US Building Case Tying Separatists to Plane Crash Friday, 18 Jul 2014 09:17 PM The United States is building a case linking pro-Russian separatists to the shocking downing of a passenger jet in Ukraine. A somber President Barack Obama declared the deaths of those on board, including at least one American, an "outrage of unspeakable proportions." Obama said the U.S. believes the Malaysia Airlines plane was felled by a surface-to-air missile launched from an area near the Ukraine-Russia border that is controlled by Kremlin-backed separatists. Even as he cautioned that the exact circumstances were still being determined, the president turned his sights on Russia, saying the ...

Malaysia Airlines MH17 Crash

Collateral damage is inevitable in the chaos of proxy war We live in an era in which great military powers do not want to confront each other directly so they operate through local proxies. This has the advantage that Russia was not openly intervening with its own troops in eastern Ukraine but could influence events on the ground by operating through heavily armed separatists whose exact relationship with the Russian security services could be kept murky and responsibility for their actions could be denied. Nevertheless, it is clear from the intercepted phone call made 20 minutes after the Malaysian airliner had crashed that it is officers of the Russian armed forces who are calling the ...

GCHQ's dark arts: Leaked documents reveal online manipulation, Facebook, YouTube snooping

Summary: A fresh set of documents leaked by Edward Snowden show how the UK intelligence agency can manipulate online polls and debates, spread messages, snoop on YouTube and track Facebook users. The UK spy agency's dark arts were revealed in documents first published by The Intercept, and each piece of software is described in a wiki document written up by GCHQ's Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group (JTRIG). The document, which reads like a software inventory, calls the tools part of the agency's "weaponised capability." Some of the most interesting capabilities of the tools on the list include the ability to seed the web with false information — such as ...

It's Not Your Imagination: The Government Really Is Worse Than Ever

Ever get the feeling the government is getting worse and worse at doing its job? Well, according to veteran public policy scholar Paul Light, you’re right. Light, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington and a professor of Public Service at New York University, released a study of major government failures on Monday – everything from the botched rollout of Obamacare’s health care exchanges to the failed response to Hurricane Katrina – and found that failures are increasingly frequent. Related: The Bureaucratic Blob That Is Ruining America Using data drawn from news archives, Light identified government failures dating back to 1986 and found that ...

Mary Matalin: Obama Has No 'Soul' Thursday, 10 Jul 2014 05:40 PM President Barack Obama's refusal to visit the U.S.-Texas border, followed by a beer drinking, pool-shooting session with the governor of Colorado, proves the commander-in-chief has no soul, veteran GOP political consultant Mary Matalin says. "I've known and have worked with … many politicians and they have a soul. I keep looking for this man's soul and I can't find it. '' Matalin told "The Steve Malzberg Show" Thursday on Newsmax TV. Story continues below video. "He has no empathy. There's no understanding. It's just, everything's a celebration of ...

House Tea Party GOPers Oppose Obama Impeachment Wednesday, 09 Jul 2014 05:02 PM By Todd Beamon Several conservative Republicans pushed back Wednesday on calls for President Barack Obama's impeachment. "Harry Reid's going to block anything we do in that regard," Georgia Rep. Paul Broun told The Hill on Wednesday. Broun, a four-term congressman, said in February that he would vote to impeach Obama. "There are a number of colleagues that would like to see an impeachment proceeding go forward against the president," he said. "I'm not sure our leadership would allow that to happen ... we've got to focus on what we can do." Louisiana Rep. John ...

Clinton and Kerry Call On Snowden To Submit to Sham Security State Trial

Snowden Should Refuse to Play "Alice in Wonderland" Edward Snowden submitting to prosecution in the United States, would be like Alice going into the courtroom in Wonderland. Alice stood before the King and Queen of Hearts who served as the judges. Knaves were chained on the ground before them. The jurors, Alice realizes are "stupid things." The first witness against her was the Mad Hatter who is as mad as the culture he represents. The guinea pigs who protest are immediately "suppressed" by having their mouths tied up and being put into a bag and sat on by the King so their protests cannot be heard. The most important evidence in the trial was secret, a ...

Washington Murders Countries, the US Constitution, and the Presstitute Media Makes Americans Complicit

Having Murdered Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, and the US Constitution, Washington is now Murdering Ukraine. Thanks to Op-Ed News contributor Eric Zuesse, I can bring to your attention these photographs (URL below) of what the Nazi Government in Washington is doing to Ukrainians who protest the Washington Nazis’ theft of their country. On this Fourth of July Americans need to ask themselves just how much horror, how much evil, and how many lies they can accept from a government in Washington that has established itself independently of any input from citizens to which government in the US is allegedly accountable. Before you wrap yourself in the flag this July 4th, realize that ...

