Wow, another Nightwish fan on 4um, what a small world... :)
Here's the live version of Sleeping Sun. What a performance!
"The real deal is this: the royalty controlling the court, the ones with the power, the ones with the ability to make a difference, with the ability to change our course, the ones who will live in infamy if we pass the tipping points, are the captains of industry, CEOs in fossil fuel companies such as EXXON/Mobil, automobile manufacturers, utilities, all of the leaders who have placed short-term profit above the fate of the planet and the well-being of our children." - James Hansen

The live performance of Sleeping Sun is beautiful. Vocalist Tarja Turunen has been dismissed from the band. If you know of any recent material that's tubed, please let me know.
For whom the gun tolls For whom the prey weeps Bow before a war Call it religion
Some wounds never heal Some tears never will Dry for the unkind Cry for mankind
Even the dead cry - Their only comfort Kill your friend, I don`t care Orchid kids, blinded stare
Need to understand No need to forgive No truth no sense left to be followed
"Facing this unbearable fear like meeting an old friend" "Time to die, poor mates, You made me what I am!"
"In this world of a million religions everyone prays the same way" "Your praying is in vain It`ll all be over soon" "Father help me, save me a place by your side!" "There is no god Our creed is but for ourselves"
"Not a hero unless you die Our species eat the wounded ones"
"Drunk with the blood of your victims I do feel your pity-wanting pain, Lust for fame, a deadly game"
"Run away with your impeccable kin!"
"- Good wombs hath borne bad sons..." Cursing, God, why? Falling for every lie Survivors` guilt In us forevermore
15 candles Redeemers of this world Dwell in hypocrisy: "How were we supposed to know?"

Yeah, and that was the stupidist thing I've ever heard of a band doing. From all of the reading I've done on the subject, it appears that the keyboardist/songwriter was infatuated with her, but she married another man and that REALLY pissed him off. I guess he turned the rest of the band against her, curiously shortly after her husband told him to back off, she's married.
They fired her in a really nasty way right behind the stage of the End of an Era concert, then smeared her publically with an "open letter" that they placed up on the Internet the next day. From what I've seen of it, it's pure bullshit.
As far as Tarja, there's a bunch of recent concerts that she performed in the US and Canada this month. I think there's quite a few YouTube videos of those performances, some of better quality than others. Neither her nor the band are as good apart as they were together though.
It really sucks that they couldn't talk it over like adults, but I guess the guys had already made up their minds and refused to even consider working things out. What a bunch of wusses.

I really like this older video from the From Wishes to Eternity DVD. The song is called Deep Silence Complete

Finding Amaranth, I see they've lost their operatic patina. Too bad. The bass is still good. Before and after they're a little on the PC side for me, but the intent is good. Decidedly areligious.

What's worse than that is that they can't perform even their new song Amaranth well live, as the new singer pretty much sucks in live performances and throws the band off. In the studio they can tune up her voice with the sound equipment at their disposal, but live, it's pretty bad.
That is the complete opposite of how they used to be, where their live performances actually used to sound better than the CD.

I have to say the former singer is electrifying. I think she may have needed the keyboardist's lyrics and that understated but driving bass to really soar, though.

The drums were phenomenal and the guitar amazing, in addition to the really cool orchestral arrangements Tuomas Holopainen provided.
The band as a whole were epic, and probably could have made history much like the Beatles had done. Imagine if that sort of music had penetrated the US market instead of that Hip Hop crap?

That's odd, as it reminds me of Pink Floyd a bit, but with a female singer...

You're one of the most open minded people I know, Lodwick. Comparing them to Celtic Woman is a stretch for me.
Thanks, I think.
At this time of the evening it's pretty much free-association time, and I just type whatever pops to mind on a topic without much critical thought.
I've found so many new (to me) artists on www.pandora.com where you can pick and choose your favorite artists, songs, or genres of music to hear. Gratis.
Everything from Enya to George Jones is represented here. And I've found so many new artists which I never would have found otherwise.
