WICHITA, Kansas (AP)- Media reports say that abortion provider Dr. George Tiller has been shot and killed at his Wichita church.

Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion. His clinic has repeatedly been the site of protests for about two decades.

He was acquitted in March of misdemeanor charges stemming from procedures he performed, but moments after the verdict the state's medical board announced it was investigating allegations against him that are nearly identical to those the jury had rejected.

Prosecutors had alleged that Tiller had in 2003 gotten second opinions from a doctor who was essentially an employee of his, not independent as state law requires, but a jury took only about an hour to find him not guilty of all 19 counts.

Tiller, who could have faced a year in jail for even one conviction, stared straight ahead as the verdicts were read, with one of his attorneys patting his shoulder after the decision on the final count was declared. His wife, seated across the courtroom, fought back tears and nodded. The couple declined to speak to reporters afterward.

Tiller, 67, has claimed that the prosecution was politically motivated. An attorney general who opposed abortion rights began the investigation into Tiller's clinic more than four years ago, but both his successor, who filed the criminal charges, and the current attorney general support abortion rights.

Tiller has been a favored target of anti-abortion protesters, and he testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

wow a non believer calling me a heretic. I'm shocked I tell you shocked.

So according to your apparently dead brain. Killing babies is A ok. That being Pro choice is an honorable position. But someone kills the killer and it is an outrage. Get a grip on reality Rob. Tiller was a cold blooded killer and he got just what he deserved. Long overdue but finally that murderer is dead.

You on the other hand being the coward that you are condemn people who are against baby killing. I never heaard your outrage at baby murdering.

So the fair and honest conclusion is that you would prefer Tiller the killer to an innocent baby.

You would have shouted give unto us barabas.

Do you ever tire of calling people names? Do you ever grow weary of digging in your little box of venomous replies and finding labels you can stick on people? Do you ever find yourself confronting even the tiniest doubt that maybe, just maybe, you are not always right about everything and that maybe, just maybe you could possibly be wrong about something, anything, ever?

Your anger and venom are frightening enough. Your bottomless certainty about the righteousness of your moral proclamations is positively terrifying. And through all of this you proclaim yourself to be a "Christian". Amazing.

Putting labels on everyone and everything is easy, yes. It's convenient, it's handy, it's popular and often a crowd-pleaser. It's comforting to be able to take everything and slap a label on it, and then stuff it into a handy box labeled "bad". It's reflexive, it's visceral, it feels good. It makes a great substitute for actual thinking. And it does nothing to further understanding, does nothing to help solve anything. It just serves to fuel the fires of anger and retribution.

Well, no worries. The way this society and this economy are going, I think you and everyone like you will soon find themselves having all the anger and violence and retribution and hate and malice and death and destruction you can eat. I hope you get a bellyfull of it.

Abortion in Israel: Terms of Termination

A 1977 law ensures a low-cost, and in some cases free, legal abortion to any woman who fills one of four criteria:

*

She is under 18 or over 40 (cost to those in between: 1,500 shekels [$370]). *

She is carrying a fetus with a serious mental or physical defect (free). *

She claims that the fetus results from forbidden relations such as rape or incest (free) or, in the case of a married woman, that the baby is not her husband's (not free). Single women also fall under this clause, and they too must pay. *

She shows that by continuing the pregnancy, her physical or mental health would be damaged (free).

In 1980, a fifth criterion that allowed abortions for women living in economic hardship was abolished due to pressure from religious political parties.

A woman who seeks to terminate a pregnancy must appear before one of the 41 abortion committees operating in public and private hospitals around the country. These committees include three members — a physician whose field of expertise is obstetrics and gynecology; another physician who is either a family doctor, psychiatrist, internist or gynecologist, and a social worker. At least one woman must be present on each committee.

Six separate committees consider requests for termination when a fetus is beyond 24 weeks old. No hospitals in Jerusalem, however, will perform these abortions. In 1999, 19,674 applications out of 20,581 were approved (96%) and 18,785 pregnancies were terminated. In addition, 16,000 abortions were illegally performed in private doctors' clinics. In general, about 40,000 abortions are carried out in Israel every year. The Health Ministry approves about half of them, and private doctors perform the rest, without the supervision of the state and at the cost of thousands of shekels.

Health Ministry: 20,000 legal abortions performed in Israel annually By Dana Weiler-Polak

2007. Last year, 4,799 of the abortions in Israel were by means of Mifegyn, which can be taken up to the seventh week of pregnancy.

