How would a new liver help with pancreatic cancer?

The story is that he had a rare form of the disease that was successfully treated with surgery.

However, having a liver transplant indicates that the cancer may have returned and spread there. I am not a doctor, though, so this is just a guess by me.

Apple being Apple, they're not saying anything more.

We lost a great BIL to pancreatic cancer, and they had the resources to go to the best clinics and hospitals that this country has to offer - to no avail.

By the time that the pain in the back is severe enough to seek help, it is too late in something like 95p/c of the cases.
