Early Christian Neutrals

Secular history provides ample evidence that the early Christians remained politically neutral and refrained from warfare. Says the book The Beginnings of Christianity: “The founders of Christianity guarded with sedulous care against the development of anything like a disposition to interfere directly with the established political order.” Similarly, the book On the Road to Civilization notes: “Early Christianity was little understood and was regarded with little favor by those who ruled the pagan world….. Christians refused to share certain duties of roman citizens. … They would not hold political office.”

Regarding the early Christians and military service, German theologian Peter Meinhold said: “Being a Christian and a soldier was considered irreconcilable.” In his essay, “An Inquiry Into the Accordancy of War With the Principles of Christianity,” religion writer Jonathan Dymond wrote that for some time after the death of Jesus, His followers “refused to engage in (war); whatever were the consequences, whether reproach, or imprisonment, or death.” Dymond added: “These facts are indisputable.” Only when “Christianity became corrupted,” said another writer, did Christians become soldiers.

I found the above to be extremely interesting. Extremely! But especially so in view of this;

Revelation 17:1 And one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying: “Come, I will show you the judgment upon the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, whereas those who inhabit the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

What does this mean: with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication?

Human rights crucial, Pope tells United Nations

www.christusrex.org/www1/pope/UN-1965.html

Pope Paul VI's Address to United Nations General Assembly, October 4, 1965

… The peoples of the earth turn to the United Nations as the last hope of concord and peace. …

Does that last sound like the message in the Bible? That the United Nations is the answer to the problems of mankind? Or, does it sound like fornication with the governments of man? How does the Bible speak of the governments of man?

Revelation 13:1 … And I saw a wild beast ascending out of the sea …

In this context, the sea is the great mass of mankind that surges back and forth across the world, blown this way and that because they heed not the message of freedom in the Bible. The ‘wild beast’ is a government that is coming out of this great mass of humanity. So governments are likened to ‘wild beasts’ in the Bible. Anyone with any knowledge of history will agree with this comparison.

Now, where did the Roman Catholic church come from?

www.reformation.org/simon...r_versus_simon_magus.html

Simon Peter versus Simon the Sorcerer

This is a great expose by the late Dr. E.L. Martin. It documents the true history of the Samaritans, the meaning of the word "peter" in the ancient world and the "church" that was established at Rome by Simon the Sorcerer.

I am not going to go deeper into this subject for a simple fact; there is no Scriptural evidence that the Apostle Peter was ever in Rome. In fact, there is very, very strong evidence that he was NEVER in Rome. Not the least of this proof is that Peter was sent to convert the circumcised, or, the Jews, and there were few Jews in Rome at that time. All Scriptural evidence points to Peter being in Babylon, which had a very, very large population of Jews. Not hard to understand, as that is where the Jews were held in captivity!

Roman Catholicism: The Paganization of Christianity—Constantine and the Catholic Church-State

Constantine: Builder of Christendom

To suggest, as some historians (and many others with axes to grind) have done, that Constantine rescued the Christian church from persecution is fantasy. Christians had enjoyed complete tolerance in the Roman Empire from 260-302. More importantly, Christians were persecuted by the regime that Constantine constructed. …

… With its legal establishment, the Catholic Church became wealthy as well as bloody: …

Anyone that approaches this subject with an open mind can find the answers that he seeks about what is correct, and, what is wrong. But, perhaps one other thought;

www.jewishvirtuallibrary..../History/Inquisition.html

The Inquisition was a Roman Catholic tribunal for discovery and punishment of heresy, which was marked by the severity of questioning and punishment and lack of rights afforded to the accused.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition

Inquisition

This article is about the Inquisition within the Roman Catholic Church. For other uses, see Inquisition (disambiguation).

What does the Roman Catholic Church say about the Inquisition?

www.newadvent.org/cathen/08026a.htm

…. The Christian teachers of the first three centuries insisted, as was natural for them, on complete religious liberty; furthermore, they not only urged the principle that religion could not be forced on others ….. The inquisition of the Middle Ages

….. these sects were in the highest degree aggressive, hostile to Christianity itself, to the Mass, the sacraments, the ecclesiastical hierarchy and organization; hostile also to feudal government by their attitude towards oaths, which they declared under no circumstances allowable. …..

…. The great apostasy of the sixteenth century, the filtration of heresy into Catholic lands, and the progress of heterodox teachings everywhere, ….

It must be noted that the above site is an official site of the Roman Catholic Church. It also needs must be noted that the Roman Catholic Church has never apologized for the Inquisition, and, in fact, claims that what was done was done of necessity.

But when you read the above, note that the Roman Catholic Church claims that Christianity is central to and only confessed through a belief in the Trinity, and the sacraments of the church.

To understand better what was happening, go here;

www.aloha.net/~mikesch/banned.htm

Bible Possession Once Banned by the Catholic Church!

Interesting site, and explains the problems that the Roman Church was facing because people were acquiring copies of the Bible, and beginning to learn that NONE of the articles of faith of the Roman Catholic Church were from the Bible.

Were we warned about this?

2 Thessalonian 3:7: “The mystery of this lawlessness is already at work.” … So in the first century, this lawless one had begun to manifest himself.

Now, go back and review; Simon Peter versus Simon the Sorcerer

Here are a few of the unscriptural teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, all of which were picked up by her daughters (ALL so-called Protestant churches, as well as most all other so-called Christian ‘churches’) and are being taught throughout Christendom still today;

Trinity

Immortal soul

Eternal torment in hell

Hell as a place of punishment

Going to heaven

Jesus Christ is God, rather than as the Bible clearly shows that he is a mighty god

Salvation is only through the church rather than, as the Bible teaches, only through Jesus Christ

I will put up a paper titled Apostasy shortly, as well as one on The Man of Lawlessness. Enjoy.

and the "church" that was established at Rome by Simon the Sorcerer.

Good article.

I'm not sure I agree with the above quote though. I've heard the Simon Magus being substituted by Rome for Peter, from a SDA website. NOt that this disproves or proves anything. But without proof, I let it go.

It's amazing how the Church was corrupted so early. And as bad as it was back then, it's worse now. Not that it is unexpected though.

It's not just Catholicism. Protestantism is just as bad.

.

It's a fine line between being too specific and long winded and therefore too irritating to bother to read, and being too cryptic and therefore too irritating to try to interpret.

It's a forum post, not a doctoral thesis.
