COLUMBUS, Ohio Republicans scrambled to find a candidate for one of the nation's most competitive congressional districts Thursday as Rep. Deborah Pryce, nearly a casualty of the 2006 Democratic surge, announced that she would not seek a ninth term. Also announcing that he will not run for re-election in 2008 was Rep. Chip Pickering, a six-term Republican from Mississippi. Pryce, once the most powerful Republican woman in Congress, beat Mary Jo Kilroy last year by 1,062 votes out of 220,000 cast. Democrats are backing Kilroy, a Franklin County commissioner, in 2008. Republicans could have trouble finding a top-flight candidate for an open seat in the district. Former Attorney ...

Ms. Pelosi, I want to donate $100,000 to your re-election campaign. Post Date: 2007-08-16 13:20:03 by Horse

Ms. Pelosi, I want to donate $100,000 to your re-election campaign. I don't have that much money on me, but I could raise it very quickly. In the last year of the Clinton administration Susan Gaffney, the Inspector General at HUD, admitted to Congress that she had to write $59.6 billion off the books. Catherine Austin Fitts, the former managing partner at Dillon Read, said she found one block in San Diego with 10 HUD guaranteed loans on buildings that never existed and did not even have postal addresses. Would you give me a $2.1 million dollar loan on a building that does not exist? That way I could give you a substantial campaign contribution. Those spoil sports at the Grace Commission ...

Giuliani: 'Leave my family alone' Giuliani is in New Hampshire Thursday. DERRY, New Hampshire (AP) Republican Rudy Giuliani said Thursday that people should "leave my family alone" when asked by a New Hampshire woman why the presidential candidate should expect loyalty from voters when he doesn't get it from his children. Giuliani has a daughter who has indicated support for Democrat Barack Obama and a son who said they didn't speak for some time. His ugly divorce from their mother, Donna Hanover, was waged publicly while Giuliani was mayor of New York. Giuliani has since remarried. Answering questions at a town-hall meeting, Giuliani was asked why he ...

Tommy Thompson - former governor of Wisconsin - just dropped out of the GOP presidential campaign, and now his big brother Ed Thompson is said to have endorsed GOP candidate Ron Paul (R-Tex). Wikipedia had this to say about Ed Thompson: Ed Thompson (born December 25, 1944 in Elroy, Wisconsin) was the United States Libertarian Party candidate for Governor of Wisconsin in 2002 . He received 11% of the vote. He was elected mayor of Tomah, Wisconsin in April, 2000 with 58% of the vote. His older brother, Tommy Thompson, was previously Governor of Wisconsin and United States Secretary of Health and Human Services. Eds endorsement will certainly help them in ...

Ron Paul France - Le Journal de CampagneRepublicans have not been known recently for their warmth toward the French. But at least one contender for the G.O.P. nomination has developed a dedicated, if small, fan base in Paris: Representative Ron Paul of Texas, an anti-Iraq war libertarian. The blog Ron Paul France - Le Journal de Campagne is leading the movement there, translating Mr. Pauls policies and television appearances into French and analyzing American politics. Maintained by Emmanuel, a 36-year-old Parisian, the blog muses on such topics as The Major American Media and Ron Paul: An Organized Boycott? and Why Ron Paul Will ...
Ron Paul May be Only Hope of Avoiding Draft [Full Thread] Post Date: 2007-08-13 22:42:28 by scrapper2

Special contributor Jennifer Reynolds suggests that 2008 US Presidential candidate Ron Paul may be the only hope of avoiding a draft. The subject of a draft came into play this week. A top U.S. military officer in charge of co-ordinating the U.S. war effort in Iraq said yesterday that it makes sense to consider a return of the draft to meet the U.S. military's needs. Lieutenant-General Douglas Lute, said the all-volunteer military is serving "exceedingly well" and the administration has not decided a draft is needed. But in an interview with National Public Radio, he said, "I think it makes sense to certainly consider it, and I can tell you, this has always been an ...

MILWAUKEE -- Amid a dismal showing in the Iowa straw poll, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson has dropped out of his race for the White House. His campaign has released a statement saying the Republican is leaving the campaign trail. The campaign statement said Thompson intends to take some time off before returning to the private sector and his nonprofit work. The 65-year-old said he's comforted by the fact that he thinks he made a difference for people during his campaign. He finished sixth among 11 candidates in this weekend's GOP straw poll in Iowa, garnering a disappointing 7 percent of the vote. He had said before the Iowa event that he would drop out of the race unless ...

Judith Giuliani always dreamed big, which got her out of small-town Pennsylvania, through two marriages, and into the arms of Rudy Giuliani. But, as her husband runs for president, people are asking, "Who does she think she is?" It was the first anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero, an occasion when the names of the dead were read aloud. The first reader was to be Rudy Giuliani, New York's mayor at the time of the disaster, whose actions during those terrible days would prove a political boon. An army of policemen flanked himan excessive number, spectators thought, since, due to the hundreds of dignitaries gathered, security outside was extremely tight. Inside the tent ...

Romney wins straw poll, Ron Paul's campaign encouraged by fifth-place finish Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romeny took the top spot in Saturday's Iowa Straw Poll, as was expected, and the poll also energized some lower-tier candidates. Saturday's vote was long-shot candidate Ron Paul's chance to show his anti-war and libertarian views had resonance beyond his committed core of online supporters. Paul's campaign made a concerted push for support in the weeks leading up to this weeks vote, through extra visits to the state from the candidate, and a cavalcade of television, radio and newspaper advertisements. Des Moines Register columnist David Yepsin, who attended ...
Romney Still Defends Putting Family Dog On Roof Of Car Post Date: 2007-08-12 12:39:35 by Zipporah

On this mornings Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace interviewed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and actually hammered him about putting his dog, Seamus, in a kennel on the roof of his car on a long family vacation. Wallace, who says hes a dog lover, points out that Massachusetts law prohibits endangering animals in this way and asks, what were you thinking? After a chuckle, Romney jovially explains how Seamus jumped up there on his own and how much he loved being on the roof of the car. He also assures Wallace that the kennel was airtight and safe, but admits that he had no idea that he was breaking the law. play

Barbecue, Music and Voting Machine Mishaps Post Date: 2007-08-12 00:01:37 by christine

AMES, Iowa, Aug. 11 -- Republican presidential candidates transformed the campus of Iowa State University into a conservative carnival Saturday, competing for votes by offering free soda and barbecue and a promise of shade for the thousands who braved the 100-degree heat to attend this year's straw poll. The activists came by the busload, more than 30,000 in all, for the first voting of the 2008 presidential campaign. But the counting was marred by a voting machine malfunction involving about 1,100 votes, or about 8 percent of the total cast. The time required to count those ballots delayed the announcement of the results by more than an hour. As everyone inside the Hilton Coliseum ...
