RAND PAUL PROMISES TO SHUT DOWN NSA DATA CENTER IF HE BECOMES PRESIDENT
Post Date: 2015-08-31 09:04:38 by Ada

Republican Senator Rand Paul has been one of the few vocal critics of the U.S. government’s spying programs. He’s the only presidential candidate that has made NSA spying a central topic of their campaign. NSA spying is so important to Rand that he’s promised to shut down the NSA data center if he becomes president. After he stops the indiscriminate collection of Americans’ data, he’ll convert the data center into a “Constitutional Center” where the Fourth Amendment will be studied. “I’m on my way to the airport, but we decided to stop by the NSA facility in Utah. When I become President, we’ll convert it into a Constitutional Center to ...

Whose War in Yemen?

Saudi Arabia wreaks havoc on its poorest neighbor—with U.S. help. For much of the past year, the country of Yemen in southern Arabia has been convulsed by civil war and foreign military intervention. Especially since the capture of the capital city, Sana’a, last September by a Zaydi Shi’ite militia called Ansar Allah—more commonly known as the Houthis—Yemen has been in political turmoil. Since then a U.S.-backed, Saudi-led military intervention has intensified the country’s civil strife and brought about a humanitarian catastrophe affecting more than 20 million civilians. Though most Americans may not realize it, the U.S. is helping to wage war on yet another ...

Last month when we polled North Carolina and found Donald Trump leading the Republican field, it was the first poll by anyone anywhere to find Trump out ahead. He was at 16%. Our newest survey of the state finds that Trump's momentum has just continued to grow. He's now at 24% to 14% for Ben Carson, 13% for Jeb Bush, 10% for Ted Cruz, 9% for Marco Rubio, and 6% each for Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and Scott Walker. Those folks make for a pretty clean top 8 in the state. Rounding out the field are Rand Paul at 3%, Chris Christie and Rick Santorum at 2%, John Kasich and Rick Perry at 1%, Jim Gilmore, Bobby Jindal, and George Pataki with less than 1%, and Lindsey Graham with ...

Gitmo explained by Kaye Foley Associate Producer ‎August‎ ‎21‎, ‎2015 President Obama has less than a year and a half before his time in office comes to an end. What’s lingering on his to-do list? Closing the U.S. military prison at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. Guantanamo, or Gitmo as it is often called, which comes from its military abbreviation GTMO, opened in 2002, following the Sept. 11 attacks. Gitmo became the holding place for individuals suspected of planning attacks against the United States. Since its opening, Gitmo has held more than 780 prisoners. Over the years, prisoners have been transferred or released. And now 116 still remain. ...

The poll shows that 51 percent of the 1,001 adults surveyed between Aug. 13-17 disapprove of how Obama handles the presidency overall, with 47 percent approving, reports CNN. The president's show is a flip from those in a similar poll in late July, in which respondents gave him a 49 percent ...

Scary! Is Trump A Stooge To Get This Candidate Elected?

Scary! Is Trump A Stooge To Get This Candidate Elected? I appreciate Rand Paul. Like Donald Trump, Paul is not afraid to say things straight. Unlike Trump, Paul has a track record, and Paul’s policies make sense to me as a Tea Partier (has Trump taken a stand on anything other than a hard line on immigration?). So, if you’re like me, you’ll love watching Paul nail Trump by calling him a “fake conservative” here. You’ll also like watching Paul call Trump a “chameleon” and a “consummate insider” who “buys and sells politicians” who “has been on every side of every issue.” (source here). The scarier idea that Paul ...

“Why (gasp!), Bernie Sanders is a SOCIALIST!”

Yes, and so are all the other presidential candidates; and all the other politicians; and all political parties; and all political systems! Throughout human history, and regardless of the label under which any have operated, every political system has been premised on the arrogated authority to preempt decision making over the lives and property interests of individuals. This is the implicit meaning of “eminent domain”: the state is the ultimate owner of all within its boundaries. In this sense, King George III was a socialist, as were the colonials who became the “Founding Fathers” and expelled the British (if you doubt this, ask what became of the lives and ...

