(Palo) We are lucky for the hospitality of 4um, their owner, Christine, and their kind posters
I am not on email with Goldi, but another poster is and was kind enough to forward me Goldi's email
so I would know what was going on and could share it with others
It looks like we will be on 4um for a while so I want to express my gratitude to 4um for their hospitality to us
Love, Palo

Here is the email from Goldi which was forwarded on to me

We have assessed the damage and will be replacing most of the parts that run the server. The heat damaged pretty much everything.

The software may also be corrupted, and we will have to go back to our last good copy of a backup.

We may lose some of the database, so when we come back up we may lose the past few weeks of posts.

My best guess is 7 to 10 days downtime (max)

Houston Street (pronounced "HOW-stin") is named for William Houstoun, who was a Delegate to the Continental Congress for the State of Georgia from 1784 through 1786 and to the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787.

Very good and thank you!

Then you haven't tasted Santa Maria style. No messy sauces or garish rubs allowed.

I have relatives in California that keep trying to get me to mail them NC Bar B Que.

The point about Ron Paul was not to fill your own taste-buds about your own salivating lips chomping on a free BBQ.

You missed the point of getting together to achieve a political idea, altogether. God, you are fucking dense. Go back and look at the stars.

Buck,YOU are the one missing the whole point. This type of event is about BOTH. It's about people with similar political viewpoints or even open minds getting together to socialize while meeting with politicians who are looking for donations and votes.

There is no such thing as a political rally in this area that doesn't include a pig pickin' or a fish fry.

You must not be from the south or you would know this.

Unless of course your whole reason to post that was purely to attack Palo.

There is a shack on the way to Nags Head (just into Carolina, from Va Beach), that has IMHO the best BBQ ever..

The best I ever had was the western NC style, but you have to go west of Rocky Mount to find it.

Do you ever read her shit? It is always silly.

It's no sillier than getting 72 virgins in heaven,or the resurrection of the faithful promised in the bible by the guy who humped Joseph's wife and left her a virgin.

If anything it is less silly.

I am someone who has learned a great deal from my fellow posters

Palo, this is why you are a breath of fresh air. The problem on ALL of these political web sites is that everybody there already knows everything and they have nothing to learn. If you don't believe it,just ask them.

And I have to admit that I am as guilty of that as anybody at times.

LP is a nice site and all, but this one seems much more user friendly and much less....1999-ish. Editing your posts, how quaint a notion! I suspect I'll be sticking around here after LP comes back up, though I won't abandon LP to its fate just yet.

Hi SOL
every cloud has a silver lining
it is hospitable of 4um to take us in, and for their posters to be so gracious to us
I have read many of your posts on LP, they are intelligent, interesting, perceptive
and you are definitely in sync with the liberty-loving posters on 4um
(this forum could have been designed with you in mind)
I think you would make a nice addition here

LP still works for me
I am such a nut, it is best for me to be on an all-viewpoints forum
plus I like learning how others see things
I had no idea what the culture wars were
until the David Letterman/Sarah Palin spat broke out

for me David Letterman is just an entertainer who made a bad joke
I was stunned to discover how many on LP see him as the enemy

Love, Palo

(Palo) War, you work on Wall Street, do you think this is true?
(that John Hancock had that 99 year lease on all those buildings on lower Broadway, and paid such tiny money)

(War) Yes I do.

That is interesting you think it is true
hahaha NYC must have gone crazy
if he got those leases in 1825 -- I am just guessing
and the rent was so tiny
then the City had to wait till 1924 before the lease was up
and they could charge real money
I saw those buildings they are very valuable and in prime location
LOL John Hancock had talent for getting a good deal :)
Love and kisses, Palo

I have relatives in California that keep trying to get me to mail them NC Bar B Que.

