Having lived cheek to cheek with Arabs for half a dozen years, I have found them averse to the kind of regimentation that we seem to get with our mother's milk.
They actively resist it and where that is not possible, they do so passively - except when it comes to prayer time. They pray with solemnity and absolute confomity. I think it is the only thing that keeps their societies from dissolving into abject anarchy.
Friend of mine now in the Pentagon did two tours in Vietnam, mostly basic training for military and police. He said it was a lost cause because they had to be taught basic hygiene.
