Title: The Year Was 1947

The year was 1947 Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little over 60 years ago, witnesses claim that an unidentified flying object (UFO) with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico . This is a well known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies and organizations.

However, what you may NOT know is that in the month of April 1948, nine months after that historic day, the following people were born:

Albert A. Gore, Jr.
Hillary Rodham
John F. Kerry
William J. Clinton

Howard Dean
Nancy Pelosi
Dianne Feinstein
Charles E. Schumer
Barbara Boxer

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep and jackasses?

I certainly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It did for me.

Poster Comment:

Just got this in my email from a friend. I thought it was very funny but I am not certain that the people mentioned were alll born in '47. With that disclaimer out of the way I still thought it was a good laugh.

Yeah, and that is why I put that disclaimer in it. I hadn't checked to see when they were born and the friend who sent this is always forwarding stuff to me that "ain't quite right." Not that she means any harm, a lot of people do that. And if it had been anything important I would have checked it for accuracy before I posted it but it was a joke and meant to be taken for one (I think).

Not that I rely on snopes for much of anything but I suppose they can be trusted enough to say when someone was born (although, in Obama's case not WHERE he was born). And according to the article there about this particular email there was only one of them born in approximately the right time frame.

My friend who sent it to me is always sending me stuff that she probably wouldn't forward if she would check it out. I told her about something she sent one time that was one of those old wive's tales or spam that people can't resist passing on to everyone in their address book. And she seemed to get upset over it so I never tell her anymore that a lot of what she sends "just ain't so." Not worth hard feelings.

We have a different view I suppose. I would much rather every sinner (politician or whatever--all have sinned and come short of the glory of God so the Bible says) would repent and no one would go to hell. I used to tell people to go to hell on a more or less regular basis but I never say that anymore. That is not to say that I "like" politicians* or that I don't mind their criminal activity and their treason. And I think that they should be tried and punished for those things. But I don't wish hell on anyone.

*I do like some people that are, in my opinion, incorrectly referred to as politicians. I do indeed like statesmen but there are precious few of those.

How do you feel about those that, for whetever reason, refuse to repent to their fellow human beings?

How's that for a loaded and possible prickly question? :)

In 2007, the FBI reported on concern about white supremacists recruiting soldiers, saying "hundreds" of neo-Nazis were in the active military. But in April, a Department of Homeland Security report on extremism that reiterated much the same point was widely criticized by veterans groups and some conservative politicians as being unpatriotic, leading the Justice Department to retract the DHS report.

Critics acknowledge that extremism in the Army is a touchy political subject.

I believe that people should acknowledge the wrong(s) they have done to others, apologize and make amends to the best of their ability. But I suppose you want to know if I think that those who refuse to repent to "fellow human beings" are going to heaven? Not up to me. That depends on their relationship with the Creator (God). But if their relationship with him is what it should be they will be quick to do their best to make amends to anyone they have hurt.

I was really thinking more about who and or why a person must/might repent to, let alone for what. Start repenting to just anyone and they'll own you, right?

I don't think so. Repenting means to apologize for the wrong things you have done and to do the best you can not to do them again. Being human means that you will make mistakes, you will hurt others and you will sin just about every day you live. But the good news is that God knows we are not perfect and is quick to forgive if we will but ask. Your fellow humans are not always so quick to forgive and that hurts sometimes if you are sincere in your apology. But it happens to all of us. Sometimes people just won't forgive you and you have to learn to accept that. Not easy but it is part of the human condition. If we won't forgive those who hurt us how could we reasonably expect God to forgive us?

No, I am not saintly. Never have claimed to be anything other than just a man. I can understand people's outrage at the murder of the innocent. I share it but know there is a just judge in charge and he will take care of it in his time and in his way. And you can count on that.

Of course you can. God's forgiveness is available to any who will repent and accept. You may always have humans who won't forgive you for one reason or another but that is not true with God. And his forgiveness and your acceptance of the sacrifice Christ made on your behalf is what will get you into heaven. Not whether someone else forgives you or not.

The thing that most of us cannot understand is the unconditionality of God's love for his children.

It's a love that passes our understanding, or comprehension.

Only by acceptance and faith, can we come to know a bit of what it means.

Down here, the mirror is very dark and cloudy.

Well said, Jim. There was a preacher I used to listen to--operative words being used to listen to--who, in one sermon may have caused more hurt than he could ever realize. Someone had committed suicide and he was talking about it and was adamant that the person was in hell. He couldn't have known that without knowing the circumstances--primarily whether the person had already asked and been forgiven of his sins and then, for reasons of mental or physical pain couldn't take it anymore. I don't believe I ever listened to that one again.

Another preacher I used to know, one who is dead now but was a great guy, went to see a man whose son had killed himself. Of course the man was grieving and he thought his son was surely condemned and in hell but Jimmy (the preacher I knew) asked the man one simple question. And it was, "Did he stop being your son?" That one simple question probably comforted that man and gave him hope because if his son was right with God before he snapped he didn't stop being God's son either.
