(Palo) We are lucky for the hospitality of 4um, their owner, Christine, and their kind posters
I am not on email with Goldi, but another poster is and was kind enough to forward me Goldi's email
so I would know what was going on and could share it with others
It looks like we will be on 4um for a while so I want to express my gratitude to 4um for their hospitality to us
Love, Palo

Here is the email from Goldi which was forwarded on to me

We have assessed the damage and will be replacing most of the parts that run the server. The heat damaged pretty much everything.

The software may also be corrupted, and we will have to go back to our last good copy of a backup.

We may lose some of the database, so when we come back up we may lose the past few weeks of posts.

My best guess is 7 to 10 days downtime (max)

I am not a techie so I have no independent judgment about how long this would take
it sounds like Goldi is estimating 1 to 2 weeks?
I am happy being on 4um now
it's a nice change to change forums
and I have friends here

I am on Sibel Edmonds email list
and I see she has heads up about a radio program she is hosting
I will go to the link she gave, and post the info about radio program she wants to share

It's isn't often that life offers people opportunities to change things. As the years pass us by, the silly spats and arguments that once seemed important are long gone and forgotten. Given this moment in America's history, it's time to turn the page, move on, and in some cases agree to disagree.

I just posted Sibel's article from her Blog telling us how to listen to her radio show
the radio show is posted, Sibel supplies link to hear it
And the email from Sibel arrived only 1 hour ago (I am on her email list)
so 4um posters are first to hear about it

It had to come with a big kosher dill (very crisp please), a side of cold slaw and if you were lucky, a celery tonic. Now that was NYC!

Katz's was about 5 blocks from where I lived in East Village
I was on First Avenue and 5th Street
Katz's is on Houston Street (which is same as 1st Street)
and one block East of First Avenue (Avenue A)
blocks in Manhattan are tiny -- so it was 5 minute walk
no one has car in Manhattan

Katz's has good knishes if you don't want a sandwich
I notice the kosher deli around corner from me in Tucson has knishes
so I bet Austin has them too

I don't know how to describe what a knish is, I leave it up to Jethro
he has genius for food

I'm there dude!

We had two great ones at one time "Rose's" (I have her cook book), and Goldberg's. I am sure there were others as Portland has a robust Jewish Community. (Sen. Ron Wyden anyone? - Take him - pleasssssse. Although even his wife couldn't stand him.) We now have Kornblatt's which is pretty decent, but not as good as Rose's or Goldberg's in their prime. Rose, originally she had a restaurant in NYC but moved out here where her kids had moved to, retired (now R.I.P.), and Golberg's made a couple of bad decisions and went T.U..

I was going to make real Half-sour dills this year but my timing was off - the pickles were ready before I had the gear to do it right.

LOL I learned what bar b q is here in Tucson
it's good for you to learn what a knish is :)
What if you found yourself on Houston Street and Avenue A
and there was Katz's
if it weren't for 4um you wouldn't know you could go in and order a kasha knish

it isn't much bigger than a taco
but it is square
my high school boyfriend's mother told me her husband
when they were both high school age (Seward Park High School on Lower East Side)

her husband Morris had a knish hot cart (like a hot dog hot cart)
but by the time I lived on Lower east Side, you had to go to Katz's for knish
I never saw a knish hotcart

you could get potato knish, sauerkraut knish, or kasha knish
I bet a sauerkraut knish is good
altho potato knish is standard

I guess they cost whatever a taco cost back then

it's the same idea, a little snack

Love, Palo

All modesty aside I make a pretty killer Carrot Cake myself. It helps to have a food processor - I basically pulverize the carrots and use Cake Flour. It gives it a very fine grain - not the coarse grain of most Carrot Cakes. The batter looks soupy but it bakes up just fine.

A food processor makes short work of grating spuds. I don't know how I would make Pesto without it. I sure am not going to make it the old fashioned way with a mortar and pestle.

The Amish know good food. I like it where I am, but living near an Amish community would be a good thing in a Social Breakdown. The Amish, not relying on modern technology, would survive - as long as the locals protected them from the Human Wolves. Being a pacifist has its drawbacks. It only works in a stable society.

About the only thing that we have here is guys with their dead pig products (Hot Dogs), in a bun, and the customer gets to select the condiments to mask the taste. For a buck, and however much you want to tip out, how wrong can you go?

It's garbage, but once a month? What does it matter?

Hebrew National baby - the only Dog I eat anymore (except the rare Niman Ranch Dog - no nitrates). All beef and great taste for a junk meat product. Mustard and Onions and I'm in heaven. Oh, a cold beer helps.

o no no. There is a great drive through place across the street that has real food. Adalberto's. I mean this is California for God's sake. If you can't get good Mexican food here you can't get it any where.

