The anti-Obama crowd says that "medical decisions should be made by doctors and patients" --- but, at the present moment, that isn't happening. Health care decisions are being made by insurance company bureaucrats and the bean counters for hospitals and HMOs. The newspapers have had plenty of stories of people who had to go to India because they couldn't get their insurance companies to pay for various forms of surgery. And stories of people who lost their jobs -- because the insurance company told their boss that it wouldn't renew a group health plan unless it could stop paying for someone's very sick kid.
And as for doctors and patients making decisions without bureaucratic interference -- what happens now in much of the US if that decision is for an abortion? Yeah, I thought so.
