TECH STARTUP WANTS TO REPLACE CONGRESS WITH SOFTWARE

Software system would decide on legislation through "on-line vote" by constituency A California tech startup wants to replace Congress with a software system that decides how to vote on every bill according to public opinion. The startup, PlaceAVote, envisions Americans voting on legislation through their software system and is currently running two candidates for Congress, both software engineers, who vow to vote according to the tallies recorded by the system. “If a PlaceAVote candidate is voted into office, all bills that come before Congress will be decided by the district via majority vote online,” states the company’s web site. One of PlaceAVote’s ...

Tax Reform is Useless Without Spending Reform
Post Date: 2014-05-23 06:10:17 by Ada

Recently, Republican leaders in Congress unveiled a “tax reform” plan that they claimed would provide the American people with a simpler, fairer, and more efficient tax system. While this plan does lower some tax rates and contains some other changes that may make next April a little less painful for Americans, there is little in it to excite supporters of liberty. Taxes may even increase under this plan for some Americans, as it eliminates some of those tax deductions labeled “loopholes.” When I served in Congress I opposed bills that “closed loopholes” because closing loopholes is just a fancy way of saying raising taxes. Anything that leaves more money in ...

Like the Rockefellers and the Kennedys, the Kochs are one of the most influential dynasties of the modern age, but they have never been the subject of a major biography… until now. Not long after the death of his father, Charles Koch, then in his early 30s, discovered a letter the family patriarch had written to his sons. “You will receive what now seems to be a large sum of money,” Fred Koch cautioned. “It may either be a blessing or a curse.” Fred’s legacy would become a blessing and a curse to his four sons-Frederick, Charles, and fraternal twins David and Bill-who in the ensuing decades fought bitterly over their birthright, the oil and cattle-ranching ...

Warning Label For US ConstitutionReading the U. S. Constitution has been deemed dangerous and should not be read to children without adult supervision. Wilder Publications is putting a warning label on copies of the U.S. Constitution. The warning reads: "This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work." The following is a copy of the U. S. Constitution. Please read with caution. This text is the ...

State-Sponsored Terror in Ukraine

State-Sponsored Terror in Ukraine by Stephen Lendman Nazism thrives in Ukraine. US-supported fascists govern this way. Democracy is verboten. Opposition isn't tolerated. Freedom is a four-letter word. Putin addressed what's ongoing responsibly. Russia helped defeat Nazism in WW II. Putin sees its reemergence in Ukraine. He called it "utterly dangerous." "It's evidenced by the present-day tragic events in Ukraine, the rampancy of neo-Nazi forces that unleashed a veritable terror against civilians," he said. "Of course, we shall continue to resist attempts at falsifying history, at heroizing fascists and their henchmen, and at casting aspersions on ...

Ron Paul Praises States’ Nullification of US Marijuana Prohibition
Post Date: 2014-05-19 08:07:26 by Lorie Meacham

Ron Paul, Wednesday on Fox Business’ The Independents, praises state governments’ nullification of marijuana prohibition. Paul, though, proceeds to warn against the taxation motivation behind liberalizing marijuana laws, noting that “if you had a libertarian society, you wouldn’t be legalizing something just so you could tax it.” Paul, who is chairman and founder of RPI, also addresses in the interview politicians who perceive ending the drug war as “a risky political position to take.” This concern is overblown, suggests Paul, explaining “One of the types of achievements I had was running in a southern district, a Bible Belt district, and promoting ...

White House: No more information about drone killings will be released to public

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters Thursday that the Obama administration will not be releasing any more information about the controversial use of drones to kill American citizens. Carney’s remarks, via the White House’s transcript of the off-camera press gaggle: “This is not an open-ended process. This is a specific and unique accommodation in this circumstance. The fact is, when it comes to public disclosure, we have been — not with the kind of attention that’s been given it this week — but we have been publicly discussing these matters at the highest levels of government for the very reason that I’ve given, which is the President ...

Why They Hate Peace

[Editor’s Note: This is a selection from the last chapter of Ron Paul’s A Foreign Policy of Freedom.] The most succinct statement about how governments get their people to support war came from Hermann Goering at the Nuremberg trials after World War II: Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter ...

