WHERE ARE WE AFTER THE MICHIGAN PRIMARY AND JUST BEFORE SOUTH CAROLINA THIS WEEKEND? MITT ROMNEY WON IN MICHIGAN, PARTLY BECAUSE HE PROMISED A $20 BILLION AID PACKAGE FOR THE AUTO INDUSTRY. IS THAT WHAT A REPUBLICAN SHOULD DO BAILOUT A PRIVATE INDUSTRY RATHER THAN ENDORSE CAPITALISM, FREE ENTERPRISE AND ENCOURAGE DETROIT TO BUILD THE KINDS OF CARS PEOPLE WANT? YES, THE GOVERNMENT LOANED CHRYSLER MONEY, BUT THEY PAID IT BACK. BIG DIFFERENCE. MIKE HUCKABEE ALSO SOUNDS LIKE A BIG GOVERNMENT REPUBLICAN. THE ONLY ONE BEHAVING LIKE A REAL REPUBLICAN IS RON PAUL, WHO ACTUALLY WANTS TO CUT SPENDING AND GET GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR LIVES. HE WONT WIN THE NOMINATION BECAUSE TOO MANY ...

Julie Farby - AHN News Writer Washington, DC (AHN)-Several polls leading into Saturday's South Carolina Republican primary elections show Sen. John McCain enjoying a narrow lead over his rivals, including Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney. McCain, who lost South Carolina in 2000 to President Bush, is hoping this time around will prove to be different from the last election. A win for McCain would be a key boost to his campaign after narrow losses to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney in Iowa and Michigan, respectively. According to a new McClatchy-MSNBC poll, with 27% of the vote McCain holds a slim lead over his rival GOP candidates. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee trails McCain with ...

Amid troubling reports on election integrity, Dem introduces paper-ballot legislation 01/17/2008 @ 1:16 pm Filed by Diane Sweet As new reports are emerging about vote-counting problems and potential conflicts of interest regarding handling of ballots, a Democratic congressman has introduced new legislation that would make it easier for states to audit their election results. Rep. Rush Holt's bill was introduced the same day that Maryland voters learned the security of their electronic voting machines would be entrusted to a high-profile Republican operative, and as activists were documenting irregularities in last week's New Hampshire primary. Brad Friedman, who has been ...
Huckabee Embraces Confederate Flag To Woo White Evangelicals Post Date: 2008-01-18 13:37:38 by robin

Columbia, S. Car. -- The populist campaign of Mike Huckabee, seeking to mobilize an insurgency of white evangelicals against the Republican establishment, took an abrupt turn today after the former Arkansas governor directly appealed to voters on the issue of race, summoning his fellow candidates to stop calling for the removal of the Confederate flag from government offices. "You don't like people from outside the state coming in and telling you what to do with your flag. ... If somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we'd tell them what to do with the pole. That's what we'd do," he declared to applause at a campaign rally in Myrtle Beach ...

Romney's assertion about lobbyists and his presidential campaign was challenged by an Associated Press reporter Thursday. The blogosphere immediately lit up over the exchange. Speaking at a business supply store in Columbia, S.C., Romney was telling reporters, "I don't have lobbyists running my campaign. I don't have lobbyists that are tied to my - " when AP writer Glen Johnson interrupted. "That's not true," Johnson said. "Ron Kaufman's a lobbyist." Kaufman, chairman of communications firm Dutko Worldwide, is a frequent presence in the Romney campaign. "Did you hear what I said? Did you hear what I said, Glen?" Romney asked. ...
Nevada the center of attention as caucus nears Post Date: 2008-01-18 08:35:09 by angle

With Nevada's Republican and Democratic caucuses slated for Saturday, presidential candidates from both parties have been viewing Northern Nevada as a vital campaign stop. "It's action-packed," said Erik Herzik, chair of the department of political science at the University of Nevada, Reno. After coming in first in the New Hampshire primary and third in the Iowa caucus, Hillary Clinton's campaign is looking closely at Nevada, said campaign spokeswoman Hilarie Grey. "Nationally, we are looking at a tie-breaker," Grey said. "There is more interest in Nevada as one of the newer early states. It's very exciting for the state." Nevada caucus ...
(NH) Election officials shrug off criticisms of voting machines Post Date: 2008-01-18 08:24:30 by angle

