Dozens indicted in SoCal for Medi-Cal fraud scheme

LOS ANGELES -- The U.S. attorney's office has indicted more than 40 people in Southern California linked to a ring that allegedly defrauded the Medi-Cal system out of millions of dollars.
Prosecutors scheduled a press conference for later Thursday morning to announce what they call the largest Medi-Cal fraud case ever filed, in terms of number of defendants. They say the fraud relates to health care provided to handicapped children in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
U.S. attorney spokesman Thom Mrozek says the indictment was filed last month, and about 20 of the 42 defendants are expected to be arrested by late Thursday morning. Mrozek says the others are not flight risks and will be given court dates.
