"Journey to the Center of the Mind" -- Amboy Dukes Post Date: 2008-03-02 18:09:05 by YertleTurtle

Poster Comment:The Amboy Dukes were 16 and 17 years old when they wrote this song. Nugent used to play a lot in St. Louis, where I grew up. I saw him when I was 15, and since I was standing in front of him in a small place, he almost spit on me. Right then and there, I knew what he was. There were also many, many rumors that he liked girls that were far too young. Courtney Love claimed she gave me a BJ when she was 12 and he was 28. I believe it. One of my friends knows him, and claims he is a complete asshole who destroys everything he touches. I believe that, too.

From the 1970 release "Monster" Steppenwolf Cover Words and music by John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, Nick St. Nicholas and Larry Byrom (Monster) Once the religious, the hunted and weary Chasing the promise of freedom and hope Came to this country to build a new vision Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope Like good Christians, some would burn the witches Later some got slaves to gather riches But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light And once the ties with the crown had been broken Westward in saddle and wagon it went And 'til the railroad ...

Poster Comment:Faded photographs, covered now with lines and creases Tickets torn in half, memories in bits and pieces Traces of love, long ago, that didn't work out right... Traces of love... Ribbons from her hair, souvenirs of days together The ring she used to wear, pages from an old love letter Traces of love, long ago, that didn't work out right Traces of love with me, tonight... I close my eyes and say a prayer That in her heart she'll find A trace of love still there somewhere... ohhh oh... Traces of hope in the night That she'll come back and dry These traces of tears From my eyes.... Ohh oh oh ohhhh....!

Skip Spence and the Sad Saga of Moby Grape In the summer of 1965, Jefferson Airplane decided to dismiss their first drummer, Jerry Peloquin. That's when a golden boy named Alexander "Skip" Spence came waltzing into the Matrix club and was immediately signed up by Marty Balin, the band's co-founder. Spence had little experience as a drummer but Balin just knew he'd be right for the group. He sent Spence home with a pair of drumsticks and he soon debuted with the band, going on to play on their first album, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off. Spence wasn't one for staying in one place too long, though, and he took off to Mexico one day with a girlfriend or two, neglecting ...

Hippy Slang of the 60's - Can You Dig It? Post Date: 2007-11-11 10:15:46 by Darlene

The 60s. It was a time of political controversy, rebellion, protest marches, bras burning, bare feet, and flower power. From the dust of the 60s turmoil rose a new cultural lifestyle with a new breed of people: We called them Hippies. They were children of peace who criticized middle class values, rebelled against established institutions and were dead against the Vietnam War. They were a new and liberated class of people who gave preference to freedom, love, and peace. They were set apart from others by the way they looked, how they thought, and how they spoke....
