With his name slated to be on every state ballot in the country in November, Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson is an important voice bringing bold new ideas to the table that appeal to voters across the political spectrum. Johnson, a Republican who served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003, is running on a platform that includes slashing government spending to balance the federal budget by 2013, ending wars the U.S. in involved in, and drug reform -- beginning with the legalization of marijuana but extending all the way to the war on drugs, drug policy, relations with Latin America, and even law enforcement policies and priorities-- issues that neither of the ...

The George W. Bush Administration was set on going to war with Iraq even before Colin Powell made his infamous 2003 weapons of mass destruction pitch to the United Nations, writes the former secretary of state in his new book, "It Worked For Me: In Life and Leadership." Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais) It might be Powell's biggest revelation in the book, which details the experiences and lessons learned during his career as a soldier, a four-star general and secretary of state. Powell writes in one chapter in which he discussed his address to the U.N. that war "was approaching," reports the Huffington Post, which ...
Presidential Perks: Paying for Carter’s postage, Bush’s bills, and Clinton’s rent Post Date: 2012-05-09 17:49:07 by Ada

Spinners and Winners You could call it welfare for former Presidents. It's a little-noticed part of the federal budget: Each year U.S. taxpayers pick up the tab for the expenses of our former Presidents. For the likes of Carter, Clinton and Bush that means free rent, postage, phone and office staff all courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer. In 2010, taxpayer-financed expenses included $15,000 for Jimmy Carter's postage, $579,000 for Bill Clinton's rent and a whopping $80,000 for George W. Bush's phone bills. It adds up: All told, U.S. taxpayers were on the hook for more than $3 million of expenses for the four surviving former U.S. presidents. They certainly don't ...

Poll: Ron Paul Independent Candidacy Helps Romney by Jake Gibson | May 08, 2012 Print Email Share Comments RecommendTweet Ron Paul has been a thorn in the side of Mitt Romney's presidential run for years, but a new poll suggests that should the Texas congressman launch an independent candidacy it would actually help Mitt Romney. The Rasmussen survey of a hypothetical three-way race for the White House shows Romney with 44%, President Obama with 39% and Ron Paul with 13%. Ron Paul has not pulled out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination, although his chances of capturing the nomination are becoming increasingly remote. The national survey ...

Ron Pauls treatment by mainstream media, other Republican hopefuls, and the punditry makes me think the W.B. Yeats lines Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world also describe the year 2012 in the United States. Indeed, Pauls experience in the nomination campaign suggests U.S. politics lacks reasoned substance, common sense, and an understanding of what Americas Founding Fathers intended. Open up any newspaper to see the mess America has sunk itself into around the world: for example, facing off with China over a lone, non-American dissident whose safety has no relation to U.S. security. Yet today, Pauls call for ...

Watergate Revelations: The Coup Against Nixon Post Date: 2012-05-08 11:52:11 by Ada

Suddenly, everyones interested in Watergate again. The media were excited to report that Robert Redford is working on a documentary about the scandal that brought down a president and created new heroes: the reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Given that the film All the Presidents Men, in which Redford played the heroic Bob Woodward, practically made Redfords career, we probably shouldnt expect any big surprises. But heres one: In recent days, weve heard doubts from former Washington Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee about his journalists reporting on Watergate. This from a new book by Woodwards own former assistant: Ben talked ...

No other Republican Presidential candidate has ever received the enthusiastic popular support in the Republican Stronghold of Orange County that Ron Paul received in his visit to Cal State University, Fullerton, on May 3rd, 2012. 6000 enthusiastic fans crowded into the Titan Stadium, which was not designed to hold 6000. The line stretched around the stadium. Seats ran out, but supporters continued to pile in, standing to see their candidate. Mitt Romney has never received that kind of support in Republican Orange County. Click for Full Text!

Lessons from the Paul vs. Paul Debate Post Date: 2012-05-07 06:10:51 by Ada

A few days ago, Bloomberg held the debate many readers have been wanting for a long time: Paul Krugman vs. Ron Paul. To be fair, Ron Paul didn't have a slam-dunk debate moment but neither did Krugman. Still, the fact that a medical doctor from Texas armed with a little Austrian economics and a lot of common sense can stand up to a Nobel-Prize-winning economist is impressive. If the roles were reversed and the conversation was on medicine, Krugman would have likely sounded like a village idiot in the discussion. In case you haven't already seen it, click on the frame below for the video. What was more amazing than Ron Paul's performance was the number of times Paul ...

Gary Johnson Wins 2012 Libertarian Nomination Post Date: 2012-05-05 18:51:42 by Ada

LAS VEGAS -- Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson is campaigning to win the White House as a Libertarian after receiving scant attention in the Republican presidential race. Johnson easily became the party's presidential nominee at the Libertarian national convention in Las Vegas on Saturday. He hopes to appeal to voters fed up with the traditional two-party system this November. Johnson was a longshot candidate for the Republican presidential nomination when he announced in December that he would instead pursue the Libertarian ticket. He won 74 percent of the vote on the first ballot in Las Vegas, an unusual showing of support. In 2008, Libertarian delegates needed six rounds of ...

Army of Paul supporters are seizing control of GOP in under the radar coup Steve Watson Infowars.com May 4, 2012 In a stunning move, the Republican National Committee has warned that it may refuse to allow the entire delegation for Nevada to be seated at the national convention for fear that Ron Paul supporters have taken control of the state. Officials are petrified that Pauls army of supporters are in position to take up more delegate slots than Mitt Romney supporters. While Romney is thought to have won 20 of the 28 slots available in Nevada, officials fear that the delegates that take them will ignore party rules by voting for Paul over Romney during the first round of balloting. ...

Assassination Colombia – What If It Ain’t About Whores? Post Date: 2012-05-02 19:21:34 by Ada

Was Presidential Detail Penetrated by an Assassin? Cartagena, Colombia (VT) The story, one a child wouldnt believe, is that our Secret Service and Army advance teams, those that arrange for presidential security, were arrested for failing to pay one or more whores for services rendered. The real deal is very probably this: At least one of the members of the presidential detail is suspected of working with foreign nationals to arrange the assassination of President Obama. A certain nation comes to mind, one very close to former Governor Romney, the GOP candidate hopelessly behind in the polls, a candidate belonging to a religion seen as a dangerous sect, a candidate ...
Actually, Ron Paul Is Secretly Winning A Lot More Delegates Than You Think Post Date: 2012-05-02 18:10:05 by Ada

Mitt Romney may have all but locked up the Republican nomination with his victories in the East Coast primaries this week, but Ron Paul and his army of acolytes aren't ready to give up the fight just yet. As the rest of the political world's attention shifts to the general election, Paul is still quietly amassing delegates at district and county conventions, and is now poised to take a real bite or at least a big nibble out of Romney's delegate total. In just the last week, Paul locked up 49 delegates, including five in Pennsylvania and four in Rhode Island, two states thought to be firmly on Romney's turf. In Minnesota, Paul won 20 of the 24 delegates ...