WHAT THE FOUNDERS REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT RACE
Post Date: 2014-07-05 00:12:36 by X-15

Today, the United States officially takes the position that all races are equal. Our country is also committed―legally and morally―to the view that race is not a fit criterion for decision-making of any kind, except for promoting “diversity” or for the purpose of redressing past wrongs done by Whites to non-Whites. Many Americans cite the “all men are created equal” phrase from the Declaration of Independence to support the claim that this view of race was not only inevitable but was anticipated by the Founders. Interestingly, prominent conservatives and Tea Party favorites like Michele Bachman and Glenn Beck have taken this notion a step further and ...

Quinnipiac: Obama Worst President Since World War II, Reagan the Best Image: Quinnipiac: Obama Worst President Since World War II, Reagan the Best Wednesday, 02 Jul 2014 07:45 AM By Sandy Fitzgerald President Barack Obama is the worst president since World War II, and the United States would have been better off if his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, had won the election in 2012, a new Quinnipiac University national poll released today reveals. The best president? Ronald Reagan. "Over the span of 69 years of American history and 12 presidencies, President Barack Obama finds himself with President George W. Bush at the bottom of the popularity barrel," said Tim Malloy, ...

Hobby Lobby Opinion Doesn’t Solve Problem of Too Many Mandates

June 30, 2014 – The long-awaited ruling by the Supreme Court dealing with Hobby Lobby came down. I did not find any surprises in this ruling. I agree that they ruled correctly, but it doesn’t solve many of our problems. The biggest problem is that government is more than an instrument of issuing mandates. As they do this, of course, they diminish liberty. There was a time when governments were supposed to protect liberty, and minimize any of the mandates on the people. Unfortunately, the majority of the American people actually agree with the Supreme Court. They think that women have a right to free birth control. I strongly disagree with that. The Supreme Court ruling actually ...

Who Violated Ukraine’s Sovereignty?

Did Russia’s annexation of Crimea on March violate the 1994 Budapest agreement among Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain and the U.S.? Specifically, in Paragraph One, Ukraine agreed to remove all nuclear weapons from its territory in return for a commitment by Russia, Britain and the US“to respect the independence and sovereignty and existing borders of Ukraine?” I’m no lawyer, but I can read the words. And, taken literally, the answer seems to be Yes – despite a host of extenuating circumstances that can be adduced to explain why Crimea rejoined Russia, including the alarm among Crimean leaders over the unconstitutional ouster of Ukraine’s elected president and ...

NYT Revamps Its False Ukraine Narrative

Exclusive: Official Washington’s Ukraine narrative has been that it was all Vladimir Putin’s fault, that the Russian president staged the crisis to restore the Russian empire, a storyline that never made sense and is now being rearranged to explain why Putin is seeking peace, writes Robert Parry. It’s always interesting when the New York Times promotes a false narrative – as it has on Ukraine by blaming the crisis all on “Russian aggression” – and then has to shift its storyline when events move in a different direction, like President Vladimir Putin’s recent peacemaking initiatives. On Thursday, the Times explained Putin’s call for an ...

Supreme Court Rules Against Obama Over Recess Appointment Power Thursday, 26 Jun 2014 10:59 AM The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a blow to President Barack Obama by cutting back the power of the White House to temporarily fill senior government posts without Senate approval. In a ruling that will constrain future presidents, the court held on a 9-0 vote that the three appointments Obama made to the National Labor Relations Board in 2012 were unlawful. The decision limits the ability of presidents to make so-called recess appointments without Senate approval, although the court did not go as far as it could have gone in restricting a president's powers. The decision, written ...

Rubio: Obama Presidency Effectively Over Image: Rubio: Obama Presidency Effectively Over Thursday, 19 Jun 2014 09:25 AM By Melanie Batley President Barack Obama's presidency is effectively over because the people have lost faith in his ability to lead and the president himself has failed to provide leadership both at home and abroad, said Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio. In an appearance on Fox News' "Hannity" show on Wednesday, the possible 2016 presidential hopeful said he agreed with NBC News correspondent Chuck Todd's assessment that the latest polling figures indicate his presidency is no longer viable. "I saw a commentator today say that these polls ...