I am not a fan of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner. He presided over the politically conceived, patently unconstitutional and anti-free market taxpayer bailouts of banks, automakers and insurance companies in the latter part of the administration of former President George W. Bush, when he was the head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and during the first term of President Obama, when he was the secretary of the Treasury. In those years and still today he has argued that aggressive government intervention leads to a stronger financial system because the government will take risks with taxpayer money that the taxpayers themselves will not take with it. He believes ...

Russia Threatens the Dollar Standard

Who knows why we were awake so early. But the email hit our inbox at 4:13 a.m. and immediately grabbed our attention. "De-Dollarization: Russia Is on the Verge of Dealing a Massive Blow to the Petrodollar," read the headline. Inside, blogger Michael Snyder explained the next chapter in the ongoing financial war between Russia and the U.S. Synder's facts came courtesy of the Voice of Russia -- a Russian news outlet that reported the following: "According to the Prime news agency, on April 24, the government organized a special meeting dedicated to finding a solution for getting rid of the U.S. dollar in Russian export operations. Top-level experts from the energy ...

Weekly Standard: Hillary Candidacy Not a Done Deal Wednesday, 14 May 2014 01:20 PM By Bill Hoffmann There's a decent chance that Hillary Clinton will not run for president in 2016, according to columnist Jonathan V. Last, writing in The Weekly Standard. "It's not at all clear that her candidacy is a foregone conclusion … For starters, what if she ran and lost? Losing a campaign for president can be hard on a person," Last says. "If Hillary runs and gets beat by the Most Dangerous Republican in American History — and rest assured, whoever wins the GOP nomination will be so radical that he'll make Ted Cruz, George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Barry ...

Rand Paul Can Beat Hillary Clinton

Rand Paul Can Beat Hillary Clinton Thursday, 13 Mar 2014 01:24 PM By Doug Wead Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky may be the only Republican who can beat Hillary Clinton for president in 2016. Paul decisively won the March 8, 2014 CPAC straw poll with 31 percent, his neo-libertarian sidekick, Sen. Ted Cruz, was second at 11 percent. Jeb Bush and the Karl Rove faction of the party registered 1 percent. According to a recent column in The Washington Post, Rand Paul is now leading the Republican field. This is showing up in some recent presidential preference polls. It is puzzling to many political pundits. Polls don't usually mean much this early in an election cycle. It's usually all ...

What is the “non-aggression principle”?

(By Dr. Mary Ruwart from Ask Dr. Ruwart, from the Liberator Online Volume 18, No. 20. Subscribe here!) QUESTION: What is the libertarian “non-aggression principle” (or “non-aggression axiom”)? MY SHORT ANSWER: Libertarianism is based on a single ideal, the non-aggression principle, so libertarian rhetoric tends to be remarkably consistent. Libertarians oppose the initiation of force to achieve social or political goals. They reject “first-strike” force, fraud or theft against others; they only use force in self-defense. Those who violate this “non-aggression principle” are expected to make their victims whole as much as possible. This “Good ...

Putin displays Ukraine chess mastery

Russia’s celebrations of the 69th anniversary of the defeat of fascism in World War II come just days after Ukrainian neo-fascists enacted an appalling Odessa massacre. For those who know their history, the graphic symbolism speaks for itself. And then a geopolitical chess gambit added outright puzzlement to the trademark hypocrisy displayed by the self-proclaimed representatives of “Western civilization”. The gambit comes from – who else – Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is now actively mixing chess moves with Sun Tzu’s Art of War and Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching. No wonder all those American PR shills, helpless State Department spokespersons and ...

Hillary Clinton, Boko Haram, and the Meaningless Politics of the US Terrorist List

A political sideshow to the escalating focus on the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram is what it means for Hillary Clinton’s presidential prospects. Boko Haram was not officially designated a terrorist group until Clinton stepped down and John Kerry became Secretary of State. This, Republicans tell us, reveals she is weak on terrorism and doesn’t have the leadership or foresight to keep the country safe as president. To try and make a substantive political point on the basis of the farcical and arbitrary State Department terrorist list is laughable. The “official list” is so fickle and ludricous as to be useless in any serious political discussion except to ...