The World Health Organization has ranked Israel 21 out of 22 European countries in terms of the ratio of abortions to births. Russia was ranked first, with 1,022.4 abortions per 1,000 births, and second is Romania, with 684.6 abortions.

In 2007, 20,919 women requested abortions from the hospital committees working under the Health Ministry's aegis. The committee approved 98 percent of the requests. Of the approved requests in 2007, 55 percent were from women who were pregnant as a result of illegal sexual relations, incest, for example, or were unmarried. Another 18 percent were approved because of concerns for the mother's physical or mental health; 18 percent because of birth defects; and 9 percent due to the age of the woman, either under 17 or over 40. In 2007, 245 pregnancies that were ended were late terminations, and half of all abortions were between the 24th and 26th week.

Tiller was nothing more then a cold blooded killer.

I find myself in the rather uncomfortable position of agreeing with you, partially.

If you beat your dog you will get more grief from the "justice" system than he ever got.

It takes a special kind of cold blooded depravity to either 1) pull the baby out, breech style, where only the head is in the vagina, stick a cannula into his or her skull and suck the brains out, or 2) rip a baby to shreds and vacuum out the pieces, or 3) burn that baby alive with strong saline solution.

Did he use one "procedure", or all of them?

What the "hell" kind of "man" does things like that, and still goes to church? Is the church that depraved that they want someone like that in there? What good did it do him? What the "hell" kind of sermons did they teach?

Good riddance to a cold blooded murderer. I'm not so sure this excuses the man that murdered him, but I won't shed any tears for Tiller.

.

It's a fine line between being too specific and long winded and therefore too irritating to bother to read, and being too cryptic and therefore too irritating to try to interpret.

It's a forum post, not a doctoral thesis.

He didn't deserve any 'kangaroo justice'.

He got exactly what he begged for.

I don't know that he begged or wished for it but he got more justice--for that moment at least--than he ever dispensed. He brutalized and tortured the most innocent of all for money. And we both know where he will be spending his time.

Yeah sure, don't bother yourselves ever trying to stop the murder of innocents but go all out to punish someone who probably prevented hundreds, perhaps thousands more sadistic torture murders of the most innocent and helpless among us. Of course the "good" doctor did nothing to trigger the demand for abortion. That lives in the hearts and souls of America's families. How did it get there? Who took their will to life? Who stripped their souls? Who planted the seeds of hereditary self-denial? Who took their sense of heritage?

You can ban abortion but you can't make people want to raise families, not when their economic future is constantly unstable, deteriorating, or worse.

you appear to know the answer to this.

“A LAND WITHOUT A PEOPLE & A PEOPLE WITHOUT A LAND” is one of the most oft cited slogans in the rhetoric of political Zionism...." An example is the Jews' treatment of the Palestinians.....

Ezekiel 17:7-10 / Matthew 15:13:

"....It seems that the Jews regarded America as the[ir] New Jerusalem: “...Columbus...believed when he landed in America that God had led him to the New Jerusalem. The idea of America as the fulfilment of a biblical prophecy concerning the foundation of a spiritual Utopia on Earth was a central belief in the Rosicrucian philosophy of the seventeenth century.” (Occult Conspiracy, p.74)

THE SIX-POINTED STAR

These little known facts of history explain why the Great Seal of the United States is a highly symbolic representation of America’s designated role as a new Jewish homeland, [Psalm 2: Why do the heathen rage (i.e., plot, conspire)....] with the original 13 colonies representing the 13 tribes of Israel. The high incidence of “13’s” in the Great Seal is detailed on the website of the Philosophical Research Society founded by Manly P. Hall, Masonic author of The Secret Destiny of America.

“The significance of the mystical number 13, which frequently appears upon the Great Seal of the United States, is not limited to the number of the original colonies. The sacred emblem of the ancient initiates, here composed of 13 stars, also appears above the head of the ‘eagle.’ The motto, E Pluribus Unum, contains 13 letters, as does also the inscription, Annuit Coeptis. The ‘eagle’ clutches in its right talon a branch bearing 13 leaves and 13 berries and in its left a sheaf of 13 arrows. The face of the pyramid, exclusive of the panel containing the date, consists of 72 stones arranged in 13 rows.” From Hunt’s History of the United States (Gallery of Masonic Symbolism)

