(Palo) We are lucky for the hospitality of 4um, their owner, Christine, and their kind posters Here is the email from Goldi which was forwarded on to me We have assessed the damage and will be replacing most of the parts that run the server. The heat damaged pretty much everything. The software may also be corrupted, and we will have to go back to our last good copy of a backup. We may lose some of the database, so when we come back up we may lose the past few weeks of posts. My best guess is 7 to 10 days downtime (max) Goldi
I am not on email with Goldi, but another poster is and was kind enough to forward me Goldi's email
so I would know what was going on and could share it with others
It looks like we will be on 4um for a while so I want to express my gratitude to 4um for their hospitality to us

Katz's was about 5 blocks from where I lived in East Village Katz's has good knishes if you don't want a sandwich I don't know how to describe what a knish is, I leave it up to Jethro Love, Palo
A knish is a thick potato pancake fried on the outside and softer on the inside. We'd slice them in half and put mustard in the middle. Ummmmm....
Houston St. In Manhattan it's pronounced "How's dun" but in Texas it's "Hugh's ton". Just like in Egypt where it's "Kye row" (Cairo) but in Illinois it's "Kay row". Why is that Yankees (in NY and Ill) can't seem to get with the program? ;)
Houston Street (pronounced "HOW-stin") is named for William Houstoun, who was a Delegate to the Continental Congress for the State of Georgia from 1784 through 1786 and to the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787. The street was christened by Nicholas Bayard III, whose daughter, Mary, was married to Houstoun in 1788 The couple met while Houstoun, a member of an ancient and aristocratic Scottish family, was serving in the Congress. Bayard cut the street through a tract he owned in the vicinity of Canal Street in which he lived, and the city later extended it to include North Street, the northern border of New York's east side at the beginning of the 19th Century. The current spelling of the name is a corruption: the street appears as Houstoun in the city's Common Council minutes for 1808 and the official map drawn in 1811 to establish the street grid that is still current. Good to be here....looking forward to Libertypost being back up sooner rather than later, but I am happy for the opportunity to post on another forum in the meantime.
Why don't you contribute a few bucks to Goldie so you can get out of here?
It is my understanding that the problem right now is not money, but equipment and the time it will take to replace worn out hardware and possibly some software. If, when the site goes back up Goldi requests funds, I will donate. I hope others do as well. Have a wonderful weekend.
How did she raise the money to pay for it when her site is down I guess all LP's posters are on other sites now

I was on First Avenue and 5th Street
Katz's is on Houston Street (which is same as 1st Street)
and one block East of First Avenue (Avenue A)
blocks in Manhattan are tiny -- so it was 5 minute walk
no one has car in Manhattan
I notice the kosher deli around corner from me in Tucson has knishes
so I bet Austin has them too
he has genius for food
