During Thursdays hearing by the House Judiciary Select Committee on the weaponization of the federal government, FBI whistleblower Stephen Friend testified that he was ordered to write down the license plate numbers of parents who attended school board meetings. Friend a 12-year veteran of the bureau was suspended after he refused to take part in a SWAT-style raid on a January 6 suspect who was facing misdemeanor charges last summer. I have an oath to uphold the Constitution, Mr. Friend, a 12-year veteran of the bureau, told his supervisors when he declined to participate in the raid on August 24, 2022. I have a moral objection and want to be ...

The most recent S&P data show 2023 corporate bankruptcies rising at an alarming clip. Data show 236 bankruptcies were recorded through the end of April 2023 (109 had been recorded over the same time period last year). UBS also found in a recent study that bankruptcies worth $10 million or more had a rolling average of about 8 per week. Researcher and economist Peter St Onge boiled the situation down in a video, blaming the problem on one key facet. "Simple. Banks aren't lending," St Onge said.
Schumer says Senate will go on recess next week despite debt limit dispute Post Date: 2023-05-19 17:06:15 by Horse

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Thursday that the Senate will move forward with its planned May recess, ending days of speculation amid unfinished negotiations between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and President Joe Biden to avert a debt default. Schumer's announcement comes as senators were vocally uncertain if the debt ceiling dispute would prevent them from returning home for a planned recess. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says the U.S. will be unable to pay its bills by June 1, while the Senate recess ends May 30. Two days would be nowhere near enough time for the chamber to vote on a negotiated deal, especially given the Senate's current 51-49 split, ...
Electric "Smart" Meters Post Date: 2023-05-19 17:03:17 by Esso

This is via my buddy Rainman: I&M, the local electric collective, shut his electricity off last weekend because they thought he didn't pay his bill on his residence, one of four or five properties him and his wife own. It used to be that they would have to pull your electric meter to shut off your power or disconnect it at the pole. Apparently, the new "smart" meters can open the circuit remotely, probably via 5G signals, at will. Back in my day, that would take a contactor (big-ass relay) to handle that kind of power. Apparently, there's some power electronics available now that can do it. Long story, short, a couple of phone calls later, his power was restored in ...

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) On Thursday, Allen County officials looked at the possibility of raising local income taxes as a way to pay for the new county jail. At Thursdays Allen County Council (ACC) meeting, ACC President Tom Harris told WANE 15 that the Allen County Board of Commissioners (ACBC) has essentially passed the torch to ACC to figure out how to pay for the jail. That responsibility lies with County Council to determine how do we fund the jail for the next 20 years, Harris said. Commissioner Nelson Peters told WANE 15 that a request has been made for ACC to hold a public hearing to consider a local income tax increase of up to .2% in order to help fund ...

US General: Israeli-Made Iron Dome System Ready For Deployment in Ukraine Post Date: 2023-05-19 10:09:08 by Horse

One of two Israeli-manufactured Iron Dome batteries owned by the Pentagon is ready to be deployed to Ukraine, a US general told the Senate on Thursday. Tel Aviv has so far refused to supply the anti-missile system to Kiev, for fear of provoking Russia and risking its ability to freely bomb Moscows ally Syria. During a Senate Strategic Forces subcommittee hearing on Thursday, Senator Angus King pressed a senior Pentagon official on why Ukraine has not yet received the Iron Dome, noting the US role in creating the air defense system. We sent something like $3 billion to Israel to develop it
Wouldnt this be a very important resource for the Ukrainians since their ...

Not really what youd expect when you hear anti-abortion protesters Everyone who disagrees with the Democrats is a terrorist now. (Please note: Im unfamiliar with this group, but I am totally incapable of grasping the concept of a progressive anti-abortion group. The reason that the left and right issues are so separated into categories is that these are fundamentally different perspectives. Belief clusters are logical almost all of the time, with the exception that proves the rule being related to geopolitics, where far-left and far- right generally agree that elective wars are bad. The flip side of that is these wars can be sold to both ...
“Don’t Make Cheese Sandwiches If You Can’t Afford the Ingredients” Post Date: 2023-05-19 08:33:14 by Ada

Dont make cheese sandwiches if you cant afford the ingredients is a special kind of eternal wisdom that transcends all context. When I first saw the headline, I thought the old bag was quoting Confucius. The Telegraph: People should not make cheese sandwiches if they cannot afford the ingredients, Ann Widdecombe has said. The former Brexit Party MEP, who joined Reform UK earlier this year, insisted there was no given right to low food prices amid the current levels of double-digit inflation. Ms Widdecombe was taking part in a conversation about BBC research that showed the cost of a homemade cheese sandwich has jumped by a third in the past year ...

Durham shows that the investigation had been pushed forward largely by FBI agent Peter Strzok, a man known to be politically hostile to candidate Trump. All in all, the Durham report paints a picture of a highly unprofessional FBI that apparently greenlights investigations based on agents' political agendas and on politically convenient rumors. Durham sums it up: The FBI and Justice Department failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law. Special counsel John Durham on Monday released his report on the FBIs role in investigating the 2016 Donald Trump campaigns alleged collusion with Russia. This investigation, codenamed Crossfire ...

No hard evidence suggests that Russian President Vladimir Putin is sick with cancer or something else yet the rumors persist month after month. Really, the rumors sound like wishful thinking. The status of Putins health even appeared in documents ...

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee Signs Bill To Free Teachers From Union Dues, Raise Teacher Salaries Post Date: 2023-05-18 12:41:29 by Horse

Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee signed a new bill into law Thursday that allows teachers in the Volunteer State to be free from mandatory union dues and increases pay for teachers. The law, known as the Teacher Paycheck Protection Act, stipulates that minimum teacher pay will be $50,000 a year by 2026 and that teachers unions cannot automatically deduct money from those paychecks. Teachers unions across the state have been criticized over political activism and lawmakers in the state have tried for years to remove the mandatory union fees. Were also making sure that teachers actually receive their well-deserved raises and that union membership dues are never ...