Libertarian Party opposes further intervention in Iraq

In February 2003, the Libertarian Party (LP) issued an article titled "10 reasons why the USA should not attack Iraq." The article began by saying, "... there's only one valid reason for the United States to go to war: Self-defense." Geoffrey Neale, LP national chairman, commented, "Unfortunately, the U.S. government ignored that principle, and engaged in 'preventive war' against Iraq. Many times since then, the Libertarian Party has criticized that decision." Neale also served as the LP national chairman in 2003. In retrospect, the LP greatly understated the problems. We guessed the war might cost as much as $200 billion. It turned out to be closer ...

Haven’t We Already Done Enough Damage in Iraq?

In 2006, I invited the late General Bill Odom to address my Thursday Congressional luncheon group. Gen. Odom, a former NSA director, called the Iraq war “the greatest strategic disaster in American history," and told the surprised audience that he could not understand why Congress had not impeached the president for pushing this disaster on the United States. History continues to prove the General’s assessment absolutely correct. In September, 2002, arguing against a US attack on Iraq, I said the following on the House Floor: No credible evidence has been produced that Iraq has or is close to having nuclear weapons. No evidence exists to show that Iraq harbors al-Qaeda ...

Speaking at the Iowa Republican convention on Saturday, Paul declared the 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi the most concerning scandal of the Obama administration and laid the blame at Clinton’s feet. Paul said Clinton’s biggest “dereliction” was to have never read the diplomatic cables from Ambassador Christopher Stevens, who was killed in the attack, providing updates for the on-the-ground situation in Libya. “She never read them. It’s a dereliction of duty. It’s something that should preclude Hillary Clinton from every being considered as commander in chief,” he said to loud applause. He said if elected president, he would have asked ...

Beware a Beneficent Government

The president is an ardent progressive. This dastardly philosophy of government was brought into the American mainstream 100 years ago by a Republican, Theodore Roosevelt, and a Democrat, Woodrow Wilson. Its guiding principle is the belief that government — not individuals — is the chief engine of human progress. If that means government tearing down rich persons to help poor persons, if that means the massive redistribution of wealth, if it means federal regulation of every conceivable occupation or productive endeavor, if it means fighting an unjust war, progressives are for it. Before the progressives, the dominant political thinkers in America were Madisonians. James ...

Ron Paul addresses Monday on the Ron Paul Channel the menacing militarization of police in the United States. Paul, the chairman and founder of RPI, explains the problem extends from small towns obtaining military combat vehicles to United States government agencies buying up vast amounts of weapons and ammunition to police employing over 40,000 SWAT team raids each year. Paul also notes in the commentary that crime in Denver has decreased following the legalization of marijuana in Colorado. Paul wonders if Colorado may be on to something—less laws are a better means than militarized police to reduce crime. Watch the complete commentary here. As has happened in other instances, Paul ...

Chomsky: Obama ‘Determined To Demolish The Foundations Of Our Civil Liberties’

Progressive hero Noam Chomsky is terrified of the surveillance state that has developed during the tenure of President Barack Obama, calling it a grave threat to our fundamental civil liberties. In a column published Monday, Chomsky writes that the documents revealed to the public by Edward Snowden show a system that is flagrantly violating the principles of the Constitution. “It is of no slight import that the project is being executed in one of the freest countries in the world, and in radical violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights, which protects citizens from ‘unreasonable searches and seizures,’ and guarantees the privacy of their persons, houses, ...

President George W. Bush’s former top counterterrorism official said this week that he is convinced that Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld all committed war crimes during the Iraq war. In an interview that will air in full next week, Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman asked former National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter- terrorism Richard Clarke if “President Bush should be brought up on war crimes [charges], and Vice President Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, for the attack on Iraq.” “I think things that they authorized probably fall within the area of war crimes,” Clarke agreed. ...

Putin on Obama: 'Who Made Him a Judge?' ABC News By Kirit Radia May 23, 2014 9:55 AM MOSCOW - A defiant Vladimir Putin declared today that the U.S.-led world order "has failed." Speaking to business leaders a at a forum in St Petersburg, the Russian president railed against U.S. sanctions and dismissed allegations that Russia is meddling in Ukraine, which he said was in the midst of "civil war" thanks to the West. He also rejected accusations by President Obama in unusually pointed terms. The Russian president was addressing the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russia's answer to World Economic Forum in Davos. This year fewer Western ...
