(Palo) We are lucky for the hospitality of 4um, their owner, Christine, and their kind posters Here is the email from Goldi which was forwarded on to me We have assessed the damage and will be replacing most of the parts that run the server. The heat damaged pretty much everything. The software may also be corrupted, and we will have to go back to our last good copy of a backup. We may lose some of the database, so when we come back up we may lose the past few weeks of posts. My best guess is 7 to 10 days downtime (max) Goldi
I am not on email with Goldi, but another poster is and was kind enough to forward me Goldi's email
so I would know what was going on and could share it with others
It looks like we will be on 4um for a while so I want to express my gratitude to 4um for their hospitality to us

It had to come with a big kosher dill (very crisp please), a side of cold slaw and if you were lucky, a celery tonic. Now that was NYC!
Katz's was about 5 blocks from where I lived in East Village Katz's has good knishes if you don't want a sandwich I don't know how to describe what a knish is, I leave it up to Jethro Love, Palo

I'm there dude! We had two great ones at one time "Rose's" (I have her cook book), and Goldberg's. I am sure there were others as Portland has a robust Jewish Community. (Sen. Ron Wyden anyone? - Take him - pleasssssse. Although even his wife couldn't stand him.) We now have Kornblatt's which is pretty decent, but not as good as Rose's or Goldberg's in their prime. Rose, originally she had a restaurant in NYC but moved out here where her kids had moved to, retired (now R.I.P.), and Golberg's made a couple of bad decisions and went T.U.. I was going to make real Half-sour dills this year but my timing was off - the pickles were ready before I had the gear to do it right.

A knish is a thick potato pancake fried on the outside and softer on the inside. We'd slice them in half and put mustard in the middle. Ummmmm....
We've already had our salmon stuffed crab entre, but all this 'food talk' is making me hungry! Stoppit, please.

About the only thing that we have here is guys with their dead pig products (Hot Dogs), in a bun, and the customer gets to select the condiments to mask the taste. For a buck, and however much you want to tip out, how wrong can you go? It's garbage, but once a month? What does it matter?

I never had them at all until I married. My husband's family served them on Chanukah. I bought one of those salad shooters to grate the potatoes so I could make them. Power grating is the only way to go. I also use it for my carrot cake. OI, you would love my carrot cake!

I was on First Avenue and 5th Street
Katz's is on Houston Street (which is same as 1st Street)
and one block East of First Avenue (Avenue A)
blocks in Manhattan are tiny -- so it was 5 minute walk
no one has car in Manhattan
I notice the kosher deli around corner from me in Tucson has knishes
so I bet Austin has them too
he has genius for food

but it is square
my high school boyfriend's mother told me her husband
when they were both high school age (Seward Park High School on Lower East Side)
but by the time I lived on Lower east Side, you had to go to Katz's for knish
I never saw a knish hotcart
