In four hundred years, we evolved from a planet of people who are absolutely convinced that the universe revolves around us. No inkling that the Sun doesn't revolve around us, let alone that we are but a minuscule part of a galaxy that contains roughly a hundred billion stars. If scientists are correct, if recent findings of planets that revolve around other stars are correct, there are perhaps five hundred billion worlds in this galaxy, in a universe of perhaps another hundred billion galaxies. And it is conceivable, even possible, that this universe might one day be revealed to be nothing more than an electron in a much greater universe. And here's a civilization that was absolutely clueless four or five hundred years ago about its own tiny world and the impossibly greater vastness surrounding it.

She doesn't say that things are better in terms of the issues that concern us. For example, she's been a longtime advocate for legalizing marijuana. See her wikipedia bio. She had been a student of Marxism before making Cosmos, but it's not clear that she was a proponent of communism.

Here's a copy of her speech to CSICOP in 2003, CSIOP is the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.

It's important to remember that the pro-war Cold Warriors provided government all the tools of oppression that are being used against us now. We may not always agree with those who have steadfastly resisted war and censorship, just as many would not agree with us today. But we need to recognize the common ground we share with them.

This is an important part of my intellectual progress. It's a challenge I would continue to make to G. Edward Griffin. Those who wanted to "fight" the Cold War were, in the end, unhelpful. Millions of innocent people died around the planet as Americans fought one no-win war after another in the name of "opposing" communism. And today, America is the biggest force for planned economies there has ever been in the history of the human race. And what was the result? A further entrenchment of Israel's grip on the planet, all in the name of Zionism.

Based on what I've seen of Griffin's work with the Freedom Force International, I would say that he gets it. As Ron Paul was willing to stand up and ask people to vote for Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader, it's reasonable to look at anti-Cold War activists like Ann Druyan with understanding.

~ if you can keep your lunch down through some of the obvious politcal BS spun in a lil here n there, this is a wonderful presentation that can help expand ones horizons a bit ~ a journey from the inner workings of a single living cell to a compiled image of (what we currently think) our universe looks like

I don't like Carl's views on ETs myself, he speaks a party line and practicly ridicules anyone who thinks an ET could be around now. That's not science to me. that is politicly correct action his handlers want him to perform, served nicely by this smart (smug on this topic), soft spoken, 'expert' ~ easy for the masses to accept.

things are better today in some respects. 'Common' folk have never had this much access to information in all the recorded history we know about. The war was/is for our minds ~ 'they' have been taking a big hit since the internet arrived (imo)
