Jackson Remark Prompts Knife Threat

Suspect In Bus Confrontation Arrested

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Broward Sheriff's Office said a man's comment about the death of Michael Jackson prompted a confrontation on a Broward County Transit bus Thursday evening.

James Kiernan, 60, of Coral Springs was riding the bus near Kimberly Boulevard and State Road 7 when he received a text message saying that Jackson had died. He told the other passengers on the bus about Jackson's death.

The bus driver commented, saying Jackson should have been in jail long ago, BSO said.

"The world just lost a great musical talent," Kiernan said.

For some reason, BSO said, that comment enraged another passenger, 54-year-old Henry Wideman of North Lauderdale. Police said he told Kiernan to shut up, and Kiernan said, "I can say whatever I want."

According to BSO, Wideman started yelling profanities, pulled out a 6-inch folding knife, moved toward Kiernan and threatened him as Kiernan backed away.

The bus driver told his dispatcher of the situation and pulled over near Rock Island Road and Kimberly Boulevard to wait for police.

BSO said Wideman got off the bus and went to a nearby Quick Stop, where deputies arrested him. Wideman faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. (1 image)

# PeterPanGrownUp 30 minutes ago Here lies Michael Jackson. Born an African American, he really never liked his race - so much he altered his appearance. He lived in a lonely iconic mansion called Neverland where little boys never grow up; where a person can find escape in perpetuity. His music wasn't sufficient to drug him from the realities of life, though his status as a pop star most certainly exposed his deficiencies as a human - those insecurities, lack of internal resolve, incapable of following in the foot steps of Dr Martin Luther King. So he chose a life as sordid and wayward as a prince of theives. He lived in a glass menagerie, forged from the sand of the earth, a shock quartz which shattered when the Peter Pan story came to its end for him. Here lies Michael Jackson - a man who did not know what it means to be an adult. Ashes to ashes, the empire of introspect slowly eroded over time. And this person is regarded as some hero in culture? For what? The moon walk? Billy Jean? It is times like this that I seriously wonder about the priorities of people who give such a loser in life the status of a god. And now he will sit in the presence of God and all that fame will mean nothing. Perhaps now Jackson is healing in his soul. For the rest of us, we do well to live the fact that no man can ever replace the true master of pop - Jehovah. When my father died, it meant something - I had lost the man who brought me into this world and shared a wisdom one always longs for. I feel sorry for Jackson, whose wisdom evaded him once the boy moved past his ABCs.

Low testosterone / low threat level. A great TV black, especially for teen girls.
