Fireworks are legal in Missouri. Some places are open all year round, but near Illinois tents are put up, filled with fireworks, and sold to people from Illinois, where the only thing legal are sparklers. I stopped at one place and bought some Black Cat firecrackers. The guy there told me he used to run a temporary tent near Illinois, and they'd get drunks in at 3 am, who would set firecrackers off in the parking lot. He also said that blacks would come over, buy hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks, then go back to Illinois, piece them out, and sell them in the black areas. I also bought some bottle rockets.

They were much more fun until JBTs started setting up stings as you drove back toward the city limits. Ahh the good old days when I was a child...drive-ins and fireworks.

I got to China town in San Francisco about 1966, for the Chinese New Year and bot $50 worth of Cats, a lot of money then for a thirteen yo. Got them back to Montclair, in the white suburbs around Oakland, where they were, naturally, illegal. Geez, they were like having gold bullion! I sold them to all the kids around, I was like Goldfinger for a month or two. Fortunately only three houses burned down.
"Satan / Cheney in "08" When I was a kid the only place to get them was at the local bowling alley, where the older kids would go to Missouri, buy fireworks, then mark them up and sell them to us. A ten-year-old buying black market Black Cat firecrackers from 17-year-old smugglers. There's humor in there somewhere.

Get this...The stores are in PA and you must show a valid drivers license to buy, however sales CANNOT be made to PA residents. So all sales must be to out of staters. The New Yorkers come by the carloads to buy, however they cannot possess them legally in NY state. As soon as they cross the border they can face heavy fines if caught. We sell em but cant buy, odd.
They hate us because were free.

And I thought CA was wacky.
Even though Missouri is considered Hillbilly Hollow populated by hicks it's actually a pretty libertarian state. All fireworks are legal, as is concealed carry, even hitchhiking on the interstates is legal. St. Louis and Kansas City stink, of course, all do all big cities, but once you get outside of them it's a pretty nice place. And it doesn't have any truly screwy laws, like not being able to buy fireworks unless you're out of state. Taxes are so low we get a lot of people smuggling cigarettes and fireworks into neighboring states.
In PA we have a minimum price for milk. It is even illegal to give it away. Across the line they can set whatever price they want using milk from same company as PA. IN PA only the state can sell hard liquor by the bottle.
