GAINESVILLE – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Thursday arrested a veteran Hall County deputy on aggravated child molestation charges.

Michael D. Nix, 42, a 20-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, is accused of molesting a 3-year-old girl that his wife had been baby-sitting in their Clermont home.

The allegation was made Monday evening, reports said, and the GBI was immediately notified. Nix was placed on administrative leave.

The bond for a former sheriff’s deputy charged in connection with the murder of a former sheriff, will not be reduced.

A judge denied a request by former Harlan County Sheriff Deputy Roger Hall to reduce his one million dollar bond.

Hall is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and complicity to murder in the death of former sheriff Paul Browning Junior. Three other men are already serving prison time for their roles in the 2002 murder.

Hall’s trial is set for September 28th. The prosecutor is seeking the death penalty.

Choy

Choy

Choy faces charges of sexual battery and kidnapping to commit a crime. Prosecutors say he forced a hit-and-run suspect whom he arrested on April 1, 2007, to perform oral sex on him in exchange for her freedom.

DNA evidence linked Choy to that woman. She reported the incident to authorities. Choy hasn’t been charged with a crime against the second woman, in jail on unrelated charges of driving without a valid license and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Defense attorney Norman S. Cannella Sr. argued against the second woman’s testimony, saying it was unnecessary because the state already had a “slam dunk” case against Choy with a lot of evidence. The second woman’s testimony would inflame jurors, he told the judge.

KENT COUNTY — Keith Kazelskis is the former Kent County Sheriff’s deputy charged with a felony Wednesday for allegedly stealing cash from an elderly man he befriended, sheriffs officials said.

Kazelskis, 36, was arraigned in Rockford District Court on a charge of larceny over $1,000. He was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Kent County sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Kelley said detectives began investigating the larceny complaint on June 24 after a 71-year-old man reported money stolen from his house.

An off-duty Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with misdemeanor sexual battery, the sheriff’s office said Monday.

Deputy John Isaacks Jr. was charged in connection with an incident shortly before 3 p.m. June 21 at the Walmart store in Lincolnton. The sheriff’s office did not give details on the allegations in the case.

Isaacks is scheduled to make his first court appearance July 21 in Lincolnton.

FORT VALLEY — A Peach County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with five counts of possession of child pornography on his home computer as well as a laptop at his residence.

Aubrey Touchton, 55. of Fort Valley is free on bond after his arrest by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation last week, said Craig Rotter, assistant special agent in charge of the Perry GBI office.

Touchton, who has been with the sheriff’s office about two and a half years, was employed as a courthouse security guard and as a school resource officer, Rotter said.

Officer Rod Johnson, who works as liaison to City Commissioner Daisy Lynum’s office, was charged last week with two counts of battery in the off-duty incident. He was placed on paid leave yesterday.

An investigation concerning Johnson’s actions was launched by police on April 16, a day after the offense was reported.

Orlando officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of S. Kirkman Road around 8:30 p.m. on April 15 on a report of a battery. Details about the incident were not released because it is an ongoing investigation, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Barbara Jones.

Crafton Council voted Wednesday night to continue the suspension of a 15-year-veteran of the police force who was arrested last week in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Pittsburgh.

Patrolman Donnie L. Breeden, 38, of Green Tree, was suspended with pay following his arrest Friday by city police officers who charged him with involuntary manslaughter and causing an accident involving death or personal injury in connection with the death of David Hall of Moon.

Crafton Mayor Susan O’Connell said she immediately suspended Breeden following his arrest.

“It’s a personnel issue and we’re very, very restricted as to what we can say about it,” said O’Connell, who explained that the suspension was not made public before last night’s meeting because no one asked her about it.
