CAMBRIDGE, MA - Sgt. James Crowley, the policeman at the center of Harvard professor Henry Gates' arrest controversy, has issued an official apology nearly two weeks after the incident occurred. In a written statement released through the Cambridge Police Media Office, Crowley admitted the entire controversy could have been avoided if he were not white, and that he should have called for backup from an African-American officer. Racist Policeman James Crowley "I didn't stop to realize it was my race that was inflaming the situation." Crowley said in the statement. "I should have quietly allowed Mr. Gates to berate me until an officer of a less offensive race arrived, and for that, I apologize." Professor Gates was less than impressed with the apology. "He forgot he was white? I don't think so - I kept reminding him." Gates said during a break from his class 'Race, Gender, Class and Ethnicity in the Early Films of Spike Lee'. "But he's right about one thing: he should have let me finish my speech. I didn't even get to quote Farrakhan." Cambridge Police spokesmen say it has implemented policy to avoid multiracial encounters in the future. "Our 911 operators have been instructed to inquire as to the race of both the victim and perpetrator." said Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas. "We will dispatch the appropriate officer accordingly."

Not that it makes any difference but I was attempting to change "daily redundancy" to Daily Redundancy (because they use the caps at the source) and it posted without me clicking on the send it or post it or whatever.

In 2007, the FBI reported on concern about white supremacists recruiting soldiers, saying "hundreds" of neo-Nazis were in the active military. But in April, a Department of Homeland Security report on extremism that reiterated much the same point was widely criticized by veterans groups and some conservative politicians as being unpatriotic, leading the Justice Department to retract the DHS report. Critics acknowledge that extremism in the Army is a touchy political subject. Thanks. Just trying to keep up with Rev. Wright and Prof. Gates.

And if Gates had been some drunk white mope running off at the mouth the way Gates was, they would have probably given him a "tune up" before they cuffed him. Gates should be thankful he didn't get tazed and beat down. Lots of white people have gotten "the treatment" for less provocation.

What Crowley should do--at least it is what I think he should do--is to decide he had more important business to take care of than having a beer with a couple of fascist racists. Like bathing the dog or washing his hair. I can think of a lot of things that would take precedence over the Obamasiah and his professor comrade.
