Science Daily August 20, 2005 Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson plans to lead a demonstration to protest President Bush's appearance in the Utah capital Monday. Anderson told the Salt Lake Tribune he hoped the demonstration would be "the biggest ... this state has ever seen," to protest Bush's appearance before a gathering of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "This administration has been disastrous to the country," he said. "If people could organize and speak out in an effective manner from the reddest state in the country, that would garner a lot of attention." Mike Parkin, a local VFW official, objected to Anderson's plan. "It makes the mayor look very, very unpatriotic," said Parkin. "It makes him look despicable." Anderson said the demonstration itself would be patriotic. "Patriotism demands that people speak out when we see our government officials acting in such anti-democratic and deceitful ways to the people of our country," he said. I wonder if the local ABC affiliate, KTVX (the no Cindy Sheehan channel), will cover or even mention the protest.
Dr. Condoleezza Rice said that the “security of Israel is the key to security of the world.”
"It makes the mayor look very, very unpatriotic," said Parkin. "It makes him look despicable." Mike Parkin doesn't have a clue about what patriotism really means...or requires, for that matter.
