donors in the military, collecting at least $212,000 from them. Another war opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, was second with about $94,000. Soldiers love Ron and Barack, and lobbyists love Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, the No. 1 ...

Tomorrow night promises to be the most dramatic California Democratic presidential primary vote in...well, maybe ever. To say that the future of our country hangs in the balance probably isn't even hyperbole. And that's a good thing because otherwise we're looking at a fairly boring and inconsequential ballot, which the Guardian will covering live, as we have every election day since the birth of this whole Internet thing. That's right, we were "live blogging" before anyone invented that stupid term. But I digress. So check back here starting tomorrow evening as the numbers start rolling in from all the Super Fat Tuesday primaries. We'll have coverage from ...

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Put down the ballot and put on a mask. A leading costume supply company is selling masks of presidential candidates, the sales of which it says accurately predict actual voting results. BuyCostumes.com released its straw polls - and sales - for the primaries today, just one day ahead of the Super Tuesday elections being held in 22 states tomorrow. The Milwaukee-area company started selling the masks for 99 cents each last week. Each mask sale is tallied as one vote. As of late today, mask sales for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama were leading New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's masks 50% to 46% on the Democratic side. For Republican mask sales, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, ...

Hot Democratic Properties -- From Hillary's Whitewater Deal to Bill's Uranium Mine to Obama's Ba'athist Ties Post Date: 2008-02-04 13:15:05 by richard9151

02/02/08 "Counterpunch" -- -- Back in 1992 it was the Whitewater real estate deal that plagued the Clintons, though fortunately for them, Jeff Gerth's initial expose in the New York Times on March 8, 1992, was incomprehensible. Hillary Clinton and her lawyer Susan Thomases muddied the trail by maintaining falsely that Mrs Clinton's billing files--which would have disclosed her numerous conferences with Madison Guaranty --could not be located. If Hillary wins the nomination Republicans will once again plow through the vast acreage of questionable deals and evasive responses developed by the Clintons down the years, the latest ones, such as Bill's financial cavortings ...

The result: money is tighter, his staff is smaller and he can't seem to get the attention he once did. Still, he says he's sticking around for the long haul -- well past Tuesday's coast-to-coast primaries and caucuses if need be. How the Clintons Will Destroy McCain Post Date: 2008-02-03 17:56:20 by YertleTurtle

The number of fellow Senators who think John McCain is psychologically unstable is large. Some will admit it publicly, like Thad Cochran who says, "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine." Others relate times when McCain screamed four-letter obscenities right in their faces in the Senate cloak room, like Dick Shelby, Rick Santorum, or Jim Inhofe. "The man is unhinged," one Senator told me. "He is frighteningly unfit to be Commander-in-Chief." That John McCain is clinically nuts is scary enough. What worries a small group of GOP Senators and Congressmen even more is a deep and dark skeletal secret in McCain's glorified past to ...

Voters in 24 states will head to polls or caucuses Tuesday. More than 2,000 Democratic delegates, including unpledged "super delegates," are at stake in 22 states, representing 52% of all delegates who will attend the nominating convention later this year. And more than 1,000 Republican delegates are up for grabs in 21 states, or about 43% ...

I wonder how long it will take for people to begin to understand that insurance is all about the big companies profits, and not about your health. I really, really am curious; what will it take?! 22 minutes ago WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans. The New York senator has criticized presidential rival Barack Obama for pushing a health plan that would not require universal coverage. Clinton has not always specified the enforcement measures she would embrace, but when pressed on ABC's "This Week," she said: "I think there ...
NY Post’s Obama Endorsement All About Business Post Date: 2008-02-03 12:06:11 by Horse

The New York Post has surprised many readers with its unexpected endorsement of Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, saying he represents a fresh start. Rupert Murdochs Post also opined that Hillary Clinton and her husband stand for déjà vu all over again a return to the opportunistic, scandal-scarred, morally muddled years of the almost infinitely self-indulgent Clinton co-presidency. But the Obama endorsement was not about politics or Billary hating as much as it was about business, Charles Warner observes on The Huffington Post. Murdoch wants to use his newly acquired Wall Street Journal to challenge ...

Sun Feb 3, 4:36 AM ET WASHINGTON - When it comes to presidential primaries, Democrats and Republicans play by different rules. One party likes to share. The other, not so much. Which goes a long way toward explaining why Arizona Sen. John McCain hopes to take control of the race for the Republican presidential nomination in Super Tuesday's primaries and caucuses. And why the busiest primary day in history may merely intensify the contest between Democratic rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama. "The delegate selection process is designed to keep the campaign going for as long as possible" among Democrats, said Howard Wolfson, communications director for ...

State poll shows huge gains by Obama, McCain John Wildermuth,Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writers A startling surge of support for Barack Obama has catapulted the Illinois senator into a virtual tie with Hillary Rodham Clinton in California's Democratic presidential primary, a Field Poll released Saturday shows. Arizona Sen. John McCain lengthened his lead in the state Republican primary, grabbing a 32 to 24 percent edge among likely voters over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was at 13 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 10 percent. But the Democratic numbers are the shocker. Clinton, a longtime California favorite, saw her ...

Romney wins Maine Republican primary 10 hours ago NEW YORK (AFP) Presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney won Saturday's Republican primary election in the northeastern state of Maine, the Republican Party said. With 57 percent of votes counted, Romney took 52 percent, followed by the national frontrunner, Arizona Senator John McCain with 22 percent, Ron Paul with 19 percent and Mike Huckabee 5 percent. Although the Maine primary carries little weight in the national nominating contest, it does ...

www.rense.com/general80/strongs.htm Pulling Strings For Senator McCain By Joel Skousen World Affairs Brief 2-1-8 The US political circus is an amazing, if not agonizing, show to watch. First, we saw Rudy Giuliani, the establishment's pre-election favorite (only because the media said so) go from front runner status to a disastrous showing in the primaries--garnering less votes than Rep. Ron Paul, who was systematically denied any meaningful media coverage at all. It appears the public is either fickle or the media polls were just plain lying--perhaps both. Then we saw John McCain with almost no support suddenly rise to front runner status after a barrage of big name newspaper and ...

Sat Feb 2, 2:27 PM ET Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's endorsement of John McCain for president is a boon for McCain as long as the state's budget crisis is resolved peacefully. Should a partisan battle break out over the state's $14.5 billion budget deficit, Schwarzenegger could become a liability for McCain. While the presidential campaign whirls around them, governors who have made endorsements face tough decisions at home that could hurt residents, and that could diminish the value of those endorsements if voters take out their anger in November. Governors' loyalty to two masters may be tested as never before during the presidential campaign, especially in a year ...

Discussing reality, absent some improbable catastrophic discontinuity, one of these 4 is going to be replacing Bush in the WH: McCain, Romney, Hillary, Obama. Sadly, the only criterion other than 'gut feelings' that could be applied to favor one of the 4 is 'the lesser evil'. On the GOP side, the lesser evil is Romney. On the Demo side the lesser evil is Obama-mama. Between Romney and Obama... Obama is probably the lesser evil. Both Romney and Obama will find it more difficult to expand the Prez power, Romney because he's a Mormonist and Obama because he's a half-Black (African-American-American?) but it would probably be more difficult for Obama to abuse his ...