Ted Cruz: Thin Justice Argument to Dismiss Rand Paul NSA Suit Thursday, 08 May 2014 02:20 PM By Melanie Batley Sen. Ted Cruz says a Justice Department request that a federal judge dismiss a class-action lawsuit filed by Sen. Rand Paul against the National Security Agency is based on "highly dubious" legal grounds. Kentucky Republican Paul filed the suit in the aftermath of revelations about the agency’s mass collection of personal information through its top-secret phone and Internet surveillance program. Texas Republican Cruz issued a statement on Wednesday after Justice Department lawyers argued the case should be dismissed because Paul could not prove that his phone ...

Bravo, Rep. Walter Jones ! Primary Win Sends Neocons Packing

Rep. Walter Jones, 20-year Republican of North Carolina, is one of America’s most courageous and honest politicians—putting him in a company that is virtually non-existent inside the beltway. He originally was an enthusiastic supporter of the Iraq War, but then he learned the facts, discovered the blatant lies the Cheney/Neocon cabal had used to sell it, and did the unthinkable. He broke with the Bush White House and became a relentless, informed, passionate and persuasive critic of not only the Iraq fiasco—-but also the entire interventionist foreign policy of the War Party. Not surprisingly, the latter went after him hammer and tong in his recent primary—-a ...

How can Americans overcome record government spending and debt, escalating healthcare costs, intrusive federal surveillance, endless wars, ongoing economic malaise, high unemployment, failing schools, and increasing abuses of civil and economic liberties? In this superb, new video from the recent, sold-out event sponsored by The Independent Institute and The Smith Center for Private Enterprise Studies (CSU-East Bay), former, twelve-term Congressman and Presidential candidate Ron Paul takes a candid look at America’s increasingly dysfunctional political system. Drawing on his 24 years in Congress, he highlights the need to rein in unchecked government power. The author of numerous #1 ...

Kathleen Willey, the former volunteer aide to Bill Clinton who claims the president sexually assaulted her in the White House in 1993, went on national television Tuesday night to escalate her new battle against former First Lady Hillary Clinton, considered by many to be the leading candidate for the Democratic nomination for the Oval Office in 2016. “I think she needs to be exposed for all the terror campaigns she has raised against women who were at the wrong place at the wrong time with her husband,” Willey told Megyn Kelly of Fox News. She said people may vote for Hillary Clinton without knowing what she is. “They have no idea what she stands for and who she is. ...

US Sanctions Against Russia an Act of War, Ron Paul Says

When you block the trade of goods and services with a particular country, it may not be quite as bad as dropping bombs, but it is a “symbol of a war,” Paul told Britain’s Channel 4 News on Monday. The American people want no part of a conflict with Russia, just as they wanted no part in a war against Syria last summer, but the US administration is still “playing games” by threatening Russia and adding sanctions, Paul added. “We’ve been involved too much and I take a non-interventionist foreign policy position. It’s not our business, it doesn’t serve anybody’s interest, it’s part of the same thing that led us into the disaster in the ...

Anti-interventionism has reached the Republican base: Now it needs a leader. The front page story in the Wall Street Journal yesterday (“Americans Want to Pull Back from World Stage, Poll Finds”) points to an intriguing contrast between the sentiments of the American people and their elites when it comes to U.S. foreign policy. While Republican and Democratic lawmakers have been urging in unison that Washington “do something” about Ukraine—the debate only being about the level of American intervention—nearly half of those surveyed in the recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll “want the U.S. to be less active in the global stage, with fewer than ...

The Libertarian Right’s Fringe Problem

Self-described constitutional conservatives are once again in vogue inside the Republican Party, but Greg Brannon is a bit of a rarity. First, his fidelity to the founding document applies to civil liberties as well as domestic programs. Second, his is a theoretically winnable race. An obstetrician like Ron Paul and Tom Coburn, Brannon is running for Senate in North Carolina. He is the main Tea Party candidate seeking the nomination of the party that made Jesse Helms a five-term senator. Given incumbent Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan’s lackluster numbers and the overall political climate, anything is possible. Brannon’s medical background enhances both his case against both ...

After the joke, be sure to take a look at the top 23 lies Obama has told according to one author. The list begs the question: How Many Lies Can One President Tell & Still Retain Any Credibility? As far as I’m concerned, as long as you have an IQ over 6 and did five minutes with of due diligence, Obama had absolutely zero credibility back in 2008 when he first ran… but that’s me. marine-at-white-house This JOKE is especially funny given Obama’s recent horrifying statement during an ABC interview that ...
