I live in a sem-rural town with 12,000 people. It's the kind of place where people's yard are a combination of grass, clover and dandelions. No one cares. One Friday and Saturday night people sit on their porches until two or three in the morning I take Mickey the pug for a walk every morning when the sky is getting light but the sun is not up. It's quiet and peaceful. But even at the time, people are still on their porches. One guy was sitting cross-legged on his porch like the Buddha, only smoking a cigarette. Two of his kids were out. They wanted to play with Mickey, then took us in the backyard to see the mother rabbit who had given birth under a bush. After that, we encountered a feral black cat with yellow eyes who did not run, only bottle his tail at us. He was stalking a bluejay, until three of them decided to divebomb him and he ran off. Then a bunch of kids saw Mickey and brought him some milk to drink in a saucer. Turtle is easily amused.

I'm glad to hear someone still has blue jays. I haven't seen one in my neck of the woods in East Texas in YEARS.

Bluejays are aggressive birds and will mob predators. There are a lot of them in the Midwest but I don't think there are many in Texas. We have raptor birds out here that I have seen snatch a smaller bird right out of the sky.
