About 15 years ago Turtle was standing in an art gallery in a city far, far away from where he lives... "Do you like art?" a female voice asked me. I turned my head to my right.
Pow.
I had heard enough people tell me about "love at first sight" to know it existed, but I never thought it would happen to me.
Just like that, boom, I knew she was the one.
I don't believe there any is "one" for everyone. It's more like it's several people. But the chances of running into even one of them is slim indeed.
I had no idea what to say. I was speechless.
So, I decided to tell the truth.
"I looked at you," I told her, "and I knew you were the one. The only thing I could do is tell you the truth."
She smiled and looked at the floor, then looked back at me.
"I knew the same thing when I saw you," she said, "bu I'm married and have children. Sometimes we don't end up with exactly the people we should."
That's when I understood how people could end up like Fred MacMurray in "Double Indemnity" or William Hurt in "Body Heat." "All's fair in love and war," but that's not exactly true.
"I think I'd better leave," I told her. "The longer I stand here, the worse it gets."
She smiled and looked at the floor again, and I turned and walked out, and left that night.