In British-Israelism, which is a Judeo-Masonic doctrine, the number 13 symbolizes the 13 tribes of Israel in accordance with the blessing of Jacob (Israel) upon his sons in Genesis 49. British Israelite teacher, Gene Scott, explains “It must be remembered the Manasseh is the thirteenth tribe. Ephraim moved into Joseph’s place and Manasseh was added to the twelve.” Furthermore, Scott claims that the tribe of Manassah founded the United States. When the number of colonies (lost tribes?) reached 13, the colonists declared independence from Great Britain as the 13 “united States of America”:

“The United States, being founded as a permanent home by the Pilgrim’s (of the tribe of Manasseh), should reflect the emblems of that tribe. It will be found that the Great Seal of the United States contains ten features of thirteen. And given that some sixteen drafts, over a time period of 159 years through which the seal was constructed, it makes coincidence impossible as an explanation for those 13’s. I know that the easy answer to the fact of all these thirteens is that there were thirteen original colonies, but this surface explanation doesn’t fit all the evidence. When the facts of the United States and the Great Seal are viewed in the context of the whole Lost Tribes teaching, it obviously fits like it belonged. The ‘coincidence’ of there being thirteen colonies doesn’t add a whit to the total picture unless it is taken to be part of the [Lost Tribes] material.”....."

Late-term abortion doctor decries Tiller killing: ‘This is a fascist movement’

By Ernest Luning 5/31/09 5:11 PM

Hours after the Sunday morning shooting death of late-term abortion doctor George Tiller in Wichita, Kan., a Boulder physician — who says he could be the only doctor in the world still performing the procedure — said Tiller’s assassination was the “absolutely inevitable consequence” of decades of anti-abortion fanaticism.

“I’m profoundly sad and I’m furious and I think the American people need to understand that we have a fascist movement in this country,” Dr. Warren Hern told The Colorado Independent on Sunday. “We don’t have to invade Iraq to find terrorists. They’re right here killing abortion doctors.”

“Every doctor that does abortions has been under an assassination threat for decades,” Hern said. “The anti-abortion movement message is, ‘Do what we tell you to do or we will kill you,’ and they do. This is a fascist movement.”

Hern laid blame for Tiller’s death at the feet of the anti-abortion movement’s encouragement of violence against abortion providers and the Republican Party’s “exploitation” of the extremist rhetoric.

“Dr. Tiller is dead by an anti-abortion assassin, and this is the absolutely inevitable consequence of 35 years of anti-abortion fanatic rhetoric and intimidation and assassination violence and exploitation by the Republican Party of this movement,” Hern told the Independent.

Hern, who described Tiller as “a good friend of mine,” said he doesn’t “know of any other doctors in the world doing late abortions like I am.” The Boulder Abortion Clinic, run by Hern since he founded the practice in 1975, has as its motto “Specializing in Late Abortions for Fetal Disorders”.

Hern declined to say whether he planned any changes to his security precautions after the killing of Tiller, who was shot to death while ushering at his Lutheran church.

Noting that Tiller is the “fifth American doctor to be assassinated,” Hern told the Los Angeles Times he’s well aware of the dangers. “I get messages from these people saying, ‘Don’t bother wearing a bulletproof vest, we’re going for a head shot.’ ”

A statement on the Boulder Abortion Clinic’s Web site addresses Hern’s concerns about safety for the clinic’s patients:

By its name and continued existence, Boulder Abortion Clinic makes a statement that women are free to make their own choices about their own lives, bodies, and family needs. I have been personally involved from the beginning of my medical career in advocacy of reproductive freedom, and I continue in this commitment. We have survived anti-abortion harassment and violence and shown our determination to provide these services in spite of everything. As a result, our patients are protected by the highest standards of safety and security when they come to my office.

They're turning this baby murderer into a martyr.

Had to expect that one. They'll milk it for all it's worth.

It's a fine line between being too specific and long winded and therefore too irritating to bother to read, and being too cryptic and therefore too irritating to try to interpret.

It's a forum post, not a doctoral thesis.

Yeah, and Obama is the head of the fascist movement in America. Baby killing doctors are some of his sycophants.

Mind you, the government sanctioned the doctors life's work by decreeing such as legal, and the medical profession holds the doctor as a member in good standing.

The government may make just about anything "legal" but that does not automatically make it lawful. Tiller would be lucky if the worst thing that ever happened to him was that bullet that killed him. I suspect that in due course he will have a lot of time to think about what got him where he is.

Good point. Try and execute them all.
