Big-Time Gangsters Set up McCain's Family Fortune

In 1976 a crusading Phoenix reporter, Don Bolles, was murdered by a car-bomb after writing a series of stories exposing the organized crime connections of well-known figures in Arizona, including one Jim Hensley. Five years later "Honest John" McCain arrived in Arizona as the new husband of Hensley's daughter, Cindy. "From the moment McCain landed in Phoenix," according to Charles Lewis of the Center for Public Integrity, "the Hensleys were key sponsors of his political career." The fact is, the people ultimately behind the Hensley fortune are even more interesting and controversial While it is well-known McCain's father-in-law is owner of the ...

The Empire Strikes Back: Return From the Dead in New Hampshire

The Empire Strikes Back Return From the Dead in New Hampshire By ALEXANDER COCKBURN and JEFFREY ST. CLAIR Unlike her husband in New Hampshire in 1992, Hillary Clinton not only came back from premature announcements of her political demise. She actually won the Democratic primary by a narrow 2 per cent, 39-37. (In 1992 Bill, battered by reports of his infidelity, came second to Paul Tsongas by 8 per cent.) The prime reasons for her victory were a) women and b) the lower profile in New Hampshire of the war in Iraq. In Iowa, Barack Obama won the women's vote by more than 5 percentage points over Hillary Clinton. In New Hampshire, Hillary got 47 per cent of the women's vote, over 34 ...

“Iron My Shirt” Protesters of Clinton May Have Been Plants By Radio Station

“Iron My Shirt” Protesters of Clinton May Have Been Plants By Radio Station Published 1, January 9, 2008 It was an extraordinary scene on the last day of voting for New Hampshire voters when two sexist men jumped up and started waving signs that said IRON MY SHIRT and chanting the same line. Clinton immediately seized on the moment, pointing out the sexism that still exists and ordering that the lights be brought up. It infuriated many woman and could well have secured the slim margin of victory in the state for Clinton. It now appears that the protest was a stunt by a radio program by Nick Gemelli and Adolfo Gonzalez — regulars on the “Toucher and Rich” radio ...

The evidence is accumulating and we can now know with some degree of certitude that the results of the Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire Primary were rigged. Armed insurrection is not now an option. There are people who would advocate this but we must, for now, resist the impulse. The problem with taking to arms is that they now have enough of a Police State apparatus in place that it would be ineffective. For it to be effective you need millions of people rising up all at once. What we would have is the chaos of a few small groups being "eliminated" and a complete news blackout of their sacrifice. Isolated pockets of armed resistance and insurrection are simply going to get the "WACO" ...

Can Hillary Cry Her Way Back to the White House?

There was a poignancy about the moment, seeing Hillary Clinton crack with exhaustion from decades of yearning to be the principal rather than the plus-one. When I walked into the office Monday, people were clustering around a computer to watch what they thought they would never see: Hillary Clinton with the unmistakable look of tears in her eyes. A woman gazing at the screen was grimacing, saying it was bad. Three guys watched it over and over, drawn to the "humanized" Hillary. One reporter who covers security issues cringed. "We are at war," he said. "Is this how she'll talk to Kim Jong-il?" Another reporter joked: "That crying really seemed ...

No Change for me: I want Bills -- US Election Circus Awash in Clichés

08/01/08 "ICH" -- - In the runup to this year's political circus, the buzzwords of hope and change are being bandied about like the cheap currency they are. Divested of any real meaning by their repetition and cynical misapplication, they quickly become the empty slogans that make "election" season all the more depressing. Newspeak, long the vernacular of a self-perpetuating media coroporatocracy, has rendered the worst year in Iraq into proof that "the surge is working." By continually culling the arguments, adjusting the lens, and narrowing the field of discussion and inquiry, the media run by a shrinking oligarchy has assured the US electorate that up is ...

Do NH Primary Statistics Show Election Fraud?

(Updated Below) I don't intend to sound off alarm bells, but the question does need to be asked, as we have seen signs of this in the past, such as in Ohio during the 2004 general election. I just spent the last two hours putting together a spreadsheet of the Democratic results of the NH primary for each town with almost all but a few towns reporting, and the results were somewhat surprising. (Note: This is also without including nearly 2500 write-ins due to time constraints.) I say "somewhat" because some people will say this entirely foreseeable. What the informal statistics show is that Hillary Clinton received a 4.5% boost in towns using Diebold voting machines compared ...

Reports of 'Voter Fraud' in Dixville Notch, Dem Ballots Unavailable to Voters, Both Debunked by The BRAD BLOG Though Reasons Remain for Concern About Tabulation on Diebold Machines... -- Brad Friedman, The BRAD BLOG Our Spidey-sense started tingling before going to bed last night and hearing reports, on MSNBC, that there were 17 paper ballots cast in Dixville Notch, NH's midnight, first-in-the-country voting. The report said that there were only 16 registered voters in the tiny voting precinct, yet 17 votes had been cast --- suggesting that somehow, paper ballot "voter fraud" skullduggery was afoot. Following on that, reports throughout the day appeared that NH ...

Barack Obama on Gun ControlFebruary 12th, 2007 by Syd If the Democrats have "gotten the message" on gun control, why is this guy their new "rock star"? Senator Barak H. Obama, Democratic Jr Senator (IL); previously State Senator Position: Keep guns out of inner cities "but inner city violence is also a problem of morality: I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manfuacturer's lobby. But I also believe that when a gangbanger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels someone disrespected him, we have a problem of morality. Not only do we need to punish that man for his crime, but we ...