Election officials shrug off criticisms of voting machines Even as questions about last week's primary results are causing volunteers to labor through huge numbers of recount ballots in Concord, it is the small number of test ballots counted long before the election that are giving local election officials confidence. "We get the memory cards. Then we physically mark the sample ballots here, before we do the test. Nobody has any way of knowing how we were going to mark them. I can't even fathom how anybody could somehow change them," said Diane Trippett, Merrimack town clerk. "I'm not concerned at all," said Nashua City Clerk Paul Bergeron. Such ...
Huge New Diebold Disparities Found in Manchester, Ward 5 During NH Hand Counts Post Date: 2008-01-18 06:52:49 by Ada

Scores of Votes Mistallied for Every Democratic Candidate... As mentioned last night, in this disturbing article, the early results of the hand counts of one Diebold precinct in Dennis Kucinich's election contest in New Hampshire are now being posted, as they come in, at this New Hampshire SoS page. As mentioned earlier today, NH SoS Bill Gardner told WMUR in NH that "We did nine of the 12 wards in Manchester, and a lot of the votes were exactly the same...Some went up by a vote or two." He didn't, of course, note that a lot of the vote counts (most of them) were off by 5 or more. And now, the rest of the numbers from the rest of the Manchester wards are coming on. And ...
Vote fraud costs Obama New Hampshire Post Date: 2008-01-18 02:04:32 by TwentyTwelve

Vote fraud costs Obama New Hampshire by Kam Williams Wednesday, 16 January 2008 Primary a tale of two tallies If the fix is in, it doesn't matter whether Barack Obama really deserves to be the Democratic nominee, he'll never get a fair chance to compete for the presidency. Debates about whether the junior senator from Illinois is Black enough or whether whites will be willing to vote for an African-American are moot so long as the sanctity of the ballot box can't be guaranteed. The problem is that the Diebold Corp. is at it again, and the voting machine company appears to be already in the process of quietly perpetrating the mother of all vote frauds. In case you forgot, ...
How to Rig an Election: Confessions of a Republican Operative Post Date: 2008-01-18 01:34:07 by _______

Allen Raymond, a former Republican National Committee operative, shares secrets from the GOP bunker. Allen Raymond worked inside Republican election circles for years, until he was convicted of illegally jamming telephone lines to New Hampshire Democratic Party offices on Election Day in 2002. After serving five months in jail, he and co-author Ian Spiegelman wrote How to Rig An Election, Confessions of a Republican Operative. The book details Raymond's rise in GOP campaign circles; the attitude, tactics and strategies used to win; and how the RNC asked his firm to jam Democratic phone lines, but would not defend him in court after Democrats fought back and pressed court charges. ...

'No Problems' in NH Hand Count Says Local Media (Who Apparently Didn't Bother to Check First with Anybody but the SoS) Also meanwhile...Out there in MSM world, where reality creates its own definition, WMUR is reporting that all is fine in New Hampshire: CONCORD, N.H. --- The continuing Democratic primary recount in New Hampshire has not found any voting problems. Well, they're sort of correct. "Voting" problems aren't the concern. As we frequently point out, the voters are still doing fine. Leave them alone. The election problems, and the horrible administration thereof, is another matter entirely. And on that front, loads of problems have been ...
Congressmen Push for Paper Ballots Post Date: 2008-01-17 18:03:45 by robin

Both New Hampshire primary elections are going to be recounted, since Dennis J. Kucinich has put up $27,000 to get the Democratic recount started, and Albert Howard (who was on the New Hampshire Republican ballot) has donated $56,000 to re-tally the Republican vote. But the only reason these elections can even be recounted is because voting precincts in New Hampshire use paper ballots. And now some folks on Capitol Hill want to make it easier for other states to switch to non-electronic voting systems before the November election. Rush Holt, a Democratic representative of New Jersey, introduced new legislation today that would reimburse all state and local jurisdictions that opted to ...

In an election season filled with surprises, New Jerseys Republican Primary voters may be considering a surprise of their own. The first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of that Feb. 5 contest shows Arizona Sen. John McCain two points ahead of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The survey was conducted on Tuesday night and interviews were completed before results of the Michigan Primary were released. Its McCain 29%, Giuliani 27% and no one else is close. Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are tied for a distant third at 10%, Fred Thompson attracts only 6%, and Ron Paul earns 5% of the New Jersey vote. Five percent (5%) say theyll vote for some other candidate and 8% ...