I used to love the food at the original Jim Boy's on Harbor and the one in downtown Sac wasn't half bad either, but since they've become a chain the quality has gone way downhill.

Houston St.

In Manhattan it's pronounced "How's dun" but in Texas it's "Hugh's ton".

Just like in Egypt where it's "Kye row" (Cairo) but in Illinois it's "Kay row".

Why is that Yankees (in NY and Ill) can't seem to get with the program? ;)

that was there before Sam Houston in Texas was

(Palo) OK I looked up Houston Street on WIKI

Houston Street (pronounced "HOW-stin") is named for William Houstoun, who was a Delegate to the Continental Congress for the State of Georgia from 1784 through 1786 and to the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787.

The street was christened by Nicholas Bayard III, whose daughter, Mary, was married to Houstoun in 1788 The couple met while Houstoun, a member of an ancient and aristocratic Scottish family, was serving in the Congress.

Bayard cut the street through a tract he owned in the vicinity of Canal Street in which he lived, and the city later extended it to include North Street, the northern border of New York's east side at the beginning of the 19th Century.

The current spelling of the name is a corruption: the street appears as Houstoun in the city's Common Council minutes for 1808 and the official map drawn in 1811 to establish the street grid that is still current.

In those years, the Texas hero Sam Houston, for whom the street is sometimes incorrectly said to have been named, was an unknown teenager in Tennessee.

"Don't Tread on Me", originally a war cry of Benjamin Franklin during America's fight for independence, has come to symbolize the American spirit. It first appeared on the Gadsen flag (named for and by General Christopher Gadsen) which featured the slogan below a coiled rattlesnake that was ready to attack. The snake (along with the slogan) came to symbolize America as an animal that would never strike first, but when provoked, would never give in. Today, it also symbolizes and celebrates personal independence and perseverance.

he pointed to the buildings on west side of Broadway below Astor Place
and just north of Houston Street
and said that John Hancock had 99 year lease on them
John Hancock had leased them from the City for something like one dollar,
and the city was so glad when the 99 years were up
hahaha I guess those buildings cost a billion dollars now

LP is a nice site and all, but this one seems much more user friendly and much less....1999-ish.
Editing your posts, how quaint a notion!
I suspect I'll be sticking around here after LP comes back up, though I won't abandon LP to its fate just yet.

Hi SOL
every cloud has a silver lining
it is hospitable of 4um to take us in, and for their posters to be so gracious to us
I have read many of your posts on LP, they are intelligent, interesting, perceptive
and you are definitely in sync with the liberty-loving posters on 4um
(this forum could have been designed with you in mind)
I think you would make a nice addition here

LP still works for me
I am such a nut, it is best for me to be on an all-viewpoints forum
plus I like learning how others see things
I had no idea what the culture wars were
until the David Letterman/Sarah Palin spat broke out

for me David Letterman is just an entertainer who made a bad joke
I was stunned to discover how many on LP see him as the enemy

Love, Palo

(Palo) War, you work on Wall Street, do you think this is true?
(that John Hancock had that 99 year lease on all those buildings on lower Broadway, and paid such tiny money)

(War) Yes I do.

That is interesting you think it is true
hahaha NYC must have gone crazy
if he got those leases in 1825 -- I am just guessing
and the rent was so tiny
then the City had to wait till 1924 before the lease was up
and they could charge real money
I saw those buildings they are very valuable and in prime location
LOL John Hancock had talent for getting a good deal :)
Love and kisses, Palo

was he a banker? or business man?
I just know him as first signer of Declaration of Independence

I have relatives in California that keep trying to get me to mail them NC Bar B Que.

They evidently have not tried the SantaMaria, or maybe they are just catsup lovers lol

But I think there are many good BBQ styles, most reflect the taste of the foods grown in that particular area. The best BBQ sauce I ever tasted was made by a now deceased neighbor from a recipe she obtained in Italy. Not sweet either. I wish I could get ahold of that recipe, I would be rich.

Huh? Where do you get that from? I have never been handed a barb b que with ketchup or anything else on it.

The best BBQ sauce I ever tasted

What does the sauce have to do with it? Everybody adds garnish to suit their own tastes, but we were talking about the taste of the actual barb b que itself, not sauces.

How do you get away from the sauce when in many cases it is laddled and mopped on the meat from the time it put in the smoker and presented as authentic BBQ?? I prefer BBQ without anything but salt and pepper, but that Italian recipe as either a marinade or a garnish was devine.

Beats me because I have never seen it. The only thing I have ever seen added was vinegar, and I love vinegar. Which is why I like the western NC over the eastern NC version.

The cole slaw, ketchup, and other garnishes were always added by the customer.

When your own party is as statist and big government as your opponents party, there are no issues to discuss, therefore you have to lock on to meaningless issues such as this in order to try and motivate your side.

