Title: LP NOTICE: Server crash, downtime: donations are needed

Hi guys;

We had a hardware malfunction, and our sysop has jerry-rigged a repair.

One of the fans that cools the system/ motherboard (?) malfunctioned and died. The motherboard overheated and the entire system shut down.

We do not know yet if irrepairable damage has occurred on the motherboard. If we have more crashes we will need to replace the motherboard.

We did do a memory upgrade which should help the processor from overworking, and with that and the jerry rig, it may hold for a while. The memory was purchased a while back but this is the first time we've been inside the facility to have it installed in our server.

I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for donations so if the motherboard crashes we can quickly replace it.

Service calls are $300 for one hour and $125 an hour for each additional hour and an appointment has to be made. Having some funds available for these repairs will ensure the downtime is as minimal as possible.

Since we have not had a decent fundraiser in sometime due to the system instability (our last fundraiser was disrupted after 2 hours) we need to raise money now.

I paid the $425 from my personal funds. If we need a follow up repair visit, we can't depend on me having the funds available from my personal account.

I may or may not be able to monitor this thread as a fundraising thread, as I don't want to keep the thread too active - and crash the system.

Right now I'm a little concerned about ongoing operations until we get the fan replaced and know if the motherboard was heat damaged.

I am sorry for having to ask you all for donations during these hard times. However, we still owe our ISP funds in arrears of about $800 plus a couple months of usage for about $1200 total. They have been very understanding but they have bills too, and we do need to pay them. It's a bit embarrassing to have to ask them for assistance to access the server when we owe them so much.

I hope we can raise about $2000 to $3000 to clear our bills, have funds to pay bandwith fees, and have some funds available for necessary repairs.

Thanks and I'll keep you apprised of our situation as I get more information...unless the system crashes. At that point, you'll know that repairs will have to be made.

Thanks everyone!

I will most likely contribute 10 bucks or so,but you don't know me very well if you think I'm going to contribute 1000 bucks to anybody.

BTW,what's wrong with Goldi recovering her operating expenses?

Or even making a profit from her investment?

Do YOU work for free?

BTW,what's wrong with Goldi recovering her operating expenses?...Christine doesnt charge us anything, thats why we are here, we are cheap.

Or even making a profit from her investment? Profit, good heavens with so many free loaders, Goldi would never break even.

Do YOU work for free? Not really, been retired very long time but I did work for free for four years for that outfit you love. $72 bucks a month.

By the way Pete, you see that fine hospital that took out a grunts liver and he lost both legs???? I was there when that place opened, doctors were all quacks that could not make it on the outside.

Good for her! Does that mean everybody is supposed to provide you with anything you want for free?

Do YOU work for free? Not really, been retired very long time...

Ok,so why do you think Goldi,or even JR,should be required to work for free?

By the way Pete, you see that fine hospital that took out a grunts liver and he lost both legs????

No,but it saddens me to say I'm not surprised. After all,it's "free" medical care.

I wouldn't trust that lying bitch. Seems like every time someone is banned it is not for the reasons stated.

Answer me this, why is a person who clearly made death threats on the forum allowed to continue posting there? Why is it that some posters can break all the "rules" with immunity while others can't sneeze without getting the boot?

I can answer that one.

According to Goldi, it's because the special ones were provoked and are only defending themselves.

Any critical or questioning response to a "special one" constitutes an attack and an attempt at censorship, thus banning is completely justified to allow Free Speech to flourish at LP.

And no, I'm not making any of this up. She actually said this, although in different words.

the special ones were provoked and are only defending themselves.

Anyone who knows my posting style knows I don't provoke anyone. Certainly not enough to warrant death threats. My only crime was I caught a "special one" stealing another's work. That and I once held a job as a lobbyist for a agricultural nonprofit. I was banned and she subsequently lied about why. They all pretended to be friends and then stabbed me in the back.

But yes, you are correct, those are the reasons given. Sad that people give her money to continue such propaganda.

I want to know why those posters who liked me and my posting style stayed there and allowed the injustice done to me stand. Why do they allow posting on any one site be more important than friendship? Where were the people protesting my and many others bannings?

I liked you just fine, although I'm not sure what a posting style is or what yours was. That doesn't mean we are joined at the hip, though.

Why do they allow posting on any one site be more important than friendship?

Friends are people who visit you,and who you visit. You share things and times together in real life. People who will risk their lives for you if necessary and do all sorts of little things for you even when it isn't necessary. People you have more in common with than just political viewpoints.

People on internet discussion boards are just people you are friendly with, not real friends. There is no reason to get your feelings hurt if some you considered to be friends didn't quit LP in outrage and follow you over here. Many may not even know what happened.

I am honestly not trying to be rude, but if you can't understand this you need to spend a little less time in front of a monitor and more time in real life.

Neither one of you seems to understand what I'm about. I am an activist. I've done rallies at the capitol etc. I meet my internet friends in real life if possible. I do things with them. Many people here know who I am and what I do, not just as farmfriend on the internet.

It is this interaction that has gotten me in trouble though. There was a member of this forum who accused me of trying to garner personal information for nefarious reasons. I am who I am on and off the web.

You don't want to me my friend and just keep it at internet acquaintances, fine. I can live with that. But when I count someone as a friend I hold to the definition you gave for my internet friends as well. I think that is why it hurts so much when others pretend to be friends but really aren't because well it's just the internet after all.

I want to be your friend. More than that, I want to be your best friend. And I think through time I have proven that I admire your opinions and considerations as you you strike me as a courageous and bonafide person not just capable of but with ample capacity to suggest honest political opinions with a spirit of individual determinism. Farmfriend, you have more enthuse in a single post than piles of posts by many people exemplfying grand standards of perspective which I love to see and cherish.

Never think of me as ever hurting or harming you in any way. I think the world of you; you are beautiful and one of the most creative posters I have run across on the Internet.

You see, this is the problem of the Internet.... some wayward, out of pocket BS is steamrolling down the highway which is a GODDAMNED LIE.

I have never met Farmfriend although I have always wanted to. I love her for her political wit and enthusiasm not just on Freedom4um but on several other chat sites as well that she and I have discussed politics upon for years before ever seeing your nickname tonight.

You are disgusting to me. You know nothing about the history or recent considerations other than making rude and obviously silly remarcks.

Take heart buck, you have always been sweet to me and I pay no attention to wayward comments designed to spur contention. Especially now with so many people dropping by from LP.
