When it comes to reforming the U.S. health care system, Americans are more confident in Barack Obama (58%) and Congressional Democrats (42%) than Congressional Republicans (34%), according to a Gallup Poll released today.

Of the eight prominent health care actors, Republicans are least trusted, behind even insurance companies, who have garnered 35% of the nation's trust.

According to the study, doctors hold the confidence vote by a notable margin, winning over 73% of Americans, ahead of health care professors and researchers, at 62%.

The results come two days after President Obama delivered a major speech to the American Medical Association, pitching his reform agenda. The AMA, an influential lobby comprising of doctors, has thus far been hesitant to support the president's public health care alternative.

Also today, Republicans in Congress released their counter-proposal to the Democratic health care plan. As reported by Roll Call, it's pretty thin:

House Republicans presented a four-page outline of their health care reform plan Wednesday but said they didn't know yet how much it would cost, how they would pay for it and how many of the nearly 50 million Americans without insurance would be covered by it. [...]

Republicans who stayed at the press conference to answer questions -- the leaders made statements but didn't stay -- could not answer whether their plan would include a tax increase to pay for such costly items as refundable tax credits for low- and middle-income workers to help pay for insurance. Makes sense as the Republicans are in the vest pocket of the Insurance lobby and the Dems are only in their back pocket.

This poll must be skewed. There is fierce opposition to the socialist/communist "health care plan." I have worked in the health profession since the 70's. Health care is between a patient and his/her doctor. Who wants some governent goon dictating whether you can get an MRI or be scoped if you need to be. Many in the health care profession want no part of fed run health care. I have made plans to exit my job if the democrats get their way. I have talked to many, like me, who intend to do the same. If this idoicy passes, what you will see is the exodus of many experienced individuals from health care, and then you will have a mess and a half.

Gallup Poll

I have yet to meet a person who has been polled on any topic. Furthermore, these polling agencies can only use land line phones, not cell phones. That alone would limit the pool to mostly older folks. I don't pay attention to their results, and neither do the Rs or Ds when the poll doesn't reflect their own political bias.

Christine -- You are so right. I have never seen the economy/job situation so bad in my lifetime. My plans are for working in the oil industry. I have relatives/friends that do, and I live in Texas so that makes it somewhat more accessible. I don't care if my present salary is cut in half. The more you make, the more Obama wants anyway. The oil industry is one of the last few successful businesses in the U.S. The commies in government have not mounted a full scale assault on it yet.

All we need is for Palin to tell the government that Alaska HAS seceded, all Federal lands have been expropriated, and any oil company is free to bid on unlimited drilling rights.

Step two...Invite China and Japan in to finance the oil exploration with market dibs on any find.,

OK so I dream a lot. everything else is doom and gloom.

I would like to add some more thoughts on this matter. Health care has been greatly impacted by both legal and illegal immigration. Illegal immigraton has cost us billions and they take up space and services particularly in the border states. Some border hospitals have closed due to the influx of illegals who cannot pay. Also this unabated legal immigraton since 1965, has strained our health care system. The health care industry has always been understaffed at different periods. It takes literally years to train doctors and nurses. When you have wave after wave of third world people such as we have had since 1965, health care cannot keep up personnel wise and many of those people will not be insured. I will not even go into the variety of diseases brought in by immigrants, but be sure that has impacted our health system. What I am seeing now makes me ill, because we used to have the finest health care in the world.

Just a wild guess but government doesn't give a flying dump about "professionals." As the exodus begins - (the exodus will be mostly white. Sorry to inject race but whites really need to get used to it) - I expect nurses aides to be bumped up to RN status, RNs to be bumped up to clinical nurse practitioners, and current practitioners to de facto physician. This will give all three levels a pay boost, eliminate the need for most doctors, and allow for a more racially diverse health care industry.

Don't believe me?

I don't trust Republicans either!

Health care is between a patient and his/her doctor

You are leaving out the middle man, the elephant in the room, the health insurance industry. They determine what procedures the doctor can provide and they determine if a patient is worthy of insurance or not and the determine how much the doctor will get paid for his services.

Many doctors are already exiting because they acknowledge spending more time bickering with the health insurance companies than taking care of patients.

My wife's ob/gyn's hobby at the moment is cosmetic surgery. He's stopped taking new government insured patients, since his margin is now $5 / visit (he's fairly honest.)

I've heard this same thing, over and over, and what does the Alien suggest as a remedy? A new, bigger government program "for the sake of competition." Only a full blown asshat would believe anything this POS suggests.

I remember when I first saw the stats on pertussis(whooping cough). I could not believe it. This disease was virtually eradicated several decades ago. Third world immigration has brought it back, because third world countries do no require their children to be vaccinated before starting school. What is the point of having high standards if you don't maintain them? Our public health system which was among the best, has been compromised on the alter of PC.