They evidently have not tried the SantaMaria, or maybe they are just catsup lovers lol

But I think there are many good BBQ styles, most reflect the taste of the foods grown in that particular area. The best BBQ sauce I ever tasted was made by a now deceased neighbor from a recipe she obtained in Italy. Not sweet either. I wish I could get ahold of that recipe, I would be rich.

Huh? Where do you get that from? I have never been handed a barb b que with ketchup or anything else on it.

The best BBQ sauce I ever tasted

What does the sauce have to do with it? Everybody adds garnish to suit their own tastes, but we were talking about the taste of the actual barb b que itself, not sauces.

How do you get away from the sauce when in many cases it is laddled and mopped on the meat from the time it put in the smoker and presented as authentic BBQ?? I prefer BBQ without anything but salt and pepper, but that Italian recipe as either a marinade or a garnish was devine.

Beats me because I have never seen it. The only thing I have ever seen added was vinegar, and I love vinegar. Which is why I like the western NC over the eastern NC version.

The cole slaw, ketchup, and other garnishes were always added by the customer.

O my sweet darling
my dad was ultra leftist (and dogmatic)
I was raised that way
when I was in college CCNY, I was in groups that were so far left
we saw liberals as the enemy
(we called them cop-outs, and accused them of co-opting us)

when I married at 25 my husband succeeded in turning me into a liberal
"You were a hard nut to crack" he said afterwards

but when I moved to Tucson, I had no friends here at first
my husband was going to art school
I was New Yorker who had not learned how to drive
I was trapped in house during long endless afternoons

I began to watch the news for first time
and I made the big decision to put the truth ahead of my ideology
so a whole new world came into place

yes when I joined forums at Y2K, all my ideas were still liberal
I didn't know any others but I was open minded

O Pete it was so interesting for me learning all the other positions on things
but what affected me the most
was the passion for liberty
I had always been an idealist (since I was in diapers)
my dad was idealist too, altho it was civil rights, stop the bomb, and help the poor
the one area I knew nothing about was individual liberty
this is what I learned from my fellow posters on forums
I owe everything to them, I went from being a socialist to a libertarian because of them
I now put individual liberty above every other value

isn't that interesting Pete, I just realized it now
it was the posters on forums who introduced me to new values
it's a great gift to me
because I believe they are true and infinitely valuable
all my love to you Pete
and thank you for your loving post to me
Hugs add kisses, Palo

LOL Goldman Sachs now owns our government lock stock and barrel
every act they take now is to serve Goldman Sachs
I am assuming Goldman Sachs just owns the Dem Party, not the GOP
I will vote to put in GOP Congress in 2010
hoping they will stand up to the Goldman Sachs owned White House
The Republicans in Congress were great during Impeachment
esp. in the House, I know they were weak in the Senate
but after Bush took Office, the Pubbies shrank back to being mice again
they let the Dems in Congress bully them totally
and didn't demonstrate any of the principle and courage they had demonstrated during Impeachment

so what are the chances if we put them in charge of Congress in 2010
they will stand up to the Goldman Sachs owned Obama admin ?
is it 50-50 or less?
OK I'll give my guess, 10% chance they will come thru for the people
but here's hoping for a miracle :)
Love, Palo

LOL I am still waitng for proof copy of my novel to arrive
it took me 3 whole months to do all the work for formatting it for paperback book
my friend Helen did the cover
they had told me it costs them $12.50 for 302 pages and binding
so I put down price as $1.50 over (I made it $13.95) -- we split the royalty of the $1.50 over the cost of book
but I just discovered if I order their ProPlan for $40
I can bring down price of book to $8.95!!
that would be great
people could afford it
even with Amazon shippng price it would not be that high

but to change the price to $8.95 I have to figure out how to do it at Bowker, that is where you order the ISBN number
plus at the place which is publishing it
Wish me luck at figuring out how to change it at both places
Also I have to figure out what a barcode is and how to order that
LOL publishing your own book is not so easy
But a godsend, if you are willing to do all the work yourself, it is free
(except for ISBN number which costs a lot)