Obama and Paul poll workers kicked out of some precincts

Campaign volunteers for the Barack Obama and Ron Paul have been kicked out of precincts from Concord to Swanzey for not having the proper credentials, several unrelated sources have witnessed. In general elections it is standard practice to have poll workers sitting behind the registration table and scratching off names as people sign in. Periodically they take those lists and the campaign gets in contact with those who have voted yet. But, that is for general elections and everyone who does this a) has to live reasonably nearby (read: state residents) and b.) have letters from the state party to be an "observer". Apparently many of these Obama and Paul observers did not have ...

Three Points on the Elections (SCOTT HORTON)

Three Points on the Elections I am getting lots of nudges from readers who want me to handicap races and comment on debates. I’m flattered that people think I’d be any good at that. I’m skeptical. Nevertheless, I’ll allow myself three points: 1. The Obama Phenomenon is Real It’s easy to be a skeptic and dismiss the notion that a bunch of hog farmers meeting in town libraries across a Great Plains state could have anything meaningful to say to Americans. It’s also a typical human failing to find disproportionate meaning and importance in recent experiences. Okay, all that being said, I am wowed by the performance of Barack Obama, and by his victory speech. In ...

Clinton's White House hopes unravel Ewen MacAskill and Suzanne Goldenberg in Manchester, New Hampshire Tuesday January 8, 2008 Hillary Clinton's hopes of winning the White House continued to unravel today as her camp privately conceded that she is set lose the next key battleground, South Carolina, after failing to block the rise of Barack Obama. Amid recrimination, squabbling, soul-searching and speculation about a shake-up of staff within her campaign team, Clinton is all but abandoning her original strategy in favour of a Plan B. The new strategy is an all-or-nothing fight for the big six US states - Florida, California, Illinois, Ohio, Texas and New York. Victory in all, or ...

ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: New Hampshire Deputy Secretary of State Dave Scanlan told ABC News that turnout among primary voters today is "absolutely huge" -- and there are concerns about running out of ballots in towns like Portsmouth, Keene, Hudson and Pelham. "Turnout is absolutely huge and towns are starting to get concerned that they may not have enough ballots," Scanlan said. "We are working on those issues. Everything else seems to be going smoothly." Scanlan said that the Secretary of State's office is sending additional ballots to Portsmouth and Keene (traditionally Democratic strongholds), Hudson (Republican leaning with significant ...

Conservative Right Confused and Depressed by Clinton's Failing Candidacy

For the last eight years, Republicans and the Conservative Right, like those at the website Free Republic ( http://www.freerepublic.org ), have been sharpening their knives waiting for an impending Hillary Clinton candidacy. There hasn’t been a right wing pundit on TV or the print media who hasn’t warned of the impending doom and inevitability of a Hillary presidency. If you want one example, see this one http://www.townhall.com/columnists/TonyBlankley/2007/03/28/hillary_on_track_for_nomination . Democrats/Liberals/Progressives, take note, this Blankley article has become so funny as a result of recent events that it should not be missed. If you want another, more churlish ...

SC officials plan to use voting machines banned by other states

GREENVILLE, S.C. --South Carolina election officials say they still plan to use touch-screen voting machines despite the fact that other states have banned the use of similar systems made by the same company. Last month, top election officials in Ohio and Colorado declared that Election Systems and Software's iVotronic is unfit for elections. The ban was prompted by a study done for the state of Ohio in which researchers found that electronic voting systems could be corrupted with magnets or with handheld electronic devices, such as Treos. "We've reviewed the report and we remain confident in the security and accuracy of South Carolina's voting system," state ...

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona also widened his advantage over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, taking a 36 percent to 27 percent edge after months of hard campaigning in the state. Obama continued to feed on the momentum from his performance in Iowa last week, when he and Republican Mike Huckabee ...

When Charles de Gaulle paid his first visit to embattled French Algeria after taking power in 1958, he stepped up to the microphone in front of a vast throng of Europeans and Arabs torn by murderous hostilities, stared out at them, and simply announced, “I have understood you.” The crowd exulted. Christians and Muslims alike broke into grateful tears. De Gaulle understands us! What more do we need? Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has yet to attain that level of oracular ambiguity, but his bestseller The Audacity of Hope shows this wordsmith’s facility at eloquently restating the views of both his liberal supporters and his conservative opponents, leaving implicit the suggestion ...

McCain: I would have started Iraq war regardless of WMD

Published: Sunday January 6, 2008 According to presidential candidate John McCain, only the handling of the Iraq war was a mistake -- not the war itself. "It's not American presence that bothers the American people, it's American causalities," said McCain in an interview with Tim Russert on NBC's "Meet The Press" on Sunday. The validity of this conjecture is questionable, as fifty-nine percent of Americans say the U.S. should “stick to a withdrawal timetable." But McCain said in a recent New Hampshire debate -- and reasserted as much on Sunday -- that as long as Americans aren't dying, he sees nothing wrong with US troops staying as many as 10 ...

Clintonites Blame Iowa

Clintonites Blame Iowa 07 Jan 2008 11:23 am From a Clinton campaign email list: The Iowa caucus process is a broken and flawed process. It was designed to allow for the active party Dems generally known to one another to assign delegates and was not designed to handle a flood of students and independents. It was a system designed to give more power to Dem party loyalists. In the tension over whether the candidates should be chosen by the party or by the general public, the Iowa caucus was designed to give the party the advantage. For this reason, the Iowa system failed on Thursday. Translation: we couldn't control it. So it sucks.