O my sweet darling
my dad was ultra leftist (and dogmatic)
I was raised that way
when I was in college CCNY, I was in groups that were so far left
we saw liberals as the enemy
(we called them cop-outs, and accused them of co-opting us)

when I married at 25 my husband succeeded in turning me into a liberal
"You were a hard nut to crack" he said afterwards

but when I moved to Tucson, I had no friends here at first
my husband was going to art school
I was New Yorker who had not learned how to drive
I was trapped in house during long endless afternoons

I began to watch the news for first time
and I made the big decision to put the truth ahead of my ideology
so a whole new world came into place

yes when I joined forums at Y2K, all my ideas were still liberal
I didn't know any others but I was open minded

O Pete it was so interesting for me learning all the other positions on things
but what affected me the most
was the passion for liberty
I had always been an idealist (since I was in diapers)
my dad was idealist too, altho it was civil rights, stop the bomb, and help the poor
the one area I knew nothing about was individual liberty
this is what I learned from my fellow posters on forums
I owe everything to them, I went from being a socialist to a libertarian because of them
I now put individual liberty above every other value

isn't that interesting Pete, I just realized it now
it was the posters on forums who introduced me to new values
it's a great gift to me
because I believe they are true and infinitely valuable
all my love to you Pete
and thank you for your loving post to me
Hugs add kisses, Palo

Have you seen that cartoon of the White House with "owned by Goldman Sachs" on the gate? Too funny.

LOL Goldman Sachs now owns our government lock stock and barrel
every act they take now is to serve Goldman Sachs
I am assuming Goldman Sachs just owns the Dem Party, not the GOP
I will vote to put in GOP Congress in 2010
hoping they will stand up to the Goldman Sachs owned White House
The Republicans in Congress were great during Impeachment
esp. in the House, I know they were weak in the Senate
but after Bush took Office, the Pubbies shrank back to being mice again
they let the Dems in Congress bully them totally
and didn't demonstrate any of the principle and courage they had demonstrated during Impeachment

so what are the chances if we put them in charge of Congress in 2010
they will stand up to the Goldman Sachs owned Obama admin ?
is it 50-50 or less?
OK I'll give my guess, 10% chance they will come thru for the people
but here's hoping for a miracle :)
Love, Palo

LOL I am still waitng for proof copy of my novel to arrive
it took me 3 whole months to do all the work for formatting it for paperback book
my friend Helen did the cover
they had told me it costs them $12.50 for 302 pages and binding
so I put down price as $1.50 over (I made it $13.95) -- we split the royalty of the $1.50 over the cost of book
but I just discovered if I order their ProPlan for $40
I can bring down price of book to $8.95!!
that would be great
people could afford it
even with Amazon shippng price it would not be that high

but to change the price to $8.95 I have to figure out how to do it at Bowker, that is where you order the ISBN number
plus at the place which is publishing it
Wish me luck at figuring out how to change it at both places
Also I have to figure out what a barcode is and how to order that
LOL publishing your own book is not so easy
But a godsend, if you are willing to do all the work yourself, it is free
(except for ISBN number which costs a lot)

Add all of those together and you have a flock of sheep.

Paramount, they have not accepted the fact that government (all government) is the enemy.

Not all of us at LP are knuckle draggers, Cyni. And imho, limited government can be your friend. It's the lawyers that are fucking things up.

Agreed...

That was intended to irritate the guilty.

This is one thing I like about this forum, the main theme is the government is the enemy and that titles and party labels are totally meaningless.

Once a person progresses to that platform, thinking and discussing becomes easier and interesting. As soon as someone raises a party label, the discussion is ruined.

Buck, knock off this biligerent diatribe. Why are you being such an a$$wipe to Palo anyway?

To paraphrase Palo is how to regard her posts and perhaps in real life. I shall do it right now:

goo goo, lala, gaggle
gaagaa, kiki-wiki-silly
soso, oneabe, wove-e-dovey
wanna-tonna-bebe.

Love from my deep most
heart of hearts pouring
infinite love abounding
around the Earth.

Yours in total conviction,
love again and love forever,

So why do people like that scare you so much you are afraid to debate them and maybe show them the error of their ways?

We get banned for confronting the inner sanctum of LP. I got banned when Mel published my home address on LP. When I complained about Mel, the next instant I was banned and the post was removed proving I was a liar to begin with. Yet, Mel continues to post there as though nothing ever happened.

In this case it was continuous arguments over one of my friend's in the Patriot movement that Mel has always despised.

For years until the recent past, I create other pseudo-names on LP dogging the players there based upon the timing of their own commitments about posts. Most everyone knows it myself and I found a certain satirical streak in my own nature based up Sally's incredible lies and innuendo.