Ron Paul, R-Texas, warns that Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen won’t raise interest rates this year, defying public expectations, in the wake of China’s currency devaluation. "She's going to be more hesitant to raise rates because she sees how fragile the global economy is," Paul told CNBC. "She's under the gun," he said. "I could be wrong, but I don't think they are going to raise interest rates," he said. ...

Ron Paul: Fed may not hike because 'everything is vulnerable'

China's move to devalue its currency roiled the markets last week, and stoked new fears about the health of the world's third largest economy. However, according to former Rep. Ron Paul, the move may have given Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen the cover she needs to not raise rates later this year, as many market participants expect. "She's going to be more hesitant to raise rates because she sees how fragile the global economy is," Paul told CNBC's "Futures Now" on Thursday. "She's under the gun," he added. "I could be wrong, but I don't think they are going to raise interest rates." According to the former Republican ...

Trump on Rand Paul: 'Spoiled Brat Without Properly Functioning Brain' Image: Trump on Rand Paul: 'Spoiled Brat Without Properly Functioning Brain' (Wire Services) By Greg Richter | Monday, 10 Aug 2015 10:27 PM Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump responded to his presidential rival, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, via Twitter on Monday after Paul wrote an op-ed and held a telephone press conference in which he accused Trump of being a "fake conservative" and a "bully." Trump didn't address the issue of his own political philosophy, but did attack Paul's intelligence: Trump also noted that Paul appears to be hedging his bets, running ...

The Foreign Policy of the GOP

They’ve learned nothing because they remember nothing If the "first tier" Republican presidential debate revealed anything, it is the huge empty space that is at the heart of the conservative mind, circa 2015. No wonder a vacuous nonentity like Donald Trump is leading in all the polls: his gargantuan ego has invaded that vast emptiness and expanded like a giant hot air balloon. As to how soon that gaseous zeppelin will pop – well, it’s anybody’s guess. All we know is that if and when it does another big nothing will take its place. Speaking of a big nothing, the performance of Sen. Rand Paul, once the great hope of anti-interventionists and libertarians, was ...

And so, the Fed set about its hundred-year programme of continuous inflation. Although there have been periods of lower inflation (and even deflation), the programme stayed more or less on course, and now, its hundred-year life has all but ended: the dollar has been devalued almost 100%. Submitted by Jeff Thomas via InternationalMan.com, “In spite of all the rhetoric, we will go deeper in debt, the Fed will print more money, and the value of the dollar will continue to plummet.” - Ron Paul Never in history have the economic and political structures been so manipulated by those who are responsible for their safekeeping; never has so much been at stake, in so many countries, and ...

“The shaping of the will of Congress and the choosing of the American president has become a privilege reserved to the country’s equestrian classes, a.k.a. the 20% of the population that holds 93% of the wealth, the happy few who run the corporations and the banks, own and operate the news and entertainment media, compose the laws and govern the universities, control the philanthropic foundations, the policy institutes, the casinos, and the sports arenas.”— Journalist Lewis Lapham Being a citizen in the American corporate state is much like playing against a stacked deck: you’re always going to lose. The Return of Ron Paul

His new book says it all Ron Paul changed American politics in a way that no single individual can claim: it was Paul, a congressman from a rural district in Texas, who put libertarianism on the political map. It was the movement he inspired – a movement driven largely by young people – that has challenged the War Party like no other. Not even the antiwar movement of the 1960s has done so much to change the American consciousness when it comes to our interventionist foreign policy – and Paul’s new book, Swords Into Plowshares: A Life in Wartime and a Future of Peace and Prosperity, encapsulates the spirit of the man and the seed he has planted. Written in the form of ...

BILLIONAIRE BUDDIES - Carl Icahn accepts Donald Trump’s offer to be Treasury Secretary

Billionaire financier Carl Icahn just may have changed his tune on being Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary. “After last night’s debate I decided to accept @realDonaldTrump offer for Secretary of Treasury,” he tweeted Friday afternoon following Thursday’s Republican presidential debates. On June 18, in an appearance on MSNBC, Donald Trump said that if he were elected president, “I’d love to bring my friend Carl Icahn” as Treasury Secretary. The next day, Carl Icahn published a letter on his website politely declining Trump’s offer. “Seriously, the methods of electing our corporate and political leaders have become completely ...