Texas billionaire and former presidential candidate Ross Perot hasn't given an interview in years. Yet Perot, who won 19 percent of the vote in the 1992 presidential election, making him one of the strongest third-party candidates in American history, contacted Newsweek's Jonathan Alter. Perot came out and asked Alter: "Remember what you wrote about John McCain in the March 13, 2000, Newsweek?" The article mentioned that presidential candidate John McCain labeled Perot "nuttier than a fruitcake." Perot tells Alter that McCain "is the classic opportunist--he's always reaching for attention and glory. Other POWs won't even sit at the same table ...

I have searched Reuters, UPI, AP, AFP, Reuters and Granny Warriors to no avail. The recount began in New Hampshire. Does anyone have any word on the the first day's count went? I found out today that the optical scan versus hand count was even worse than originally reported as 14 towns that had switched from hand to machine were erroneously included. A few local stations in New Hampshire were covering the recount in depth but maybe they won't release partial or even daily results.

Thanks to a White Knight (in VERY shiny armour!) who came carrying a cheque for $55,600, the New Hampshire recount is BACK ON! Well done EVERYBODY! The combination of the pressure from all of you and the investigations into the various people causing this to be seemingly impossible some 12 hours or so ago has won through! The Secretary of State for New Hampshire, William M. Gardner, has retreated from his too late stance to a position of Ok, if the money gets here by 15:00 today. The money arrived, was handed to Albert Howard and paid, in full, to the Secretary of State. This is an historic victory for the people of America. Somebody told me ...

Add "Draft Lou Dobbs" to the efforts by independents to bring another candidate into the presidential race. The movement was launched today by Americans for Legal Immigration. The group, in a press release, praises the CNN host for "his tough stance on border security and curbing illegal immigration. While encouraging voters to register as independents, Dobbs addresses a host of issues dealing with the economy, trade agreements, election integrity, and America's middle class that would appeal to Democrats, Republicans, and independent voters alike." William Gheen, who heads the organization and its political action committee, says in that release that Dobbs ...

16/01/08 "RollingStone" -- -December 28th, a beastly-cold afternoon in Story City, Iowa. Another school gym full of polite, placard-bearing Iowans herded in to support yet another pomp-and-ceremony-promising presidential candidate, in this case Hillary Clinton. Hillary's late, however, so the campaign decides to pass the time by sending a pair of central-casting Adorable Local Children onstage to chuck HILLARY '08 T-shirts into the crowd. A young Hillary volunteer in a standard-issue Pale Blue Button-Down Shirt (the mandatory uniform of all campaign volunteers) takes the mike to introduce the kids. "There's something you should know about these two," Pale ...

After pulling an upset in the Iowa caucus, Mike Huckabee has now placed a respectable third in two northern primaries, New Hampshire and Michigan, but he has hopes of doing much better in South Carolina. Huckabee spoke to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough from Columbia, SC, saying enthusiastically, "South Carolina's a great place for me. I mean, I know how to eat grits and speak the language. We even know how to talk about eating fried squirrel and stuff like that, so we're on the same wavelength." "Mika, I bet you never did this," Huckabee went on, addressing Mika Brzezinski. "When I was in college, we used to take a popcorn popper, because that was the only ...

01/15/08 "ICH" - -- - Very few will argue that Bush years have been a disaster. The nation is weaker in every way; militarily, economically and morally. Our international influence has waned and we are at odds with practically everyone. The national frustration level is surging. That anger is being directed at the usual suspects. Its our fellow Americans fault for not voting or being too stupid, superstitious or lazy to vote their own interests. Its the fault of the GOP for crossing the line between criminality and politics as usual and for their cultish adherence to outmoded ideology. Its the PNAC neocons, egged on by AIPAC, that have dragged the country into ...

On the stump in Michigan, John McCain campaigns on victory in Iraq. It's a risky strategy, as the recent surge in violence shows. Jan. 15, 2008 | John McCain campaigned in Michigan this weekend on national security issues and Iraq, insisting that the United States is closing in on victory in Iraq and needs time to complete the mission. He spoke about Iraq in the small town of Clawson, telling voters in Tuesday's Republican primary, "We are winning this. Let's pursue it to the end together and stop this bitter partisanship." Republican voters seem to trust the former prisoner of war on matters military. Ironically, the foremost proponent of the surge in the 2008 ...
