Religion See other Religion Articles Title: Obama, Catholics and the Notre Dame Commencement Most Catholics who have heard about the issue support the University of Notre Dame's decision to invite President Barack Obama to speak and receive an honorary degree at its May 17 commencement, even though he supports abortion rights and embryonic stem cell research. But a new poll conducted by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life also finds a deep division on this issue between the most-observant Catholics and those who are less observant, as defined by frequency of worship service attendance. Poster Comment: In February, 66% of weekly attending white Catholics approved of Obama's job performance, as did 56% of those who attend less often. I do believe we deserve what we're getting.

The vid posted by Artisan brought tears to my wife's eyes. She is a devout Catholic, opposed to Obama and other late term butchers. I don't care where u stand on abortion, but that procedure is infanticide to anyone with a soul. So, IMVHO, ND did Catholics who aren't blind a huge favor by allowing this Alien POS to deliver a commencement address. Also, as religions go, Catholics are as politically fractured as all the others. I'm betting if this ND thing continues to backfire badly, those Feb. poll numbers you cite will flip.
I'm against most types of abortion, but I would not want Catholics to dominate the political response to the issue. Recall that the stem cell issue helped reelect George Bush in 2004. Catholics are increasingly influential on the nation's politics, and look where we are now. This is a side-effect of illegal immigration. The Catholic church is very pleased with our increasingly Catholic country. Yet we were founded on principles emerging from the Reformation. And here many Catholics are voting for Obama. Maybe a few are protesting at Notre Dame, but that doesn't make up for their voting droves.
You assume votes count, and worse, that political polls have validity. I've graduated beyond that stage years ago. Today, any damage that can be inflicted on Obama and an institution like ND should be celebrated. I'd love to see Notre Dame order it's campus police to arrest more 80 year old priests tomorrow. Hell, toss in some nuns too. The more force applied the better (god, I loved that they hog tied him, eh?) Sparks, before flames my friend.
I wish they would arrest the Kenyan fraud and throw him in the deepest dungeon they have.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end. Just a feeling, but the Kenyan fraud is very quickly splitting the nation down the middle. I'm not a Keyes fan, but I admire what he has done at ND, Same w/Terry and anyone who is willing to be arrested for their convictions. This might be a tempest in a tea pot, but it could also be the beginning of civil disobedience, the scale of which hasn't been seen since the 60s. God knows the time is right, and it's long over due. So carry on my brothers. Had I been there, I'd have been willing to be processed also, so would my wife. It isn't out of religious conviction for me, but the time just happens to be right.
On the other hand, I've been in numerous Catholic services within the past five years, and I know Catholics personally. I've seen Catholics online lobbying for Obama, or McCain, or Bush, and for various reasons. I respect your wife's hallowing of life and her faith, but Catholicism is not the answer. It's not going to save our economy from usury. It's not going to close our borders, or refuse amnesty to illegal aliens. It's not going to wake up our people to the present threat to their survival.
No Keyes fan here either but I will support anyone any time they stand for what is right. I was against Keyes when he spoke out against Michael New and I doubt I will ever forget that. But to stand for the unborn is right and I would have stood with those who were standing for the babies and against Obama.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end. I hope I haven't presented a case for this, because it isn't how I feel. What I'm saying is real simple; some spark will ignite this tinderbox of a nation. I haven't a clue what it will be, but this obscenity comes close to the line. Had that been a black Muslim espousing the virtues of Islam, or a radical member of the Pink Mafia, I can damn well assure you no arrest would have been made. So, as I said, enjoy this over reaction by the State and don't look terribly deep into it. It was simply the State abusing it's power and at some point a Catholic, Jew, Muslim, Baptist or atheist will resist and the flame will be lit.
Ditto James. Keyes has his faults, but scores 100% on this test.
I see, thanks JT.
Anytime, bro.