Kelly's TWEETS at source)WASHINGTON – Who won the great debate? According to the mainstream media, the winner was … Fox News. According to Rush Limbaugh, the loser was … Fox News. At least, in the sense that the network may have blown its credibility with conservatives. And Limbaugh said he saw it coming. “Everybody should have known this was gonna happen,” he said. “This is presidential politics, and Republican candidates are where media people score their points. It’s where they build their careers. It’s where they establish their credentials.” The conservative talk-radio giant saw another motivation for the moderators’ ...

CLEVELAND (CBSDC/AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump went on a Twitter rant against Fox News’ Megyn Kelly and pollster Frank Luntz following Thursday night’s GOP presidential debate. Kelly and Trump mixed it up when she asked Trump about his calling “women you don’t like ‘fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.'” Trump didn’t deny it. And when Kelly was undeterred by his attempt to laugh off her question with a joke about comedian Rosie O’Donnell, he fired back. “I don’t frankly have time for total political correctness,” Trump said. “And to be honest with you, this country ...

Searching For a Candidate That Doesn’t Exist

As the media begins to buzz with anticipation over the first televised Republican presidential debate—taking place this evening on Fox News—it’s difficult not to feel disillusioned before it even begins. Because, along with (I assume) at least a few other millennials out there, I don’t think there’s a single candidate I want to vote for. And the shouting matches that are sure to build over the next several months are only going to further entrench that viewpoint. The problem is that the politics of the millennial generation is more diverse, issue-based, and flexible than those of our forbears. Few of us are fanatically partisan. Many of the conservative young ...

CLEVELAND (AP) — Billionaire businessman Donald Trump will be front and center in the Republican Party's leadoff presidential debate, scoring the top spot in Thursday's prime-time faceoff where he'll be joined by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and seven other White House hopefuls who made the campaign's first cut. But it's a disappointing situation for seven other Republicans including former technology executive Carly Fiorina and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who will be relegated to a pre-debate forum and second-tier status in the party's crowded field. Fox News on Tuesday announced the 10 GOP candidates who will take part in the ...

Poll: Trump Crushes Bush and Walker Combined, Favorability Rockets to 52% The Associated Press by John Nolte 3 Aug 2015 Because of the small sample size, there were a lot of questions surrounding Monday’s Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that showed Donald Trump leading the Republican primary field and, interestingly enough, appearing to siphon votes away from establishment candidates like Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 80% . A Monmouth University poll, also released Monday and with a somewhat larger sample size and smaller margin of error, shows Trump in first place, beating both Scott Walker and Jeb Bush combined. The poll puts Trump in first ...

The Plot to Destroy Nixon

In his new biography Being Nixon: A Man Divided, Evan Thomas concedes a point. Richard Nixon, he writes, “was not paranoid; the press and the ‘Georgetown set’ really were out to get him.” Carl Bernstein’s review found Thomas’s book deficient in its failure to chronicle the “endemic criminality” of the Nixon presidency. Yet, recent revelations suggest that “endemic criminality” is a phrase that might well be applied to the newsroom of the Washington Post when Bob Woodward and Bernstein worked there. Consider. In All the President’s Men, Woodward and Bernstein admit that, in collusion with Post editors and with the approval of Post ...

Is Rand Paul Missing His Giuliani Moment?

Rand Paul tells the Washington Post‘s Dave Weigel that Thursday’s Republican presidential debate will pit him against rivals who “want to blow up the world.” He has reason to use stark language. After weeks of negative press, single-digit poll numbers, and lackluster fundraising, Senator Paul needs a “Giuliani moment”— something that will do for his campaign what a showdown with “America’s mayor” did for his father’s effort after the first debate of 2007. In fact, Rand Paul has the opportunity to do much more than his father ever could. But he’s missing it: Rand’s “Giuliani moment” is the Iran deal, and it calls ...
