PORT DEPOSIT, Md. (AP) 53;

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says a teenager beat his mother with an aluminium baseball bat because she wouldn't share her french fries.

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says a teenager beat his mother with an aluminum baseball bat because she wouldn't share her french fries with him.

Seventeen-year-old Dennis Hickman III is charged as an adult with first- and second-degree assault.

Lt. Bernard Chiominto, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, says Hickman "went berserk for a while."

The incident occurred Tuesday night. Deputies said Hickman, who lives with his mother, also slashed tires on her car and kicked the front door, knocking it off its hinges.

Hickman's 52-year-old mother, who was not identified, was treated at Union Hospital in Elkton for injuries to her head, wrist and leg.

But Critter, the little darling MAY just be misunderstood. Maybe he NEEDED those french fries and his mama was being selfish and knew he would die if he didn't have them and right then too. Guess he taught her not to buy french fries and not buy enough for him too.

Seriously, the time to whip that @$$ and straighten him out probably passed many years ago. And if he had had some of that (possible but I doubt it) he might not have turned into a nutter who would murder his mother over a few french fries.

There is more going on here than an out of control teenager.

First: we have no clue what this mother is like. There are some pretty wacked moms out there. Not suggesting she drove him to it, but her part can not be overlooked.

As for the kid: drug, alcohol and mental disorder may have and probably did play a part.

We do not know the whole story here. And I'm sure there is much to know.

Exactly. I have teenage boys and man some of their friend's moms...well I feel for their kids. And those kids are turning out just as whacked. From drug abuse to alcohol abuse, it runs the gamut.

I am sure that the article doesn't give every detail that might be relevant. But if the kid is messed up in the head, and he sure seems to be, I hope he can get straightened out before he goes off on someone else and kills them or injures them badly. I can't think of any real good excuses to beat your own mother with a bat and certainly not over a few french fries. Not unless they were some I fixed myself--ahaha. Just kidding, ain't no fries (or anything else) worth hurtin' mama over.

I don't have that much faith in the system.

No of course not but growing up with a whacked mom doesn't do much for your chances of being normal now does it.

No, and I never said it did. But all we have to go by are the facts, assuming they are facts, that have been presented in the article. We don't know from the article if his mother is a head case but there is some fairly compelling evidence that the boy just might be. Now, from the facts presented, again assuming that the story is accurate, we know that the mother didn't share her french fries with the boy. Should she have? Well yes, most of us think that parents should share food with their kids or even give them all of it if they are hungry. Should he have gone crazy and tried to kill her or injure her for refusing to give him the french fries? I think not. Without a more complete story all we can do is guess and surmise. I guess she should have given him some or all of the fries or bought him his own, assuming she had the money. I surmise that he may be a head case for going off on someone over a few french fries.

My point exactly. Hardly enough facts to pass judgment one way or the other.

The interesting thing is, at the height of the Vietnam war, Gomer Pyle had very high Nielsen ratings. In its last season, 1968-69, it was the second-highest rated show (Rowan & Martin was #1.).

The early Laugh-In's were absolutely classic, ground-breaking programming. For some reason, Gomer was just too Gomer for me at the time.

Back then, age 22, I really did have 'other priorities...'
