There is a glitch here somewhere. The link to your homepage when you create a new post looks kinda like this: freedom4um.com/cgi-bin/homepage.cgi?h=884 But the link to a home page from a reply on a thread looks rather like this: freedom4um.com/cgi-bin/homepage.cgi?hid=884 Note the lone h in the post link, vs the hid in the reply link.

Seeing THE General brought a tear to my eye.
As will this picture of the family crypt beneath Lee Chapel at Washington and Lee University: Traveller is buried just outside the chapel. I think it's fitting that they are resting close to each other seeing as they were linked so closely together in life.
He is an incompetent murderer of his own men. He threw them into a damn meat grinder for nothing. Absolutely nothing. If he hadn't fucked up royally at Gettysburg, fucked up many times, the south could have finished it there. But NOOOOooooooo. Competence was too much to ask for I guess. I could have done a better job than he did there. And I know little about tactics. His own men should have shot him in the kneecaps and hung him slowly for what he did to them. .
General Lee and other generals did not have reliable intelligence about enemy troop strength and positions beyond the immediate battlefield. Plus, they were deliberately cautious about their resources, not wanting to squander troop strength and lives. We know more now about what could have been achieved than they themselves knew at the time of battle.

That is not a reason but an excuse. Whose fault was it that their intel sucked? Who decided to proceed in spite of the lack of intelligence? They lost that battle before it even started. It never should have been fought because it was fought on the norths terms, and you do not fight on your enemies terms or on ground of their choosing. Too many good and extremely brave men died needlessly and their deaths can be laid at Lees' feet. .