But, to tell you the truth, I want to donate to Sally's cause of creating the publick buoyancy of LP again. I just don't want to donate a thousand or so dollars when she knows it is me. I want palo to go home to roost in her chicken cage like most other refugees from LP.

Although I thank you for the fine offer, I just find a hard dick can't wrap around my body; it tends to stand straight out awaiting a real loving body to enjoy. But, quizzically, are you saying you perform such magical and fantastical deeds? Where are you from, some stable?

Yes,but you aren't on LP here. You are on 4um. This means you can debate with people from LP with no fear of getting banned, yet you are calling for them (including me) to go away and not post here.

I got banned when Mel published my home address on LP.

I didn't see that happen, but I do remember reading what others wrote about it,and I don't blame you for getting steamed.

Yet, Mel continues to post there as though nothing ever happened.

Well, you got me there. I honestly didn't know she was still posting there.

I found a certain satirical streak in my own nature based up Sally's incredible lies and innuendo.

"Sally"? Who's that?

But, to tell you the truth, I want to donate to Sally's cause of creating the publick buoyancy of LP again. I just don't want to donate a thousand or so dollars when she knows it is me.

OK,I guess Sally is Goldi, but why in the world would you want to donate 1000 bucks to anybody's web site?

I want palo to go home to roost in her chicken cage like most other refugees from LP.

You really can't see what this looks like, can you? Not even with all your talk of open and free discussions?

I was banned from 4um for years; I was the first to be banned here. I only recently came back just before the demise of LP (hint: there is a reason). Ask christine as she knows me to be very passionate on political issues and I admit I can go over the top but I have tempored my passion with a bit of skill so that you might understand the grit.

And you know the same. I am very aggressive but intend no harm.

Well, as for palo I have BOZO. I am too lazy to click for her other than my earlier suggestion just up the thread to abraxss. It is my tribute to palo and perhaps her new spell-binding book that she has to pay for publishment.

Are you going to buy a copy?

this is true. i was very patient with you for a long time, but that night you were really rude to me and vulgar. you've been very nice this time around.

btw, you weren't the first to be banned here.

What? Are you saying my honour has been stripped away? Even unamused banned me first, I love having that everlasting spot in historical considerations. Yet, now I feel dismayed.

I think I need Dr. Kevorkian to help with my new ailment losing title right here on 4um.

I am going, going .... gone. Please let farmfriend know all she ever had to do was click on my nick to figure out my bearing (and get a cheap pic from one of my friends).

Tomorrow, no more Michael Jackson in the headlines. Nope, tomorrow, it's buckeroo a cheap Internet chit-chat forum poster; yeah my death is going to carried everywhere even in Tel-Aviv because I flipped Veronica off a few times.

But don't worry about me. Nope. Forget this guy, buckeroo. I was just a stinking poster that lost position as being NUMBER 0ne on 4um.

I get it ALL now.

I love sarcasm.

"If, from the more wretched parts of the old world, we look at those which are in an advanced stage of improvement, we still find the greedy hand of government thrusting itself into every corner and crevice of industry, and grasping the spoil of the multitude. Invention is continually exercised, to furnish new pretenses for revenues and taxation. It watches prosperity as its prey and permits none to escape without tribute." --Thomas Paine, Rights of Man, 1791

I can understand why you may not find palo's style of posting appealing, but why do you feel the need to pick on her? She goes out of her way to be kind to other people. Goodness knows I often disagree with her viewpoints, but I certainly don't go out of my way to try to make her look foolish. I just don't get it. If you disagree with someone, then go ahead and say that you disagree and why. That's a good thing, and what this forum is all about. But to attack that person, mock their posting style, and try to make them look foolish is not only useless and counterproductive, it also makes you look mean and petty.

Hi EJ
I am so happy to see you
it has been long time since we posted together
I have missed you
Love, Palo

ps buckeroo can say anything about me he wants
we each enjoy posting on forums for our own reasons, if that is what pleases him, I am fine with it...

pps I wrote a novel and am publishing it myself
this afternoon I called the manager of Barnes and Nobel (it is a block from me)
and said "I do not have price barcode on it, could you still sell it to someone if they asked you to order it?"
he said I would have to put sticker with price on it
I said "my husband started to read it last evening and said my writing is peculiar"
He said "I love peculiar writing! I want to read it"
so I told him my husband says the book is interesting, and I will bring him over a free copy when it is published
he was very happy, he said "booksellers love free books"

lol it is an adventure publishing a book
I found a place on internet (CreateSpace) which will do it for free, if you do all the work yourself
so if you know anyone who has written a book, please let them know
it is Godsend to writers....

Love and kisses, Palo

Because she doesn't know what she is talking about. She is akin to a magnifying glass examining her own navel and picking out a hairy lint ball.
