saw it on msncb, this dude in ohio is running his car on used frier grease, and, they said....ALL HE DID WAS BUY AN $840 CONVERSION KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he is getting the oil FOR FREE bc the restaurants have to pay to have it hauled off.

I am really thinking about this...this is going to be a fucking huge grassroots thing...spread the word to your friends and email this all around...demand alone will put the oil companies into irrelevance.

Mr.Benz' first Mercedes diesel was designed to run on peanut oil - he envisioned a day when people could grow and process their own fuel.

Mr.Rockefeller had other ideas on who should provide the fuel, however.

Not to mention what the government's reaction to people running their vehicles on untaxed fuels will be.

England already has police who sniff tailpipes to determine who does this. The penalties are severe.

Dear God.

Whoever wrote that recent article about his dream of the people of the world spontaneously rising up and throwing off all governments, got it right.

Yes, but it's pretty unlikely to happen. A few months ago I read an article that about 55% of the people make their primary living off of some kind of government paycheck. People won't bite the hand that feeds them.

50%+ seems about rigt when you consider all the politicians, welfare and SS recipients, police, fire, military, garbagemen, street sweepers, "defence" workers, etc., etc., etc.

I know very few professional people who aren't receiving at least a portion of their pay from government sources. Even a portion my wife's job involves jockeying military and government equipment around the globe.

With oil climbing in price, this sort of thing is going to be a real problem for the oil companies. They have no experience with competition.

I've heard stories about the oil companies and their shenanigans my whole life. I guess they were all true.

I doubt that they're too worried, if they were, they'd just buy up all the waste oil. They could certainly do that a lot cheaper than the $1.50/gal than they're paying for crude and reprocess it. Besides, the average restaurant would only be able to service 1 or 2 cars a day, at most, where gas stations service hundreds.

The real problem would be lawyers concerned about "liability", or the government claiming stolen tax revenue. It'd be nice to utilize waste oils, but it will probably only be done on a very small scale by people willing to put up with the hassles of foraging for fuel.

Another good supply of energy would be to utilize the discarded motor oils for heating purposes, but the costs and logistics are too much for most people to overcome, but there's no reason why Auto Zone couldn't heat their buildings with the waste oil people bring in. In the long run you'd think it'd save them a lot of money.

Waste oil heaters are readily available at places like NorthernTool.com, but are too pricey for most individuals.

Yeah and you wanna be careful where you buy that old cooking oil...

The AMA (American Mechanic's Association) has recently released the results of a long term study that indicates that cooking oil obtained at McDonalds can cause hardening of the fuel lines over prolonged periods of usage.

Bean oil is about 22 cents a pound right now, figure 12 lbs. to the gallon (maybe a little less), but that would still be $2.64/gal. before taxes.

So yeah, works good if you can get it for free, but otherwise not cost-effective yet.

Mass production of vegetable-oil-burning vehicles would jack the price way up, too.

Except we would not be reliant upon foreign oil. And, we might not be so eager to fight expensive wars invading oil-rich countries.

And we could live with that if we didm't have to send the Imperial Troops to all quarters of the globe to preserve our lifelines.

I am sure that all the attendant economic and technological problem will be addressed the way we have always addressed them: with ingeniuty and enterprise.

Yeah, we would, as I doubt we could grow enough to supply the country. We'd have to import bean oil from Argentina and China.
